CSIR is now introducing a two-year-full-time residential Post-Graduate Research Training Programme in Engineering (PGRTPE) under the Quick Hire Scientist (QHS) Scheme in the following cutting-edge technological areas:

Technological Areas Coordinating Institute
Advanced Semiconductor Electronics
This programme focuses on current developments of semiconductor-based microelectronics and nanoelectronics areas covering the fundamentals, advanced topics and applications supplemented with associated practicals and laboratories covering the processes, tools and methods. Specializations in MEMS and Microsensors, Optoelectronics and Photonics, Nanoelectronics and VLSI Design provide the avenues for further exploration based on the candidate's interest of acquiring the latest knowledge in these fields. Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI), Pilani

High Power Microwave Devices & Systems Engineering
This unique programme provides the necessary in-depth knowledge required for future work in the area of high-power microwave devices and their system engineering. It offers courses related to slow-wave and fast-wave devices, CAD techniques used for the design of microwave tubes, specialized tubes and their applications as well as fabrication technologies used. Microwave tubes are at the heart of satellite and broadcast communications, radars as well as generation of plasma and find extensive use in medical, consumer and industrial domains. Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI), Pilani

Advanced Instrumentation Engineering
Instrumentation Engineering is the synergistic combination of mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, control engineering, systems design engineering, and computer engineering to achieve measurements and control. It is a multidisciplinary field involving material science, sensors & actuators, optics, signal processing, statistics, computation and communication. The applications for this field are mostly visible in Health, Agriculture, Aviation, Safety, Security, Space, Manufacturing and Processing Sectors.
This PG research programme on Advanced Instrumentation Engineering aims to provide in-depth exposure to the engineering concepts, scientific principles, research methodology and hands-on experience on advanced real-life R&D projects in different specialisations of advanced instrumentation engineering. Students completing this two-year programme will be fully research-enabled and industry-ready. Due to its multidisciplinary nature, graduates from wider branches of engineering can enrol into this course. The first semester of the programme focuses on core subjects and associated laboratories. The second and third semesters of the programme provide further sub-specialization in the areas of:

* Agrionics (AG)
* Photonics (PH)
* Biomedical Engineering (BM)

The third and fourth semesters give the opportunity to the candidates to effectively utilize the knowledge acquired through the courses towards advanced R&D project work and dissertation in their chosen specialization areas. Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO), Chandigarh

Mechatronics
Mechatronics is a design philosophy which encourages engineers to concurrently integrate precision mechanical engineering, digital and analog electronics, control theory and computer engineering in the design of “intelligent” products, systems and processes rather than engineering each set or requirements separately. The advantages of the Mechatronics approach to design are shorter design cycles, lower costs, and elegant solutions to design problems that cannot easily be solved by staying within the bounds of the traditional engineering disciplines. Mechatronics further relates to a multidisciplinary approach to product and manufacturing system design. It represents the next generation machines, robots, automotive and aerospace systems, reprography, medicine, manufacturing machinery and smart mechanisms for carrying out work in a variety of environments.
The Post Graduate Research Programme in Mechatronics intends to acquaint students with the fundamentals of mechatronics through pedagogy on current theoretical and practical developments in this area. The programme traverses a wide range of applications that comprise robotics, product design, instrumentation, manufacturing methods, computer integration and process & device control, with specific emphasis on innovative engineering. Students undergoing this course are expected to emerge properly equipped to confront challenges across the industrial environment and academic research spectrum. Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur

Materials Resource Engineering
The two year post graduate research training program on Materials Resource Engineering is built on the philosophy of promoting quality education and enabling a centre of learning to develop research and industry ready manpower who can become future technology leaders in the areas of mineral engineering, process metallurgy and advanced materials. The programme will provide in-depth exposure to the engineering concepts, scientific principles, research methodology associated with mineral processing, extractive metallurgy, and environment. The students will have exposure to hands-on research & industry interaction to enable development of the right skill, acumen, and expertise to meet the needs of minerals and materials industry. Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT), Bhubaneswar
Advanced Petroleum Science and Technology
IIP being a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research is involved, in Research & Technology development in the hydrocarbon sector for more than four decades, is the nodal centre for conducting a 2 year PG Research Programme in “Advanced Petroleum Science and Technology”. The first semester of the programme focuses on the core courses. The second semester offers the specialized courses in the field of Petroleum Refining technologies, alternate fuels and analytical methods for detailed characterization of crude and products. The third and fourth semesters give the opportunity to the candidates to effectively utilize the knowledge acquired through the courses towards advanced R&D project work and dissertation in choosen areas. The third semester is also aimed at providing Advanced Self study courses which will prepare them in specialized areas like catalysis, alternate fuels, heat integration, green diesel and many more under the guidance of IIP scientists. On successful completion of this programme the candidates will be fully equipped to work in the hydrocarbon sector as research scientists in a globally competitive environment. Moreover, high performing candidates from among those who successfully complete the programme are likely to be considered for appointment as regular scientists of IIP. Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), Dehradun
Engineering of Structures

Our programs and curricula related to the course Engineering of Structures provide education and training through a holistic approach to structural engineering, by emphasizing and building on the commonality in materials, mechanics, and analysis considerations across the disciplines of civil, aerospace, and mechanical engineering. The program features strong components in laboratory experimentation, basic theory, information technology, and engineering design. The post graduate research program is aimed at training selected number of students as highly skilled professionals in Civil/Aero/ Mechanical engineering with the proper academic and engineering credentials to assume leadership roles in industry and academia. Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC), Chennai

Environmental Systems, Modeling & Optimization
The main goal of the course is to foster rational thinking in complex decision situations related to environmental problems by studying the physical laws underlying environmental phenomena. This course provides a background for engineering students to learn and achieve a scientific understanding of important environmental issues concerning pollution and mitigation. There is a tremendous need to comprehend not only the physical and chemical principles underlying a process, but also to translate this understanding into a mathematical form, solve the resulting equations and interpret/apply the results towards process improvement. The field of mathematical modelling has seen significant progress, both in terms of techniques of modelling as well as in the ability to handle complex models. Thus it is possible in many instances today to reduce actual experimentation to a minimum and obtain the required information through numerical experimentation on the mathematical model. National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur
