IGNOU New Online Programme in Human Rights

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to develop a new online Advance Programme on Human Rights for the Police Personnel and update/ revise the existing course contents of Basic Programme on Human Rights and Training of Trainers Programme on Human Rights for the police personnel.


The new awareness generation programme will be developed jointly by NHRC and IGNOU for judiciary, police personnel, public servants, parliamentarians, universities, colleges and common people.

Commenting upon how the learners will be able to study the course, Prof. Ravindra Kumar, VC, IGNOU, said that, “IGNOU’s Inter University Consortium (IUC) platform and SWAYAM portal will be used for disseminating information on Human Rights to the proposed target groups. IGNOU’s regional centers will be used as training centers for spreading human rights education. The material developed will be in the form of e-books and printed books.”

The six units of the existing online programme on Human Rights for the Police Personnel shall be updated along with the e-content on the IGNOU portal. The units will be more interactive and multimedia tools will be used to make it simple and interesting for the constables to sub-Inspector level which constitutes 80 per cent of the Police Force.

Training material will be developed for conducting training programmes for the Trainers Training for another existing programme on Human Rights for the Police Personnel.

Indian Institute of Human Rights (IIHR), New Delhi, invites applications for admission to Distance Learning Postgraduate Programme (PGP) in Human Rights commencing in 2013.

The two years Post Graduate Programme in Human Rights being conducted through correspondence has been designed for meeting the growing needs of experts in the field of human rights, civil liberties, international humanitarian issues, refugee rights and laws, disaster and emergency relief, apartheid and racial discrimination, drug abuse, judicial activism and global and regional perspectives of human rights.

Eligibility : Graduation (Arts / Science / Commerce / Engineering / Agriculture / Medicine / Law / Pharmacy).


To Aapply: The application form can be obtained from the institute office by paying Rs. 50/- in cash.

Application form can also be obtained through DD of Rs 50/- drawn in favor of "Indian Institute of Human Rights", should be payable at New Delhi along with complete postal address of the applicant.

Last date for the submission of application form is 1st Nov 2013.

PGCC in Human Rights at Government Law College

Hurt Foundation in association with Government Law College, Mumbai three months Post Graduate Certificate Course in Human Rights. The course is conducted at Government Law College, Mumbai.

The course syllabus has been divided into 8 modules, to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of Human Rights. The Course is taught on the basis of a series of Weekly two – hour sessions. The course commencing from August 2010 . The course methodology is so structured as to enhance research and writing skills, along with advocacy and practice of Human Rights.
