JAM 2016 Application Process


JAM 2016 Application Process

Joint Admission Test (JAM) 2016, is scheduled to be conducted on February 7, 2016 for admissions to integrated PhD Degree Programmes at IISc Bangalore and MSc (two years), Joint MSc-PhD, MSc-PhD Dual Degree, MSc MTech, and other Post-Bachelor Degree Programmes at IITs. The registrations for the same will commence from September 2 onwards.

The exam will be conducted by IIT Madras and approximately 1629 seats are vacant at various IITs and IIScs. The online test will be held at various centres in the country and the results will be announced on March 23, 2016.


Educational qualification:

The candidates who are interested in registering for the exam, should have completed graduation with atleast 55 percent marks (50 percent for SC/ST/OBC category candidates).

The information brochure and all other information related to JAM 2016 will be updated time to time on the JAM 2016 website: http://jam.iitm.ac.in/jam2016. A candidate can register and apply ONLINE only for JAM 2016 from September 02, 2015 to October 14, 2015. The application fee can be paid either online or through e-challan (additional transaction charges may apply). In case, a candidate chooses to pay through e-challan, then the payment should be made in cash at any branch of the bank mentioned in the e-challan latest by October 10, 2015 (Saturday).

There will be total 7 papers for the JAM 2016 exam namely, Biologocal Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics and Physics.

The syllabus will be of 10 plus 2 plus 3 level.

Ph.D Science:Candidates must have a M.Sc / M.Tech in relevant discipline with 60% of marks from any of the recognised universities.

Ph.D HSS:Candidates must have a Master degree with UGC/NET Score or M.Phil degree in relevant discipline with 55% of marks from any of the recognised universities.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore & Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) conduct the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) for admission to M.Sc. (Two Year), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, Integrated Ph.D. and other Post-Bachelor’s Degree Programs at IISc Bangalore & IITs. The main objective of JAM is to consolidate Science as a career option for bright students across the country. IIT Roorkee invited applications for admission to Ph.D. programmes for the Spring Semester of the Session 2012-13. Ph.D Programmes are available in all departments/centres including Institute Instrumentation Centre, Centre of Excellence in Transportation Systems, Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation and Management and Centre of Excellence in Nanotechnology.

Eligibility :
Masters degree in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/ Urban & Rural Planning / Pharmacy / Computer Applications of 3 years duration after graduation, in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded.

Such candidates should have qualified GATE prior to admission to M.Tech/M.Arch or thereafter (GATE score may or may not be valid) or UGC/ CSIR NET wherever applicable.This condition shall not be applicable to Sponsored Research Scholars/ Part-Time Research Scholars

OR

Masters degree in Sciences/Humanities & Social Sciences/ Management in respective discipline or equivalent with a valid NET (CSIR/UGC)/NET (LS) or valid GATE or valid GPAT score and minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute where letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks where marks are awarded.

OR

B.Tech. / B.Arch. degree or equivalent in respective discipline with excellent academic record (with a minimum CGPA of 7.0 on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 70% marks) and in possession of a valid GATE score.

Eligibility

Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR Master’s degree in Science/Engineering/Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering/Technology (from any Institute other than IITs / IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks.

PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences:

Master’s degree in Arts / Commerce / Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent OR Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology /Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks OR Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology (from any Institute other than IITs / IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 80% marks.

Request for form must be sent in an envelope super scribed with ‘Request for Ph.D. Application form’.

Filled in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials (both sides) and a Demand Draft for Rs.200/- for General/ OBC candidates and Rs.100/- for SC/ST/PD candidates drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Patna in favour of IIT Patna should be sent to the Assistant Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna – 800 013, Bihar, to reach on or before 29th April 2011. CEED 2010 Application Process

Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is an all India examination conducted by IIT Bombay, on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. CEED is a qualifying examination for Admission to Master of Design (M.Des.) Programmes at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur, and Ph.D. Programmes in Design in some Institutes.

Objective:

- Assessment of aptitude for design, involving:
- Visual perception ability
- Drawing skills
- Logical reasoning
- Creativity and communication skills
Qualifying Examination for Admission to Master of Design (M.Des) Programmes at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi,

IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur, and Ph.D. Programmes in Design in some of the above Institutes, for the Academic Year 2010-2011.

IITs to Introduce New Courses

Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) will soon introduce new courses in medicine, humanities and design among others.

IIT Kharagpur (IIT- Kgp) has invited private partners for setting up a super speciality hospital in its premises this year.

The institute is planning to initiate a MBBS programme once the hospital starts functioning.

The institute has been venturing into different disciplines like opening a law school dealing with property rights as well.

IIT, Guwahati (IIT-G) has stepped into humanities by introducing masters' programme in development studies from this academic year.

It will comprise of six subjects - Economics, English & Linguistics, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology & History and Archeology.

Although, all IITs offer humanities department and offer electives to engineering students, but there are very few full-fledged undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

IIT, Kanpur (IIT-K) and IIT-Kgp offer an integrated M.Sc in Economics and research programmes in humanities.

The Yash Pal committee setup by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) had recommended in its report that IITs should become full-fledged universities and also offer broad-based university curriculum on the lines of Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

IIT, Delhi (IIT-D) is planning to introduce two-year MA programme in development and cultural studies.

IIT, Bombay (IIT- B) offers PhD programmes in humanities.

IIT, Madras started a five-year integrated MA program in English, Economics and development studies in 2006.
