Admission to the Ph.D programme for July 2011 session in the following Departments:

Eligibility

In all the disciplines, the upper age limit is 28 years (BTech / BE / MSc / MA / MCA / MBA) and 32 years (MTech / ME / MS / MPhil) and is applicable only for candidates applying in Regular and Full time category (Institute Fellows). Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC / ST applicants.

PhD in Engineering:

Candidates having MTech / ME degree in a Engineering/Technology, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology (from any Institute other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks OR Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR Master’s degree in Science from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70%.

PhD in Science:

Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR Master’s degree in Science/Engineering/Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering/Technology (from any Institute other than IITs / IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks.

PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences:

Master’s degree in Arts / Commerce / Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent OR Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology /Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks OR Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology (from any Institute other than IITs / IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 80% marks.

Application form can also be obtained from the Assistant Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna – 800 013, Bihar, on or before 25-04-2011 by ordinary post or in person. To receive application forms by post, send a request along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (24cm x 15cm size). Request for form must be sent in an envelope super scribed with ‘Request for Ph.D. Application form’.

Filled in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials (both sides) and a Demand Draft for Rs.200/- for General/ OBC candidates and Rs.100/- for SC/ST/PD candidates drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Patna in favour of IIT Patna should be sent to the Assistant Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna – 800 013, Bihar, to reach on or before 29th April 2011. The words ‘Application for PhD admission in the Department of _________’ should be written on the top of the envelope for sending the completed form. Candidates applying for more than one department should submit a separate application for each department.

MBA Admissions 2011 based on CAT 2010 Score

Eligibility - Bachelor's Degree (10+2+3) with minimum 55% marks in Honours subject and for others 55% average in all subjects (45% marks for SC/ST candidates). Those graduating in 2011 may apply. They will be required to submit mark sheet (with minimum eligibility) by 31st Oct, 2011. Candidates who have completed eligibility qualifications through distance learning may apply if they have acquired the same as working professionals.

Applicants should have minimum 40 Verbal Percentile (25 for SC/ST) and total percentile minimum 40 (25 for SC/ST) in CAT 2010.

Selection Process is based on total percentile in CAT 2010 of eligible candidates. Notifications will be placed on the Institute website. No separate instructions will be sent to applicants.
