ICSSR Amartya Sen Award 2013 for Distinguished Social Scientists

Indian Council OF Social Science Research-ICSSR has instituted the Amartya Sen Award for Distinguished Social Scientists. The Award comprises a citation, a plaque and a cash award of Rs. 10 lakh. Each year up to ten awards will be given to the scholars who have made outstanding contributions to social science research.

Eligibility: Any citizen of India/Overseas citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO) below the age of 55 years as on 31 December 2012, engaged in research and who has made outstanding contribution–theoretical and/or empirical--towards the advancement of knowledge in any field of social sciences, is eligible for the award.

Nominations for the Award in a prescribed format should reach to the Member-Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research, Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, New Delhi-110067, latest by 5th March 2013.

INSA Medal for Young Scientists 2013

Indian National Science Academy-INSA

INSA Medal for Young Scientists with the aim of recognizing young scientists of extraordinary promise and creativity who have made notable research contributions in Science and Technology. This award, considered to be the highest recognition of promise, creativity and excellence in a young scientist, is made annually to those distinguished for these attributes as evidenced by their research work carried out in India. Only those born on or after January 1, 1978 are eligible for consideration in the year 2013.

The awardee shall receive a certificate‚ a bronze medal, cash award of Rs. 25,000/- and seed amount to initiate research project and further scope for overseas training for advancement of career.

A candidate may be proposed by a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy or by earlier recipients of this award. Scientific societies of national standing, university faculty, post-graduate department or research institutions may also make nominations of eligible candidates.

Nomination proforma can be downloaded from website www.insaindia.org. Two hard copies and a soft copy (in MS-Word only) of the nomination, along with all supporting documents, must reach the Academy latest by October 31, 2012.

Applicants should have publications in well recognized peer reviewed journals of repute and contributed to knowledge generation that has created significant impact in the field of translational possibilities.

Regional Centre for Biotechnology-RCB Young Investigator Award 2011

RCB-Young Investigator Awards are designed to identify and nurture outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and desirous of pursuing research in frontier areas of biotechnology related (but not limited) to structural, systems and synthetic biology, nano science & technology, cellular and molecular biology, disease biology, and data-intensive discovery research, under the mentorship of senior faculty at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology. Young scientists (below the age of 35) having PhD degree (or likely to complete in next 3 months) in any discipline of natural sciences are eligible to apply.

The award shall be initially for the duration of three years, subject to annual review. It may be further extended for additional two years, based on a review by a committee of experts. The award carries a consolidated stipend of Rs. 40,000/-per month. The awardee shall not be entitled to draw any other fellowship or salary.

Interested candidates may submit their application by filling the application form available on the website (www.rcb.res.in) to email id: registrar@rcb.res.in. Copy of the application should be sent by registered post to The Registrar, Regional Centre for Biotechnology, 180 Udyog Vihar Phase 1, Gurgaon-122016. International Fulbright Science and Technology Award 2011

The United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) invites applications from interested Indian applicants for the International Fulbright Science and Technology Award for outstanding foreign students. This award is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and is designed to be the most prestigious international scholarship in science and technology. The International Fulbright Science and Technology Award reaffirms America's pre-eminence and competitiveness in the fields of science, technology, and engineering, as the U.S. remains the most attractive destination for serious scientific and technological research and study.

The International Fulbright Science and Technology Award is for PhD study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology, or engineering beginning August/September 2011. The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State will fund grants for up to three years under this program. After three years, U.S. universities will cover the remaining expenses toward completion of a PhD. Academic placement (university admission and other formalities) of the selected scholars will be handled by the Institute of International Education (IIE). Fellows will travel to the U.S. on J-1 visas and will be subject to J-visa regulations.

In the fifth year of this program, approximately 45 awards will be offered worldwide for candidates who demonstrate unique aptitude and innovation in scientific fields. Two principal nominees from India will compete with candidates from all over the world for this fellowship. Application deadline: May 1, 2010.

This Scheme is instituted by the Lady Tata Memorial Trust (LTMT) to recognize and reward young Indian scientists with outstanding track record in biological sciences, a deep commitment to find innovative solutions to major problems related to human diseases and potential for high quality research. Applicants should have publications in well recognized peer reviewed journals of repute and contributed to knowledge generation that has created significant impact in the field of translational possibilities. The applicant should also highlight prestigious award(s) and other recognitions such as Award(s) of major academies / societies.

Application along with separate summary sheets (9 copies), duly forwarded by the host institute as per pro forma (attached), may be sent to :

Eligibility-:

The Award is open to Indian Nationals, residing in India, who are below the age of 40 years.

The applicant should possess a Ph.D. degree in any Biological Science or a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences, or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology related areas. The applicant must have at least 4 years’ professional experience in the specific area after obtaining the above degree.

The candidate must have a regular position in a University / Organization / Institute and should be engaged in research and development. Applicants currently working abroad may apply provided that they have confirmed placement in an Institute in India. The awardee will be eligible for regular research grants through extramural and other research schemes of various S & T agencies of the Government of India.

Last date of receiving the duly filled application is 1st February 2010.
