IGNOU M.Ed Distance Learning Admissions 2012

IGNOU announced admissions in Masters in Education (M.Ed.) programme through distance learning mode for January 2012 session. The sale of the prospectus has already started in all the regional centers and headquarters. The last date of submission of filled in forms is November 20, 2011.

The eligibility for admission to the programme is Bachelor’s in Education (B.Ed.) degree with at least 55 percent marks or equivalent grade on a five point scale from a recognised Indian or foreign university with two years teaching/ professional experience after completion of B.Ed. programme in a government recognised school/ NCTE recognised teacher education/ research institution.

DBT Rapid Grant For Young Investigator 2012

Department of Biotechnology India Rapid Grant For Young Investigator- RGYI 2012

Rapid Grant for Young Investigators fosters creative research in various fields of biotechnology (Medical, Agriculture, Animal Biotech, Environment and Industry etc) to enhance early career development of young investigators below 40 years of age. The programme aims to provide first grant to establish the lab and initiate research in the frontier areas of biotechnology.

Grant applications are invited for innovative research projects from PI/teams of young PI's with interdisciplinary multi-institutional collaboration;holding independent position (and within 10 years of receiving a PhD) and with potential for independent research.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a promising track record of early achievements appropriate to their research field and career stage, including significant publications (as main author) in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. They may also refer to monographs or demonstrate a record of invited presentations in well-established international conferences, granted patents, awards, prizes etc. Each application should include Post-Doctoral students as additional Co-PI's together with young faculty/scientists holding permanent positions.

Department of Biotechnology (DBT) invites proposals from Indian Biotechnology Companies under the Biotechnology Industry partnership programme (BIPP).

About the Programme :

BIPP is a Govt. Partnership Programme with industry for support on a cost sharing basis for development of novel and high risk futuristic technologies mainly for viability gsp funding and enhancing existing R&D capacities. BIPP has so far supported more than 60 projects focusing on affordable healthcare technologies, food security and energy related needs of the country and also in the area of scale up, biosimilars, vaccines, therapeutics etc. Major thrust of the programme is towards funding technologies which address a major national problem and / or involves high level of innovation. The proposals spanning across the spectrum of pre-proof-of concept to validation of established technologies are considered for support in the form of grant and/or loan.

Eligibility:
A single or consortia of Indian companies - Small, Medium or Large having DSIR recognized in-house R&D unit(s).

The Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU and Chinese Institute of Chennai and Shri Mahavira Jaina Vidyalaya Education Foundation, Gujarat to provide online virtual programmes in Chinese language.

Both the institutes have agreed to work with IGNOU in offering six and twelve months certificate and diploma respectively in Online Chinese language and culture. These programmes will be launched through online virtual class method and also face to face at both of these institutes under the supervision of SOFL, IGNOU.

One of the main objectives of this programme is to reach learners all over India through internet. Through this method, a virtual classroom will be created by which learners can interact with teachers and vice-versa.

This Programme also intends to expose students to the Chinese Business world by introducing a Programme on how to do business with China. After fag end of the Programme, students also will be connected to all business houses which are doing business with China so that there is a possibility for them to be absorbed subsequently in those corporate sectors. DBT-Research Associateship 2012 Biotechnology & Life Sciences

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the award of "DBT-Research Associateship" 2012 for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and applied biology.The Associateship is tenable in Research Institution/Universities including non-profit R & D Institutions within India.The Associateships are awarded under a program sponsored by the Department of' Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Eligibility-:
The applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Science, Engineering or M.D. or M.S. degree in any area of medicine with research interests in Biotechnology and Life Sciences and a good academic record.

The Associateship can be availed within 3 years of the award of Ph.D./M.D./M.S. degree; however, may be relaxable in case of women (by 2 years) and in-service candidates.

Those who have already submitted the Ph.D./M.D./M.S. thesis are also eligible to apply. The applicants should preferably be below the age of 40 years and 45 years in case of women candidates.

Persons already employed are also eligible to apply. However, their applications should be routed through their employers.

Details of the Award-:
The Research Associateship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 2 years.

In exceptional cases, depending upon the progress of the research, the Associateship may be extended upto 5 years.

Each fellow would be entitled to a stipend in the range of Rs.22,000-24,000 per month and a research contingency grant of Rs.50,000 per year, payable to the host Institution.

Candidates who are yet to be awarded the Ph.D./M.D./M.S. degree, if selected, will be paid Rs.18,000 per month till the award of the degree.

The associate would also be entitled to HRA and other benefits as per the DST guidelines applicable to Research Associateship.

The Associateships normally are not availed at the same Institution where candidates have earned their Ph.D./M.D./M.S. degree,if selected will be paid Rs 18000/- per month till the award of the degree.The associate would also be entitle to HRA and other benefits as per the DST guidelines applicable to Research Associateship.

Candidates who are already in regular employment can avail the Associateship during the period of his/her sabbatical/study leave,in a different institute/university

Mode of Selection-:
The candidates will be selected based on their C.V. and performance in the interview.

The interview will be held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in November 2011 and candidates called for interview will be paid II class railway (non-AC) /bus fare by the shortest route from their home town.

If the candidate accepts the Associateship, he/she must join the host Institution/University within a month's time.

Mode of Application-:
Candidates may submit their application on plain paper alongwith bio-data, list of publications (attach reprints of 2 important papers), copies of certificates (B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D./M.D./M.S.), One page synopsis of Ph.D./M.D./M.S. thesis, 2 letters of recommendation (academic).

The applicant is advised to propose his/her place of work, name of the supervisor, enclose one page synopsis of proposed research which must be compatible with the on-going research of the proposed supervisor, and his/her consent for availing the Associateship.

They should also enclose a declaration stating that if selected for the Associateship, he/she will complete the tenure of the Associateship.

However, they may be allowed to relinquish the Associateship only if accepting permanent employment in India. Those who had applied previously need not apply.

The United States and Indian Governments will convene a summit on higher education in Washington, DC on October 13, 2011, chaired by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Minister of Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal. The Summit will explore how government, universities, and business can collaborate to create innovative and sustained higher education partnerships between the United States and India. The two governments also announced an expanded U.S.-India Higher Education Dialogue as a forum for deepening linkages and cooperation. The dialogue will occur annually and will incorporate U.S. and Indian higher education officials and members of the private sector on a rotating basis.

DBT Tata Innovation Fellowship 2011

Tata Innovation Fellowship, a highly competitive scheme instituted by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India to recognize and reward scientists with outstanding track record in biological sciences and a deep commitment to find innovative solutions to major problems in health care, agriculture and other areas related to life sciences and biotechnology.

The scheme is aimed at rewarding interdisciplinary work where major emphasis is on innovation and translational research with a potential towards commercialization.

Eligibility :
i) The fellowship is open to Indian Nationals residing in India who are below the age of 55 years as on 21st November, 2011.
ii) The applicant should possess a Ph.D degree in Life Sciences, Agriculture, Veterinary Science or a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences, Engineering or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology / related areas. The applicant must have put in several years of work in the specific area.
iii) The candidate must have a regular position in a University/Institute/Organization and should be engaged in research and development. If he/she is availing any other fellowship, he/she will have to opt for only one of the fellowships.
iv) The applicant should have spent at least 5 years in India before applying for the fellowship.

Nature of Support :
i) The amount of the fellowship is Rs. 20,000/- per month in addition to regular salary from the host institute (Revision of fellowship to Rs. 25,000/- p.m. is under consideration). If an awardee is receiving salary from international organization, he will be entitled for research grant i.e. contingency only.

ii) In addition, each Fellow will receive a contingency grant of Rs. 5.00 lakh per annum for meeting the expenses on consumables, equipment, international and domestic travel, manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of ongoing research project under the fellowship.

iii) The Tata Innovation Fellows would be eligible for other regular research grant(s) through extramural and other research schemes of various S&T agencies of the Government of India.

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) invites nominations of scientists who are engaged in basic and applied research in Biosciences & Biotechnology including Biological, Agricultural, Medical, and Environmental Sciences and have made outstanding contributions in research with potential for application/ product and technology development, for ‘National Bioscience Awards for Career Development for the year 2011’.
The award is to recognize outstanding contributions of young scientists below 45 years of age in basic and applied research and to provide grant for research for their career development.

Nature of the Award:

Upto 10 awards per year will be given. Each award carries a cash prize of `. 1,00,000/- and a trophy alongwith a citation and a project research grant of `.9,00,000/- @ `.3,00,000/- per year for a period of three years for career development.

The Prospectus and Application form (i) can be obtained in person against a Bank Draft of Rs.1000/- for one course and Rs.1700/- for both courses ( Rs.800/- and Rs.1200/- respectively only for the SC/ ST/ PH/ CW/ OBC Category), drawn in favour of the Registrar, University of Delhi, from any nationalized Bank, payable at Delhi

(ii) Prospectus can also be downloaded from Website : www.commercedu.com and http://www.du.ac.in by paying the same fees as above or

(iii) by post from the Section Officer, Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 by adding Rs.100/- to the above mentioned fees according to the respective category fee along with one self-addressed envelope (28 cms X 22 cms) Write name, address, telephone and course(s) applied for at the back of Bank Draft. Also enclose one self addressed (size 10”X4") envelope with postage stamps of Rs.5/- affixed on envelope for delivery of Admit Card etc. along with the duly filled in application form.

(iv) Student can also apply online through http://docdse.admissionhelp.com and may make payment using credit / debit cards, net banking, cash deposit with Axis Bank and CBS branches of post office by adding a service fee of Rs.100 only.
