M.Tech, M.S.Ph.D programs IIIT-B 2008 admissions

Established in 1999, IIIT-B is a deemed university, jointly promoted by the Govt. of Karnataka and the IT industry. IIIT-B is located in the technology hub of India, with a modern campus at Electronics City, Bangalore. The Institute has close ties with the IT industry, and aims to be a nodal center for world-class research in different theoretical as well as applied research areas of IT. IIIT-B invites applications for admission to the M.Tech, M.S. by Research, and Ph.D programs starting in the year 2008.

M.Tech: The M.Tech degree is entended to provide education to students who wish to work in the IT industry as practioners. It is awarded upon successful completion of a 4-semester, broad-based academic program in IT going beyond, but incorporating essential elements of, traditional computer science. Apart from imparting technical knowledge, the program teaches managerial and other cognate skills that are essential for a successful career in today's competitive IT industry. All students enrolled in the M.Tech program are residential, full-time students.

Eligibility: A first class B.E/B.Tech/equivalent engineering degree is the minimum qualification for admission to the M.Tech. Students with M.Sc/M.C.A degrees are also eligible. Final year students expecting to graduate by August 2008 are also welcome to apply.

Entrance Test for Admission to MA in Economics
1.
Students will be admitted to the M.A. course through an entrance examination.
2.
The Entrance Test will also serve as change-of-faculty test provided the minimum requirements are fulfilled.
3.
There will be an examination application form fee (non-refundable) of Rs. 150/- (Rs. 50/- for students belonging to reserved categories), in the form of a DD payable to the Finance & Accounts Officer, University of Mumbai,payable at Mumbai to be posted to The Director, Department of Economics, University of Mumbai, Vidyanagari, Mumbai 400098, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope.

The dates for holding the Entrance Test and the broad scope of the examination will be widely advertised through national newspaper/s and on the University of Mumbai website www.mu.ac.in
5.
Seats will be reserved as per Government and University rules, which may be amended from time to time. A copy of the required relevant certificate must accompany all forms of students belonging to reserved categories.
6.
Students from outside the Mumbai University will be so admitted subject to their obtaining a provisional eligibility certificate from the Eligibility Section of the University for the M.A. [Economics] course.
7.
Students obtaining at least 45 per cent marks (or equivalent) in their graduate examination of a recognised Indian or foreign University will be eligible to apply for the Entrance Test. Students in the last year of their graduation can also do so; however, their final admission to the course would depend on their having obtained the required marks at the graduation examination.
8.
The requirement for minimum marks will be relaxed for students belonging to the SC/ST and other reserved categories as per government/university rules (40 per cent marks for students belonging to all reserved categories).
9.
Separate merit lists will be prepared for general and reserved category students as per relevant government rules. Though a category-wise merit list of all examinees will be computed, successive lists will be put up to fill in remaining vacancies.
10.
For the purpose of preparing the merit lists, the performance of the Mumbai University economics students (with at least four papers in economics of 100 marks during graduation) will be computed by giving 50% weightage to their graduation marks (overall aggregate marks of the final year exams) and 50% weightage to the marks obtained at the Entrance Test. The performance of all other students will be computed on the basis of 100% weightage to the Entrance Test marks.
11.
A maximum of 100 students will be admitted on the basis of the merit lists so prepared.
12.
Details of the Entrance Test will be made available on the website of the Department/University and will be further specified through recommended books. The weightage given to different course components of the examination will be as follows:
a.
Microeconomics/Macroeconomics 70%
b.
Quantitative methods 15%
c.
Indian economy 15%
The topics included in individual units and books on which the examination questions will be based are as follows:

Microeconomics: Demand Theory, Theory of Firm, Market Structures, and Theory of Distribution (Schaum Series: Theory & Problems of Microeconomics: Lipschutz).

Macroeconomics: National Income Accounting, Money & Banking including Inflation, Keynesian Models of National Income Determination (David Begg, Stanley Fischer and Rudiger Dornbusch. Second Edition: Part 4: On Macroeconomics, McGraw-Hill, 1987).

Quantitative Methods: Measures of central tendency & dispersion, correlation, simple differentiation including of u+v, uv, & u/v functional forms (Fundamental Methods of Mathematical Economics: Alpha C. Chiang; Schaum Series: Theory and Problems of Statistics. Lipschutz).

Indian Economy: B.A. level (Indian Economy: Its Development Experience, S.K. Misra and V.K. Puri; Indian Economy, Dutt and K. Sundaram).

Notification MH-CET 2008 Forms available from 20feb2008

Govt. of Maharashtra shall conduct a single Combined “Common Entrance Test” MHT-CET-2008 for all Health Sciences, Engineering and Pharmacy degree courses for the academic year 2008-2009. The Entrance Test will be held on Thursday, 8th May 2008. Govt. of Maharashtra has appointed Director, Medical Education and Research, Mumbai as “The Competent Authority for the MHT-CET-2008”. The merit list of the above said examination will be utilized for admission in:
1) Govt./Municipal Corp./ Govt. Aided Colleges of Health Sciences degree courses.
2) Govt. /Govt. Aided/University Managed Colleges/University Departments and Unaided Private Colleges (those colleges who have given consent to participate in MHT-CET-2008) of Engineering & Pharmacy degree courses
3) BVSc & AH degree course.
For selection process there will be separate Competent Authorities. For selection to Health Science degree courses, The Director, Medical Education and Research (DMER), Mumbai is the Competent Authority. For selection to Engineering and Pharmacy Degree Courses, The Director, Technical Education (DTE), Mumbai will be the Competent Authority. The Authority for selection to BVSc & AH degree course is The Registrar, Maharashtra Animal and Fisheries Science University, Nagpur.
The qualifying Examination for appearing at MHT-CET-2008 is HSC (12th Std.) or equivalent examination with the conditions for eligibility as defined in the respective brochure(s). Candidates who have not given their requirement of application form and information brochure so far may do so on or before 16/02/2008 to their college/school where they are studying 12th standard. Those candidates who have passed their qualifying examination i.e. 12th standard examination earlier i.e. in 2007 or before and desire to appear for the MHT-CET 2008 should also give their requirement on or before 16/02/2008 to their respective college/school (from where they have passed 12th std).A single Application form and three Brochures (Health Science, Engineering and Pharmacy) will be made available from 20/02/2008. The cost of the Application Form along with the three information brochures of MHT-CET-2008 and Examination fee is Rs.900/- for open category and all Outside Maharashtra candidates and Rs.700/- for reserve category candidates (belonging to Maharashtra State Only). This amount is not refundable.
All candidates who for any reason whatsoever are not able to receive Application Forms through the School/ Jr. College should collect it from office of Divisional Authority of his/her area (by giving a Demand draft as detailed above), but he/she has to submit it through his/her School/Junior College (college where he/she studied 12th Std)

1. Outside Maharashtra State (OMS) candidates are permitted to appear for the MHT-CET 2008 in order to become eligible for admission to first year of:
• Four year full time Degree courses in Engineering/Technology in *Unaided Private Institutes who have given consent to participate in MHT-CET 2008.
• Four year full time Degree course in Pharmacy in Unaided Private Institutes who have given consent to participate in MHT-CET 2008.
Note:
i) *Eligible OMS candidates who are appearing for MHT-CET-2008 and seeking admission to Engineering Degree courses shall be considered eligible for admission against the institute level seats and the seats remaining vacant after completion of CAP, only in Unaided Private Colleges.
ii) Eligible OMS candidates who are appearing for MHT-CET-2008 and seeking admission to Pharmacy Degree course shall be considered eligible for admission during the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) rounds I & II. Such candidates may also apply for admission against the institute level seats and the seats remaining vacant after completion of CAP in Unaided Private Colleges.
2. Following type of candidates are exempted from appearing for MHT-CET-2008 examination for admission to Engineering/Technology courses:

􀂃 G.O.I. Nominees and Jammu & Kashmir Migrant Candidates are exempted from appearing for the MHT-CET-2008 conducted by the Competent Authority of Govt. of Maharashtra, subject to the approval from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi, for filling of the seats over & above the sanctioned intake. However, if the approval is not received before 30/6/2008, these candidates will be treated at par with OMS candidates and hence they are advised to appear for MHT-CET-2008.
4. Candidates who are eligible to apply against the provision of Jammu & Kashmir Migrant candidate as well as the Maharashtra State candidate are entitled to claim only one type of seat i.e. either Maharashtra State seat or J & K Migrant seat for admission to Engineering/ Technology/Pharmacy Degree Courses. Further if the candidate opts for Maharashtra State candidature then he/she has to appear for the MHT-CET 2008.
5. Separate notifications for the following types of candidates regarding the schedule of Admission process will be issued by the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra State, Mumbai, in the month of May/June 2008.
