DBT-Research Associateship 2017-2018

Applications are invited from Indian Nationals for the award of “DBT-Research Associatcship” for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and applied biology. The Associateship is tenable in Research Institution/ Universities including non-profit R&D Institutions within India. The Associateships are awarded under a program sponsered by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Eligibility :

The applicants should hold a Ph.D degree in Science, Engineering or M.D or M.S. (Medicine) degree in any area of medicine with research interests in Biotechnology and Life Sciences and a good academic record. The Associatcship can be availed within 2 years of the award of Ph.D./M.D./M.S. (Medicine) degree; however, may be relaxable (by 2 years) in case of in-service candidates. Those who have already submitted the Ph.DJM.DJM.S. (Medicine) thesis are also eligible to apply (attach proof of submission from the Registrar / Controller of examinations). The applicants should be below the age of 40 years and 45 years in case of women and in-service candidates. Persons already employed arc also eligible to apply. However, their applications should be routed through their employers.

Award details :

The Research Associateship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 2 years. In exceptional cases, depending upon the progress of the research, the Associateship may be extended upto 5 years. In both cases, renewal is subject to satisfactory annual academic progress. Each fellow would be entitled to a stipend in the range of Rs.36,000-40,000/- per month and a research contin ency grant of Rs.50,000 per year, payable to the host Institution. Candidates who are yet to be awarded the Ph.D./M.D./M.S. (Medicine) dcgrcc, if selected will be paid Rs.28,000/- per month till award of the degree. The associate would also be entitled to HRA and other benefits as per the DST guidelines applicable to Research Associatcship. The Associateships normally are not availed at the same Institution where candidates have earned their Ph.D./M.D./M.S. (Medicine) degree or with the doctoral thesis supervisor or continue on doctoral thesis work.

Selection procedure :

The candidates will be selected based on their C.V. and performance in the interview. The interview will be held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in November 2017.

The applicant is advised to propose his/her place of work, name of the supervisor, enclose one page synopsis of proposed research which must be compatible with the on-going research of the proposed supervisor, and his/her consent for availing the Associateship. They should also enclose a declaration stating that if selected for the Associateship, he/she will complete the tenure of the Associateship.

This is a very unique initiative in India with enhanced placement opportunities in Biotech Sector. Launched by Govt. of Karnataka, the course is offered in different specializations in 12 well known institutions across the State. Eligibility : Candidates must have a minimum of 50% in Masters degree from Universities of the state or any other University recognized as equivalent in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or any other life science related courses; B.E./B.Tech. – Biotechnology, Bioinformatics; Bachelor of Pharmacy, Agriculture, Veterinary, MBBS and BDS are also eligible to apply.

Candidates who have appeared for the M.Sc/B.E/MBBS and BDS final exams can also apply. Upon selection, a provisional degree certificate should be submitted to the respective colleges within two weeks of course commencement.

Jawaharlal Nehru University will hold Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination -CBEE 2012 for admission to

(1) M.Sc. (Biotechnology);
(2) M.Sc.Agri./ M.V.Sc(Biotechnology) and
(3) M.Tech (Biotechnology) Programmes being offered by various participating Universities.

Eligibility :
M.Sc. in Biotechnology:

Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education in Physical, Biological, Agricultural, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering/Technology, 4-years B.Sc. (Physician Assistant Course); OR Medicine (MBBS) OR B.D.S. with at least 55% marks.

M.Sc.(AGRI.) Biotechnology/M.V.Sc.

Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3/4/5 pattern of education with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade point average from any recognized university in the concerned subjects.

M.TECH. in Biotechnology

Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in any one: B.Tech/ B.E. in Chemical Engineering/Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Chemistry/ Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Technology, B. Pharma, OR M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics.

Only those candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations in 2010 or thereafter including those who are appearing in 2012 are eligible to apply. In other words, those who have passed the qualifying examination PRIOR to 2010, are not eligible to apply.

A candidate can apply either “Online” or “Offline”.

Online Application: Candidates can apply Online on payment of prescribed fee if they have access to a computer, a printer and Internet by logging on to JNU website www.jnu.ac.in or www.jnuonline.in . The sites have been designed in a ‘user friendly’ way to help candidates for applying Online in a step-by-step fashion. BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination 2010

Instituted by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, New Delhi
Coordinated by Bioinformatics Centre, University of Pune

University of Pune (UoP), on behalf of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, will conduct the BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) examination. The objective of this examination is to certify bioinformatics professionals, trained formally as well as self-trained.

Eligibility-:
Graduate in Science, Agriculture, Veterinary, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering & Technology are eligible to appear in the examination. They need not have any formal training viz., certificate, diploma or degree in Bioinformatics. Students in final year of Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply.

To Apply-:
The online application begins on December 1, 2009 and will continue until January 16, 2010. The examination fee is Rs. 600/- for general category, Rs. 450/- for reserved category and US $100 for foreign students. Please visit the website (http://bioinfo.ernet.in/binc/) for detail information.

Syllabus consists of four sections: biology, physical and chemical sciences, IT, and bioinformatics.

More About Examination:
The examination is scheduled on February 20-21, 2010 and will be in three parts. The paper I will be objective type, only those who pass this paper with a minimum of 40% marks will be eligible to appear for the paper II and paper III. The paper II will be short answer type, while the paper III will be a computer-based practical. The certification will be awarded to those who secure a minimum of 40% in each of the three papers.

Fifteen research fellowships will be awarded to BINC qualified Indian nationals, in order of merit, to pursue Ph.D. in Indian Institutes/Universities. Note that the candidate must meet the criteria of the institutes/universities in order to avail research fellowship. In addition, a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- will be awarded to the top 10 BINC qualifiers.

RGCB PhD in Biotechnology admission 2010

Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology-RGCB PhD admission 2010

Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) has major research programs in Disease Biology & Molecular Medicine as well as Plant Biotechnology & Discovery. Applications are invited from Postgraduates in Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Biotechnology, Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences for our PhD program, currently affiliated to University of Kerala.

General category applicants must have First Class or above throughout and a valid Research Fellowship from UGC/CSIR/ICMR/KSCSTE or Category A of DBT and should be less than 28 years of age as on June 1 of 2010.

SC/ST candidates with a valid fellowship need to have only 50% marks, will be eligible for age relaxation as per rules, and are exempt from processing fees.

There is a fee of Rs. 500 (Rupees Five hundred only) for all general candidates. A Demand Draft drawn in favour of Director, RGCB and payable at Thiruvananthapuram should be enclosed along with the application. The name of the candidate and the telephone number should be written in pencil behind the DD.
SC/ST candidates are exempt from paying any fees.

Eligibility: Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in any one: B.Tech/B.E. in Chemical Engineering/Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, B. Pharma, Chemical Technology, OR M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics. (Also B.Tech/B.E in Electrochemistry, Bioengineering and M.Sc. in Chemistry & Physics in case of Anna University; M.Sc in Marine Biotechnology, Marine Biology/Aquatic Biology & Fisheries, Environmental Biotechnology in case of Cochin University of Science and Technology and M.Sc. in Bioengineering in case of West Bengal University of Technology).

IMPORTANT NOTE: (for candidates of all categories) Only those candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations in 2007 or thereafter (including those who are appearing in 2009) are eligible to apply. In other words, those who have passed the qualifying examination PRIOR TO 2007 are not eligible to apply for taking admission to any of the programme i.e., (1) M.Sc. (Biotechnology); (2) M.Sc.Agri./M.V.Sc(Biotechnology) and (3) M.Tech (Biotechnology).

Reservation/Concession :
a) Reservation: 15%, 7½% and 3% of seats shall be reserved for SC, ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) (PH) candidates respectively. All the SC/ST and PH candidates who have passed the qualifying examination are eligible to apply irrespective of their percentage of marks in the qualifying degree examination. OBC reservation, wherever applicable, will be implemented as per the policy of each participating University.

b) Concession for Kashmiri Migrants: 10% marks will be added to the overall marks scored by a Kashmiri Migrant candidate in the entrance examination. After adding 10% marks, in case he/she is covered in the cut-off point in the merit list, he/she will be offered admission strictly in accordance with his/her inter-se merit alongwith other candidates subject to his/her meeting the minimum prescribed eligibility requirements and also subject to his/her producing valid registration documents issued by the notified authorities certifying the candidate's Kashmiri Migrant status.

Tuition Fee/ Scholarship:
Fee shall be charged from the admitted candidates as per the fee structure of the concerned University. Candidates selected for admission to those of the participating Universities, which are supported by the Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India), are generally eligible for scholarship at the rates prescribed by the Dept. of Biotechnology.

Candidates may please note that the M.Sc. Biotechnology programme being offered at Punjabi University, Patiala and Thapar University, Patiala, is currently not being financially supported by the Department of Biotechnology. Therefore, the award of scholarships, if any, shall be governed by the rules prevailing in these Universities. Students admitted to Gulbarga University will not get any scholarship.

Procedure for getting the form :
In Person: Sets of Application Form and Prospectus can be obtained personally on cash payment of Rs.200/- per set from any of the participating University as shown above.

By Post: Those willing to get the Application Form by post should send their request only to the Deputy Registrar (Admissions), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067, alongwith a Bank Draft (valid for six months) of Rs.260/-(for one set of Application Form and Prospectus). The Bank Draft should be drawn in favour of "Jawaharlal Nehru University" payable at New Delhi. The request should accompany a self-addressed unstamped envelope of the size of 28x20 cms. indicating clearly on the top of the self addressed envelope the programme for which Application Form is required, i.e., "M.Sc.
