JAM 2018 Application Process

JAM 2018 will be held on February 11, 2018 (Sunday)

Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) is being conducted from 2004 to provide admissions to M.Sc. (Four Semesters), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, etc. Programmes at the IITs and Integrated Ph.D. Degree Programmes at IISc for consolidating Science as a career option for bright students. These postgraduate programmes at IITs and IISc offer high quality education in their respective disciplines, comparable to the best in the world. The curricula for these programmes are designed to provide opportunities to the students to develop academic talent leading to challenging and rewarding professional life.

Eligibility

In order to fulfill IIT JAM 2018 eligibility criteria, candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ ST/ PwD category candidates). It may be noted that the aggregate marks should be without rounding off and take into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined, informs the official website.

Candidates who have appeared or will appear for their graduation exams in 2018 are also eligible to apply.

For candidates who have been given letter grades/ CGPA as a substitute for percentage of marks, the equivalence in percentage of marks will be decided by the admitting college/ institute. Proof of passing graduation exam with minimum educational qualification as specified by the admitting institute should be submitted by September 30, 2018, states the official website.

Besides the proof for minimum educational qualification, candidates also need to submit a physical fitness certificate at the time of admissions. Candidates found unfit to pursue his/her Science course can be denied admission by the admitting institute.

Age criteria: There is no age limit to appear for IIT JAM 2018 exam.

To Apply :

For IIT JAM 2018 registrations, candidates need to apply for the exam in the online mode. Candidates need to visit the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) link present on the official website of the exam and fill the IIT JAM 2018 application form there.

IIT JAM 2018 application fee also needs to be paid in the online mode only via net banking/ debit card/ credit card. It may be noted that candidates can apply for maximum two test papers at a time. But for appearing for the second test paper, candidates need to pay an additional application fee.

IISc Fellowships for PhD Programme 2015

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore has invited applications for fellowships in Ph.D/M.Sc programmes.

Eligibility :

Foreign students are eligible to apply only for a Ph.D. programme or an M.Sc.(Engg) programme. They are NOT eligible to apply for an integrated Ph.D. programme, ME/MTech programme, the undergraduate programme etc.

Non-Indian Citizen and NOT persons of Indian origin are eligible to apply for admission (Indian citizens i.e. those holding an Indian passport (whether residing in India or abroad) need to apply through the regular admission process.)

Persons of Indian origin holding non-Indian passports can apply for admission through the regular process of admission for Indian citizens provided they hold an Overseas Citizenship of India as per section 7B(1) of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955. In addition, they need to satisfy all the eligibility criteria for admission prescribed for Indian citizens.

Eligibility Criteria for Individual Programmes :

For Ph.D. programme: A Masters degree or a four-year undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline. Departments offering a Ph.D. programme and their respective eligibility criteria are listed in this page.

IISc DBT-Research Associateship 2014-2015


IISc DBT-Research Associateship 2014-2015

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore invites applications from Indian Nationals for the award of "DBT-Research Associateship" for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and applied biology.

The Associateship is tenable in Research Institution/ Universities including non-profit R&D Institutions within India. The Associateships are awarded under a program sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.


ELIGIBILITY
The applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Science, Engineering or M.D. or M.S. degree in any area of medicine with research interests in Biotechnology and Life Sciences and a good academic record. Those who have already submitted the Ph.D./M.D./M.S., thesis are also eligible to apply. The applicants should preferably be below the age of 40 years, and 45 years in case of women candidates. Persons already employed are also eligible to apply. However, their applications should be routed through their employers.

PERIOD OF FELLOWSHIP
The fellowship is awarded for a period of two years. However, in exceptional cases, based on the progress of research, and overall importance of the project of the Fellows, the fellowship may be extended upto 5 years. The evaluation and recommendation for the extension of the fellowship will be made by the host institution as per their internal guidelines.

The award of fellowships will normally start from 1st April or 1st October in a Calendar year. Accordingly, the selection of Fellows will be made twice a year.

NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIPS
Up to 75 Fellowships would be awarded every year. Depending on the success and utility of the programme, the number of fellowships to be awarded per year would be revised.

DETAILS OF THE AWARD
The Postdoctoral fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 2 years. In exceptional cases, depending upon the progress of the research, the fellowship may be extended upto 5 years. Each fellow would be entitled to a stipend in the range of Rs. 22,000 - 24,000 per month and a research contingency grant of Rs. 50,000 per year, payable to the host institution. Candidates who are yet to be awarded the Ph.D./M.D./M.S degree, if selected, will be paid Rs. 18,000/- per month till the award of the degree. The fellows would also be entitled to HRA and other benefits as per the DST guidelines applicable to research fellowship/associateships. The fellowships cannot be availed at the same institution where the candidates have earned their Ph.D./M.D. degree. Candidates who are already in regular employment cannot avail the fellowship at their host institutions. However, there will be no restriction on them to receive the salary and other benefits while availing the fellowship in institutions other than their parent institutions.

MODE OF APPLICATION
Candidates may submit their application on plain paper along with bio-data, list of publications (attach reprints of 2 important papers), copies of certificates (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D./M.D.), one page synopsis of Ph.D./M.D. thesis, 2 letters of recommendation (academic). The applicant is advised to propose his/her place of work, name of the supervisor, enclose one page synopsis of proposed research which must be compatible with the on-going research of the proposed supervisor, and his/her consent, for availing the fellowship. They should also enclose a declaration stating that if selected for the fellowship, he/she will complete the tenure of the fellowship. However, they may be allowed to relinquish the fellowship only if accepting permanent employment in India. Those who had applied previously need not apply.

MODE OF SELECTION
The candidates will be selected based on their C.V. and performance in the interview. The interview will be held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and candidates called for interview will be paid II class railway (non-AC)/bus fare by the shortest route from their home town. If the candidate accepts the fellowship, he/she must join the host Institution/University within a month's time.

IISc Bachelor of Science Programme 2011

The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore will start a four - year Bachelor of Science (B.S) Programme in 2011. The following major disciplines will be available in this programme.

Students specialising in any of the above disciplines will also take courses in engineering, humanities, and inter-disciplinary areas for a well - rounded learning experience.

Students who will appear for the 12th Standard board examination (or equivalent) in 2011 and those who have passed this examination in 2010 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects are eligible to apply for admission to this programme. IISc Integrated Ph.D Admissions 2010

Indian Institute of Science-IISc offers exciting opportunities to motivated and talented Bachelor’s degree holders with a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in frontier areas of Biological, Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences leading to a Ph D degree. Experience shows that students entering this program save nearly a year compared to those who go for a 2 years Master's degree program elsewhere and then join the Institute for a Ph D program. Each year, the Institute admits 42 students (12 in Biological Sciences, 12 in Chemical Sciences, 10 in Physical Sciences and 8 in Mathematical Sciences) under this program. The program consists of flexible course work, an internship-type laboratory training (wherein ample opportunities exist for the candidate to acquire basic experimental skills and familiarity with advanced techniques for research), a research project to demonstrate attainment of a high degree of scientific ability followed by advanced research leading to a Ph D thesis on a specific topic.

Eligibility-:
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology/ Chemistry/Physics/Mathematics under the 10+2+3 system are eligible to apply for admission to the Integrated Ph D program. Candidates with BE/B Tech are eligible to apply to the Mathematical Sciences.

Additional notes-:
(a) The minimum requirement for admission to the Integrated Ph D program is a FIRST CLASS or and equivalent Grade for the Bachelor’s degree (as declared by the University) as indicated against each department. Refer to Section 3.3 for more details.
(b) The minimum requirement of FIRST CLASS in the qualifying examination is relaxed to PASS CLASS for SC/ST candidates.
(c) Some departments have specific requirements of subjects at the Bachelor’s or 10+2 levels as indicated in Section 3.3. Candidates have to ensure that they meet these requirements and this should be clearly reflected in the Academic profile of the Application Form which is to be enclosed with the data sheet.
(d) Those in the final year of their qualifying examination and awaiting results are also eligible to apply. However, they should have completed all the requirements for the award of the qualifying degree, including all examinations, dissertation projects, viva-voce, etc., by the time of joining, i.e., by the 29th of July 2010.

Selection Procedure-:
All the candidates who apply to the Integrated Ph D program should qualify in the IISc Entrance Test 2010, which is to be held on Sunday, 25th April 2010. The short-listing of candidates for interview is done based on the performance in the IISc Entrance Test. Interviews are held during May 31 - June 02, 2010. Selection will be based on the combined performance in the Entrance Test and in the Interview.

To Apply-:
The Application Forms for Research, Course and Integrated Ph D programs may be obtained by any of the following three methods:
(1) Against a cash payment of Rs.700/- from select CANARA BANK Branches$ .
(2) Send your request for application form with 2 address slips (stickers), and a demand draft for Rs.700/- for general category (Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PH categories, along with a copy of an appropriate certificate) to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 560 012. The DD must be drawn in favour of “Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore”.
(3) Online application – Online submission of application may be made by accessing the IISc website www.iisc.ernet.in/admissions w.e.f. 08.02.2010. Online application fee is Rs.600/- for general category and Rs.300/- for SC/ST/PH categories.
For External Registration Program - Candidates should write to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, IISc, Bangalore - 560 012, enclosing a DD for Rs.1500/- drawn in favour of “Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore”.

Submission of Application Form-:
Filled-in off-line and online application forms(hard copy) should reach the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, IISc, Bangalore-560012 on or before 22.03.2010

Separate application form should be used for each program viz Research or Course or Integrated Ph D. Only one application form will be entertained for each program.
