ELS One World Essay Contest 2015

ELS Educational Services, Inc. recently declared submissions open for their Many Languages, One World essay contest which invites students from recognized universities all over the world to submit their essays. The contest is sponsored by the United Nations in order to support their sustainability goals for the future and promote the continued impact of linguistic multiculturality upon the organization and the world at large. Those who write an essay selected by the appointed panel will win a trip to US and will be taken to New York to participate in the United Nations Global Youth Forum and ELS Preparatory Conference.

The topic of the essay ought to be post-2015 global development which is fostered by greater co-operation and interaction between culturally and linguistically diverse nations around the world. The essay itself should be no more than 2000 words and in one of the six official languages of the United Nations: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. Only students above 18 years of age and currently enrolled in a recognized university are eligible for the contest. Also the essay must be endorsed by a University Faculty Member or Authorized Representative who will certify it is the applicants' original, unaided work.

70 Students will be selected as delegates to the 2015 United Nations Academic Impact Global Youth Forum where they will create plans of action related to the United Nations Post-2015 Global Development Agenda. The students will present these plans of action at United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

Educational Testing Service- ETS awarded 21 TOEFL scholarships to outstanding students from India. The TOEFL scholarship programme recognises TOEFL teset takers in India who excel academically and demonstrate well-rounded qualities, including participation in extracurricular activities such as commumnity service.l One scholarship in the amount of US $10,000 and 20 scholarships each valued at US $3000 were awarded to further undergraduate or graduate studies for students in India in the 2013 academic school year. The scholarships can be used at any of the more than 8,500 institutions in more than 130 countries that accept TOEFL test scores.

The British Council IELTS Scholarship Award was launched with the objective of assisting Indian students intending to study at universities abroad. Keeping with its mission to promote the global sharing of knowledge and ideas, IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world’s leading English language test designed to evaluate ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation worldwide.

Eight successful scholarship award winners will receive an award of Rs. 3,00,000/- each towards the cost of tuition fees. The award winners will begin a full time postgraduate programme at any overseas university that uses IELTS as a part of its admission requirements and as a reliable measure of English language proficiency.

For the third consecutive year Educational Testing Service-ETS announces the launch of the TOEFL Scholarship Programme in India. Created specifically for Indian Students, the scholarship programme will award scholarships valued at approximately US$70,000 an increase of US$10,000 in award funding from 2011. Scholarship funding can be applied to either under graduate or graduate study for the 2012 academic year. Ten scholarships will honour Indian students demonstrating academic success including Four US$10,000 scholarship for study at a college or university located in Australia, Canada, UK and / or the United States and listed in the TOEFL destinations directory Six US$5,000 scholarships for study at any college or university listed in the TOEFL destinations directory. IGNOU Online Programmes in Chinese language

The Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU and Chinese Institute of Chennai and Shri Mahavira Jaina Vidyalaya Education Foundation, Gujarat to provide online virtual programmes in Chinese language.

Both the institutes have agreed to work with IGNOU in offering six and twelve months certificate and diploma respectively in Online Chinese language and culture. These programmes will be launched through online virtual class method and also face to face at both of these institutes under the supervision of SOFL, IGNOU.

One of the main objectives of this programme is to reach learners all over India through internet. Through this method, a virtual classroom will be created by which learners can interact with teachers and vice-versa.

This Programme also intends to expose students to the Chinese Business world by introducing a Programme on how to do business with China. After fag end of the Programme, students also will be connected to all business houses which are doing business with China so that there is a possibility for them to be absorbed subsequently in those corporate sectors. Students who will be doing very good in their term-end examination, IGNOU will consider some of them to send to Chinese Universities for further sharpening their knowledge amidst Chinese citizen in China

Study Centre of Foreign Languages (SCOFL) is announcing admissions for French, German, Japanese, Spanish and Mandarin for the 22nd year in Nanavati College, off S.V. Road, Vile Parle (west).

The classes will be held only on Sundays for three hours till February 2010 Reading, writing and conversation of each language will be taught. Anybody above age 12 years can take admission.
