AICTE to Shut 800 Engineering Colleges

AICTE to Shut 800 Engineering Colleges

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) wants to close down about 800 engineering colleges across India as there are no takers for their seats, and admissions are plunging in these institutions every year.

There are approximately 150 colleges which are closed down voluntarily every year due to stricter AICTE rules. According to a rule of the council, colleges that lack proper infrastructure and report less than 30% admissions for five consecutive years will have to be shut down

A total of 65 engineering colleges will be shut down in 2017. AICTE has released a list of 65 institutes which cannot admit students in first year engineering programme. However, the existing students will continue.

Some colleges have been asked to submit a report on their choice of closing down or merging with another college as the change will be effective from 2018-19 academic year.

IIT JEE 2015 Application Process

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, institutions funded by several participating state governments and other institutions.

For admission to NITs, Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) like IIITs etc. and other participating Institutions, the merit/rank list shall be prepared based on 40% weightage to school Boards marks in class 12th or equivalent examination and 60% weightage to JEE(Main). The weightage to school Board/Equivalent examination marks shall be considered only after normalization.

The States of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Nagaland & Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State level examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) -2015 application form online.
The JEE (Main) 2015 will be conducted from April 4 - 11, 2014.

The JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which candidates have to take if they are aspiring for admission to the UG courses offered by the IITs/ISM Dhanbad.


The detailed information bulletin containing details of examination, syllabus, eligibility criteria to appear, examination fee, cities of examination, State code of eligibility, age relaxation, process of normalization of marks, eligibility for admission, reservation policies and important dates will be available on JEE (Main) website www.jeemain.nic.in on 7th November 2014. The
aspiring candidates are requested to download the information bulletin from above mentioned website only and read the same carefully before applying.

The aspiring candidates have to apply online only through JEE (Main) website www.jeemain.nic.in. The online application process will start from 7th November, 2014 onwards. The last date for application is 18th December, 2014. The eligibility criteria for JEE (Main) & JEE (Advanced) are different. The candidates are requested to read the information bulletin carefully and themselves ensure their eligibility as per the criteria laid down for JEE (Main) as well as JEE (Advanced). In order to facilitate the aspiring candidates, the JEE (Main) secretariat has designated Facilitation Centres across the country who will help the candidates in filling online application without any charge. Check your eligibility from the information bulletin that is available online on the official website.

Go through the online format and instructions for the online application available in that information bulletin carefully and keep all that information ready before you apply

Keep the required documents like the scanned copy of your photograph, signature and left hand thumb impression ready in JPG format.

Fill the application form very carefully, reading through all the instructions on the form

Upload the scanned images of your photograph, signature and thumb impression in the specified sections

Submit these details and after this an e-challan would be generated

Now submit the due examination fee by either credit or debit card or by the e-challan

There would be an acknowledgement slip that you need to download and keep this slip carefully with you to refer to it in future.

The candidate shall take the print out of the filled in applications and send to “The Director, Centre for Admissions, Anna University, Chennai – 25” with required enclosures and a Demand Draft for ` 600/- for General category (` 300/- for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu).
The Demand Draft Should be drawn in favour of “Director (Admissions), Anna University” payable at Chennai obtained from any nationalised bank on or after 21.10.2012.

JEE Main 2013 Help Centres

The CBSE announced the list of help centres for JEE Main 2013. Aspirants can check the help centres for JEE 2013 across the country. Around 44 centres have been announced and more are expected to be added over the next few weeks. The services at these centres will be available free of cost.

JEE Main can be taken up by all engineering aspirants, only 1.5 lakh shortlisted students from the JEE Main will be eligible for the JEE Advanced. Admission to the IITs will be done on the basis of category wise All India Rank obtained in JEE Advanced. For admission to the NITs 40% weightage will be given to Class 12 board exams marks and remaining 60% weightage for the JEE Main score. Both the scores will be combined to finalize the All India Rank.

The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE(MAIN) 2013 is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination in 2013 may also appear in JEE(MAIN) 2013 provisionally.

GATE 2013 IIT Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering

GATE 2013 IIT Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering

Admission to Postgraduate Courses (Master's and Doctoral) with MHRD and other Govt Scholarships of Assistantships in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science is open to those who qualify in GATE. Some papers of GATE will be conducted online while the rest will be conducted offline.

Candidates have to apply ONLINE. The application fee is Rs.1200 for General / OBC category candidates and Rs.600 for the SC/ST/PD category candidates. The application fee is not refundable. Pl. note that women candidates are exempt from application fees.
