Bioinformatics Industrial Training- BIITP 2013

Department Of Biotechnology invites online applications for Bioinformatics Industrial Training Programme (BIITP) 2013-14 from students of bioinformatics for practical industrial training in bioinformatics and biotechnology companies for a period of six months. Stipend of Rs.8000/- per month will be paid to candidates placed for training. The objective of BIITP is to provide industrial exposure to bioinformatics students to improve their job prospects.

The students are placed for training in Bioinformatics & Biotechnology companies willing to impart practical training to these candidates. The training is for a period of six months during which every trainee is paid a stipend of Rs. 8000/- per month. The company is also paid a bench fee to cover expenses towards training. This programme is mutually beneficial to the students and companies as it provides industrial exposure to the students and an opportunity for industry to select prospective manpower. This programme is advantageous for the companies as it gives them an opportunity to assess the performance of the trainees and subject to availability, suitable trainees could be considered for placement.

Eligibility : B.Tech. / B.E. / M.Sc. / M.Tech. / Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics (minimum 1 year) and BINC qualified candidates, completed in the year 2012 or 2013 with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade.

Online applications are invited for admission to job-oriented one year Post Graduate Diploma programmes catering to the needs of Biotech-industry through the Biotechnology Finishing Schools- BTFS

This is a very unique initiative in India with enhanced placement opportunities in Biotech Sector. Stanford-India Biodesign Internship Program 2012

Applications are invited for a 3-month internship in Stanford-India Biodesign (SIB) program at SIB center, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

SIB is a collaborative program between AIIMS, IIT Delhi and Stanford Biodesign, Stanford University, USA The goal of the program is to train the next generation of medical device innovation pioneers for India through hands on real-world projects of low-cost medical device innovation run by teams of SIB Fellows with support from consultants and interns. The program brings together engineers, doctors, product designers and business professionals on to one team to ensure successful identification, invention and implementation of solutions in the real world. The program is funded by Dept. of Biotechnology and Indo-US Science & Technology Forum.

This is an intensive 3 month program (extendable) consisting of hands-on training in Stanford’s pioneering Biodesign process for inventing medical technologies as the interns work on real world projects. It offers an opportunity to work in a unique, creative work culture.

Eligibility:
Both experienced professionals and fresh graduates with masters (preferred)/ bachelors in Engineering, Design, Medicine, Bioengineering, or business are encouraged to apply, with age not exceeding 40 yrs. Candidates with entrepreneurial aspirations are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to mechanical engineers and product designers for this year’s program.

Duration: 15th April 2012 to 15th July 2012 (Full time)

Stipend: Monthly stipend of Rs. 20,000/-. No additional allowances.

Jawaharlal Nehru University will hold Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination -CBEE 2012 for admission to

(1) M.Sc. (Biotechnology);
(2) M.Sc.Agri./ M.V.Sc(Biotechnology) and
(3) M.Tech (Biotechnology) Programmes being offered by various participating Universities.

Eligibility :
M.Sc. in Biotechnology:

Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education in Physical, Biological, Agricultural, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering/Technology, 4-years B.Sc. (Physician Assistant Course); OR Medicine (MBBS) OR B.D.S. with at least 55% marks.

M.Sc.(AGRI.) Biotechnology/M.V.Sc.

Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3/4/5 pattern of education with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade point average from any recognized university in the concerned subjects.

M.TECH. in Biotechnology

Biotech Industrial Training Programme-BITP 2011-2011

Department of Biotechnology invites applications from post-graduates in biotechnology for practical training in biotech companies. Stipend will be paid to selected candidates. The objective of BITP is to provide industrial exposure to students to improve job prospects and to help biotech industry to identify prospective manpower. Since 1993, hundreds of post-graduate students have been trained in leading biotech companies and several trainees have been absorbed.

Eligibility
B.Tech./B.E./M.Sc./M.Tech./M.V.Sc. in Molecular & Human Genetics, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Neuro-Science, Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology, Bio-process Technology, General/ Agricultural/ Industrial/ Marine/Medical/Pharmaceutical/Environmental/Plant/Food/ Animal Biotechnology, completed in the year 2010 or 2011 with minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade. Students from DBT supported teaching programmes will be given preference. M.Sc in Bioinformatics and Biotechnology

The institute is offering an MSc in 'Bioinformatics and Biotechnology' from 2011. The course will provide competence in both biotechnology and computational biology/bioinformatics by providing training in the areas of cell and molecular biology, computer science, statistics, bioinformatics and so on (syllabus available below).

IBAB has been running a Postgraduate Diploma in Bioinformatics since 2002, and the 10th batch is currently doing its coursework. It has also been running a Postgraduate Diploma in Laboratory Biotechniques since 2004, and the 8th batch is currently doing its coursework.

Every student is provided access to a fully loaded high-end PC and extensive access to the internet for the entire duration of 2 years. Lectures are delivered by in-house faculty, distinguished academics and industry scientists from leading institutions/companies within the country or from abroad. A large amount of time is devoted to learning through material available on-line, journals, seminars, tutorials, group discussions etc. Thus the extensive lecture/tutorial program is supplemented by an enabling environment and associated self-learning through assignments and project work.

Degree awarded by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)
Note - This will be regular face-to-face M.Sc Programme at the IBAB campus, in Bengaluru. It is not a distance - education programme.

BEST-India 2010 Biotechnology Entrepreneurship

BEST-India (Biotechnology Entrepreneurship Student Teams) is aimed at encouraging young postgraduate and doctoral students in developing biotechnology entrepreneurship and exposing them to issues involved in commercialization of bio-science.

BEST is sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (www.dbtindia.nic.in), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and is administered by ABLE - India (www.ableindia.org)

Eligibility-:
Applicants must be students who are pursuing their masters, doctoral degree, BE or B Tech courses in the area of life sciences (bioscience / biotechnology and/or related subjects) from Indian universities / Institutes.

Students of the above disciplines who have completed their courses not earlier than April 2009 can also participate.

The applicants should form a team of 5 students and nominate a team leader. The individual team members may or may not be from the same Institute/University. One third of the team members can be from disciplines other than life sciences.

Teams who have participated in BEST 2009 can also take part but with a different concept idea.

Each team will submit only one entry.

Core biotechnology disciplines under which Concept Notes will be invited include Agriculture, Aquaculture, Alternate Energy/Bio-energy, Bioinformatics, Biological Applications, Bioprocess Engineering, Environment, Food, Human Resource Development, Medical, Medical Diagnostics, Medical devices, Medical Therapeutics, Nanobiology/Nanobiotechnology, Vaccines.

The proposals could be either for product, service or an application.

The 3 Winning teams will also be awarded Prize money of Rs.500,000/-, Rs. 300,000/- and Rs. 200,000/ respectively.

NATIONAL CHEMICAL LABORATORY (NCL Pune) Ph.D. Programme (JRF)-2009

NCL is a major knowledge based laboratory devoted to research in the following area:-
• Agricultural Biotechnology
• Bioorganic Chemistry
• Microbial and Mammalian Cell Culture
• Molecular Host-pathogene Interactions
• Molecular Marker Technology
• Plant Tissue Culture
• Structure-function and Crystallography of Biomolecules

Applications are invited from candidates who are holding MSc degree or equivalent in all branches of Science and have qualified in CSIR-NET under CSIR/UGC fellowship scheme or DBT/ICMR JRF examination scheme or BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

Selection-:
Selection for admission to the Ph.D. programme will be done on the basis of an interview to he held at NCL in broad disciplines of Organic Chemistry, Catalysis, Life Sciences, Physical & Theoretical Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Polymer Science and Chemical Engineering. The number of students to be selected in each of the above disciplines will depend on the vacancies that will exist for each of the disciplines. A candidate may choose to be considered in any three of the above disciplines. The candidates will be interviewed separately in each of the disciplines of his/her choice. Separate merit list will be prepared in each of the above disciplines.

Tenure The selected JRFs will be eligible for a stipend of Rs.12,000/- p.m. + House Rent Allowance (HRA) as admissible under rules and a Contingency grant of Rs.20,000/- per annum.

On completion of two years, JRFs could be upgraded to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) on assessment which will enable them to get Rs.14,000/- p.m. The total tenure including the fellowship period shall not exceed 5 years.

-: The candidate should have qualified in NET examination held on December, 2008 under CSIR/UGC category or should have valid award letter under the above or should have qualified under DBT/ICMR JRF examination scheme or BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination.

After adding 10% marks, in case he/she is covered in the cut-off point in the merit list, he/she will be offered admission strictly in accordance with his/her inter-se merit alongwith other candidates subject to his/her meeting the minimum prescribed eligibility requirements and also subject to his/her producing valid registration documents issued by the notified authorities certifying the candidate's Kashmiri Migrant status.

Tuition Fee/ Scholarship:
Fee shall be charged from the admitted candidates as per the fee structure of the concerned University. Candidates selected for admission to those of the participating Universities, which are supported by the Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India), are generally eligible for scholarship at the rates prescribed by the Dept. of Biotechnology.

Candidates may please note that the M.Sc. Biotechnology programme being offered at Punjabi University, Patiala and Thapar University, Patiala, is currently not being financially supported by the Department of Biotechnology. TRAINEESHIP/STUDENTSHIP IN BIOINFORMATICS AT THE APEX
BIOINFORMATICS CENTRE FOR THE YEAR 2008-09
The Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India has established a nationwide Bioinformatics Network in
the country known as Biotechnology Information System (BTISnet), to accelerate Biotechnology R&D and
industry activities. The Apex Biotechnology Information Centre (BTIC) of this network is situated in the
Department of Biotechnology to coordinate the activities of the BTISnet. As part of the human resource
development activities in Bioinformatics, the BTIC offers 6 month Traineeship/Studentship in bioinformatics.
Applications are invited for the Traineeship/Studentship for undertaking advanced training and to carry
out project work in the area of Bioinformatics. Applicant should possess PG degree/PG diploma in
Bioinformatics for traineeship whereas those pursuing PG degree/PG diploma in Bioinformatics are
eligible for studentship. The traineeship and the studentship are awarded for a period of six months from
the date of joining and are not extendable. The selected candidates are entitled to receive a stipend of Rs
5000 per month for a period of 6 months.

University of Pune BINC examination 2009

University of Pune, on behalf of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, will conduct the BINC examination on February 21-22, 2009.

The objective of this examination is to certify bioinformatics professionals, trained formally as well as self-trained.

Registration is open from 1-12-2008 to 16-1-2009.

Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology PG admissions

Applications are invited for the following courses

1. Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics – 18 months

2. Post Graduate Diploma in Cheminformatics – 18 months

3. Post Graduate Certificate/ Diploma in Biotechniques – (8/14 months)

4. Advanced Diploma in Organic Synthesis – 9 months


Eligibility: 1. For Bioinformatics: Bachelors/Masters in Engineering, IT, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Medicine, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Veterinary, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Life Science

2. For Biotechniques: Masters in Life Science, BTech/BE in Biotechnology, BSc Biotechnology, MBBS may be considered

3. For Cheminformatics: Masters in any branch of Chemistry, Bachelors/ Masters in Pharmacy, BE/ BTech in Chemical Engineering

4. For Organic Synthesis: M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry only.


Application procedure: Application process fee is Rs.800/- for regular candidates & for NRI , the fee is Rs.1500/-

2. Same application form is valid for all the courses

3. Application processing fee is to be paid separately for each course (Eg.: Application processing fee = 2 X Rs.800 = Rs. 1600/- if you apply for two courses, say, Bioinformatics and Cheminformatics or Bioinformatics and Biotechniques
