Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) is an Inter-University Centre created by the UGC with the responsibility of utilizing electronic media in education. CEC coordinates the management and production of programmes in the 17 Media Centres set up by the UGC in various Universities of India. These programmes are telecast through Vyas-24 hour higher education channel and can be received on DTH Platform of DD Plus. CEC is nodal body of UGC for implementation of E-content development Scheme on Higher Education. CEC organizes Educational Vidoe Competition every year to promote excellence in the field of Educational Television and e-content development.

CEC invites entries for the 21st Video Competition which is open to all Educational Institutions in India and for e-content category it will be open to foreign countries as well.

SNAP Test 2010 Application Process

All India Entrance Test for Symbiosis PG Programmes

Symbiosis National Aptitude Test 2010 -SNAP 2010 for selecting candidates to Symbiosis Postgraduate Programmes for the session commencing 2011

Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP 2010) Test is a common written test for the admission to all the Post-Graduate Institutes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). Written test is a mandatory for admission into any Post-Graduate programme offered by the constituent institute of Symbiosis International (Deemed University).

However, it is only the first step. In addition, a candidate has to undergo the selection process of the desired Institute to qualify for the admission to the Post-Graduate programme of that Institute. A student aspiring to do higher studies at Symbiosis International (Deemed University) needs to do the following:

Stage-1: SNAP Test 2010
• Register online at www.snaptest.org
• To upload a latest scanned photograph of own at the time of SNAP Online Registration.
• Follow the instructions for payment for Test fee of Rs. 1550/- on above website.
• Any Changes in the online application form may be made only up to the closing date of Registration i.e., Friday, 26 November 2010. No change is permitted after Friday, 26 November 2010, under any circumstances.
• All disputes between candidate and the Symbiosis Test Secretariat shall be subject to exclusive jurisdiction of Pune city and by Arbitrator only.
• From Monday, 7 December 2010, onwards till Sunday, 19 December 2010, download and print "Admit Card" from the website.[www.snaptest.org]
• Admit Card along with Photo Identity proof to be carried to the Test Centre at the time of test.
(Candidates should note that authenticated Admit Card is an important document without which the candidate will not be permitted to appear for further selection processes of the institutes. If Admit card is lost, no duplicate Admit Card will be issued. It should be preserved till admission process is over).
SNAP Score will remain valid for admission to all Post Graduate Programmes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) for the academic year of 2011-12.

Stage-2: Submission of Application fee to the desired constituent institute of Symbiosis International (Deemed University)
• Fee of Rs.1000/- as Institute Application fee to the chosen institutes as instructions given on institute website.
• To apply to an institute a candidate must register for the SNAP 2010.
• The SNAP website allows a facility for online payment for application fee for many of its constituent institutes along with online payment of SNAP fee. Complete the application procedure of the desired institute.
• Candidate can also apply from the institute website.
• Candidate can apply for more than one institute.

Stage-3: Further selection process of the chosen institute
• The details regarding GD/PI please refer the SNAP 2010 prospectus.

Payment of Fees through Demand Draft / Cash.
• The candidates paying through cash or DD, should ensure that,
1. Axis Bank Challan for cash payment, or
2. Demand Drafts and Payment Advice Form for Demand Draft payment. Get a demand draft for Rs. 1550/- from any Nationalize Bank in favor of,
"Symbiosis Test Secretariat". Payable at Pune. Should reach to Symbiosis Test Secretariat by December 1, 2010 Wednesday.

Registration for SNAP 2010:

Step 1. Register for SNAP Test at www.snaptest.org

The Candidate is required to upload a latest scanned photograph of own at the time of online registration. This will generate your SNAP ID. For different modes of payment different 'Payment Advice' formats are created. Choose a payment mode and print a 'Payment Advice' form online.

Step 2. Pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 1550/- according to the payment mode. The 4 choices are:-

PAYMENT THROUGH CASH:
* Pay cash only at an Axis Bank branch. After online SNAP 2010 registration print 'Axis Bank Challan' from SNAP website, this is in 3 parts. Pay Rs. 1550/- in cash at any Axis Bank branch in your city. Refer to the list of branches on the website. The bank will return two stamped parts of the 'Axis Bank Challan' to the candidate stating that it is the 'Student copy' as a receipt.
* Sign the stamped 'Symbiosis copy' of the 'Axis Bank Challan' is required to be sent to Symbiosis Test Secretariat at the following Address,

* The candidate may transfer SNAP test fee to Symbiosis Test Secretariat account using Net Banking option too.

Step 3.
Admit Card should be printed from the SNAP website. This will be operative from 07th December 2010 and will remain open till 19th December, 2010.
Ensure the following.
* Print the admit Card online.

* Bring the Admit card with the Photo Id Proof to the Test Centre. An acceptable photo identity is any one of *Passport * Driving license *College / Institute identity card, *Credit card with photograph,* Voter ID Card. At the time of the written test, it is mandatory to produce photo identity as described above. Symbiosis Authorized Person will verify and authenticate your Admit Card against the photo-id.

Please preserve this authenticated Admit Card for further GD/PI processes. [Please Note that no duplicate Admit Card will be issued in case it is lost by the candidate].

Important:
• SNAP Registration Fee is non-refundable. No claim for refund of the SNAP Registration fee will not be entertained on for any reason.
• At the time of filling online application form or while appearing for SNAP test, any attempt to impersonate or indulge in any other malpractice would automatically disqualify the candidate from admission processes to all post graduate programmes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) and may also lead to any legal action deemed fit.

JMET 2011 Joint Management Entrance Test for Admissions in Pg in Management in IITs

Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET ) is the first step in the process of admission to the TWO YEAR FULL TIME Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Management offered by the IITs. Currently IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee offer Programmes in Management.

JMET is only a qualifying examination. Candidates have to apply separately to the Institutes of their choice. They are also advised to look up the details provided in the online e-brochure about the programmes available in the participating Institutes. There is no limit to the number of programmes a candidate can apply to, so long as he or she meets the eligibility criteria.

The results of JMET provide a basis to each participating Institute to shortlist potential candidates for conducting its own selection process like, Group Discussion/Interview etc. However, calling the candidates for such later process of selection is the prerogative of the admitting Institute. JMET qualified candidates may contact the management departments/schools of the concerned institutes for additional information, if any. It may be noted that the GATE/JMET offices will not respond to queries on the admission procedure.

Candidates should note that the final selection would depend on their performance in each of the components of the selection process.

Candidates will be required to appear in a single paper of three hours duration. The examination will be held from 10:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs on Sunday, December 12, 2010. The question paper will be in english only.

Before applying for JMET 2011, candidates must assure themselves that they are eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in. The eligibility criteria for admission to the various management schools are different in various Institutes. For more details, the candidates are required to contact the Institutes to which they are interested in seeking admission.

JMET 2011 Application Form has to be submitted ONLINE only. The application fee is Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PD candidates and Rs. 750/- for all other candidates. ONLINE submission of application can be done by accessing the JMET 2011 website of any of the IITs or IISc

Commonwealth Scholarships in United Kingdom 2011

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for nominations from India for the award of Commonwealth Scholarships in United Kingdom tenable from October 2011 for higher studies/research/specialized training in the subjects mentioned below in the United Kingdom. Up to Sixty (60) nominations are to be sent to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for final selection to be made by them. Out of these not more than twenty five (25) are for doctoral studies (including via the spilt-site mode) reflecting operational quotas for awards.

Eligibility
The candidate should not be more than 40 years of age as on 15.09.2010 and fulfill the minimum qualifications as per Para (IV) below.

Value of Award

Each scholarship provides: -

(A) Student concessionary or other approved air fare to the United Kingdom by the most direct and economical route and return on expiry of the scholarship (the cost of journey made before receipt of award will not normally be reimbursed nor can fares be paid for a scholar’s dependents).

(B) Approved tuition and examination fees.

(C) A personal maintenance allowance payable monthly.

(D) A grant for books and apparatus in the first year of study and for a subsequent full year also; and a grant towards the expenses preparing a thesis of dissertation, where applicable;

(E) A grant for expenses of approved travel within the U.K.

(F) An initial clothing grant for most scholars on first arrival from tropical developing countries;

(G) Where a host institution has in advance declared and the Commission has accepted, the need for fieldwork outside the United Kingdom, a grant towards the cost of such fieldwork, which shall not normally exceed one economy and tourist class return fare to the fieldwork location. Scholars for whom fieldwork fares are provided to their home country shall not be entitled to a mid – term homeward fare;

(H) For married scholars selected by the Commission for awards exceeding 12 months, a marriage allowance per mensem is payable provided that the husband and wife are residing together at the same address in the United Kingdom. It is not paid when a husband or wife of the scholars is also in receipt of an award, or is in paid employment. For such married couples accompanied by their children, a child allowance is payable for the first, second and third child under the age of 16 provided they are residing with their parents. A scholar who is unaccompanied by spouse but accompanied by children for whom he/she is legally responsible, shall receive the equivalent of the spouse’s allowance for the first child, and child allowances for the second and third child, irrespective of the length of tenure of award.

Scholar’s emoluments are not subject to United Kingdom income tax, but holders and their spouses may be liable for the payment at least in part of any Council tax levied by the local authority where they live.

The Government of Mexico have offered 3 scholarships for Indian nationals for the year 2011 for studies at a Mexican University or any institution of higher education in Mexico. The scholarships would be available for studies in the following subject fields:

3. Information Technology
4. Electronics Engineering


If Spanish is not the applicant’s native language, proof of advanced knowledge of Spanish issued by a university or language learning center must be attached.


LEVEL OF STUDY: Post-graduate and Ph.D.

QUALIFICATION: Should have Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with having a minimum cumulative grade average of 8 on a scale of 0-10, in relevant subject for Post-graduate studies. The candidate should have Post-graduate Degree with having a minimum cumulative grade average of 8 on a scale of 0-10 in relevant subject for Ph.D.

Scholarships Benefits:

Transportation from Mexico City to the host institution when the scholarship starts, and back to Mexico City upon completion of the scholarship.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University-IGNOU has come up with new courses in rehabilitation psychology and urban governance to create skilled manpower and train professionals.

The new common medical entrance test would be applicable for a total number of 30,000 MBBS seats and over 11,000 MD seats in 138 government run medical colleges as well as 133 private medical institutes.

Earlier students wanting to take up courses in medicine had to appear in at least five to six entrance tests for various colleges and worry about problems like a clash of exam dates as well as travel to distant places for counselling for allotment of seats

Opportunity for Scientist of Indian Origin

Energy Biosciences Overseas Fellowships”, a re-entry scheme of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.

Objective-:

The scheme is aimed at bringing back scientists of Indian origin working outside the country in the fields of energy related biological sciences and other areas related to bioenergy, and who are desirous of pursuing R&D in an Indian institution.

Eligibility-:

The applicant should possess a Ph. D in relevant areas and/or an outstanding track record reflected in publications and other recognitions.
3. Only candidate of Indian origin working overseas are eligible to apply. Those who have already returned to India and are working in India are not eligible.

About the fellowship-:

Energy Biosciences Overseas Fellows can take up fellowship at any of the scientific institutes/ university in India and the application should be supported by the competent authority of the host Institute.

Selected awardees will receive a fellowship amount of Rs. 75,000/ pm (consolidated) and a contingency grant of Rs. 5,00,000 / year for purchase of consumables, minor equipment, international and domestic travel, engaging manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research project. However, the host institute/university where applicant proposes to work can consider giving additional benefits (e.g. HRA/housing, medical allowance, leave travel allowance and other benefits) as applicable to regular faculty.

In case an awardee finds a suitable permanent position during the tenure of the fellowship at any research institute/ university, he or she can take up the job. In that case, he/she will have to opt for either the fellowship or salary. However, she/he can continue to avail the contingency grant with prior approval of DBT.

Awardees are also eligible to apply for research grants to any of the funding agencies. However, the Co-PI has to be a permanent employee of the host institution.

Duration-:

The duration of the fellowship will be for a period of 5 years. In exceptional cases, the duration of the award may be extended by another 5 years.

These fellowships are designed for mid-level Indian environment professionals in public/private sector or non-governmental organizations for up to four months. The program will combine short-term practical training/internship with opportunities for networking with American counterpart organizations. Selected fellows will be placed at US environmental public/private or non-governmental organizations, academic institutions or research centers and environment related government agencies. Fellows will be expected to explore future linkages between Indian and American organizations with common agendas.

Key areas of the FNELP initiative would include, but not be limited to:

* Environmental Information/Systems Reporting: industry-government-NGO partnerships and exchange, environmental journalism and television, public participation in perceptions of the environment and environmental benchmarking.

* Environmental Education: syllabus and curriculum development, instructional media including computers and internet, public advocacy and community-based campaigning, environmental awareness, information and action, environmental documentation, website and database management.

Grant Benefits-:
The fellowships provide round-trip economy class air travel from India to the U.S., a monthly stipend, Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges per U.S. Government guidelines, modest settling in allowance and a professional allowance. No allowance or travel is provided for dependents and the stipend provided under the grant is not sufficient to support family members. Scholars with accompanying dependents must have adequate personal funds to support their stay in the U.S.

University of Pune, School of Energy Studies invites applications for M.Tech Energy Studies

Eligibility:
1. Valid GATE score card (If the student is qualified in GATE)

2. The sponsored candidates must submit the Letter of Sponsorship and No Objection Certificate from the Head / Authorized person of his parent organization at the time of interviews. It should be mentioned clearly in the letter that the fees for the course will be born by the sponsoring organization and the required full time leave will be sanctioned to the candidate.

3. The applicants should enclose the attested copies of the certificates and mark sheets of examinations (S.S.C. onwards) passed by them along with the application form. Candidates belonging to reservation categories will be required to submit a certificate from an authorised officer not below the rank of Magistrate / Tahasildar to the effect that the candidate belongs to the respective reserved category. In case the certificates / mark sheets are in a language other than English, Hindi or Marathi the English version of such documents duly attested should be enclosed. All candidates selected for admission must produce the necessary original certificates and documents for verification at the time of admission. Students who have passed their qualifying examinations from Universities outside India are required to follow the rules and procedures laid down by the International Students Centre of the University of Pune.

1. The selection of the student will be either through [A] or [B]. The students can opt for either [A] or [B] but not for both [A] and [B] simultaneously.

Two seats are reserved for the candidates sponsored by industries / academic institution involved in research, development, training, auditing or production in the areas relevant to Conventional and Non-conventional energy sources. The sponsored candidates need not appear for the entrance examinations. The admissions for sponsored candidates will be on the basis of personal interviews and their academic merits. The candidates admitted under sponsored category need to satisfy the following criteria:

a) The sponsored candidate should be permanent employee of industry or academic institute for at least two years.
