Huawei Maitree Scholarship 2013

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the award of Huawei Maitree Scholarship tenable for the academic year 2013,for aspiring higher studies in credible and reputed institutions in China preferably in the engineering areas of science and technology,culture and social studies and development related programmes

The duration of scholarship will be for one academic year,renewable for every new academic session till the completion of the course. For renewal of scholarship, the recipient will have to satisfy the criteria of 80% marks in the previous academic year.

The scholarship amount is $5000 USD per student

Eligibility: The student should be enrolled as a full-time student in the degree programme for which he/she has been provided scholarship. As a proof, the student should provide a certificate from the college (original copy) saying that he/she is enrolled as a full-time student and bears a good moral character.


The last date for submitting the documents and applying for the scholarship is 26th July, 2013

Foreign Universities for Higher Education in India

The government has proposed a new legislation to allow foreign universities open colleges in India.
The legislation will enable leading foreign universities like Harvard, Yale and other international universities to set up their colleges in India to provide quality education to Indian students, while remaining in the home country.

RNCOS, a leading marketing agency has recently released its research report on the Indian education sector - "Education Services Market in India (2007)”.

As per the report, the growth of private higher education institutions will outshine the growth of government and private aided universities and colleges in future.

The report says that during 2000-01 to 2005-06, the enrollment figures in private aided institutes increased by around 12.15% and that in government institutes marked a rise of nearly 11.8%. On the other hand, private unaided institutes registered a healthy growth of over 76% during the same period. The report identifies government’s inability in bearing the expenditure of education sector as the reason for high enrollment in private unaided institutes. So this has given an opportunity to the private sector to take initiative to fill the gap by expanding their reach into the education sector.

Despite being a lucrative education market, the study also highlights the challenges faced by foreign universities in India. They might face hurdles regarding the student’s perception that the class and market value of a degree attained from a foreign country is usually better than the one obtained at the Indian campuses.
