IGNOU MA Journalism & Mass Communication Programme

Indira Gandhi National Open University-IGNOU has launched a new academic programme, MA (Journalism & Mass Communication), in Open and Distance Learning mode with a blend of theory and practice. MA (JMC) aims to develop skilled human resource in media and communication and enable the learners to avail employment opportunities in various media sectors. It will also upgrade the knowledge and skills of those who are working in media organizations without a formal training.

The programme will be useful for those who intend to make a full time career in the print media, radio, television, new media, advertising, public relations, media research and development media sectors. It will be equally relevant for those who are already employed in any of these media and would like to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

To join the programme, learners should have Bachelors Degree in any discipline. They should have access to computers, Internet and basic knowledge of word processing. The duration of the programme is two years which can be completed in five years, due to the flexibility of the ODL system. Initially the programme is on offer in English medium. The fee is Rs 25,000/ for two years; payable in two installments of Rs 12,500/ per year.

IGNOU launches PG Diploma in Mental Health Admission 2017

IGNOU's School of Social Sciences (SOSS) has launched a Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health (PGDMH) programme from July'2017 session.

The programme is offered by the Discipline of Psychology, SOSS, and aims at providing the learners a sound base in the field of mental health through an in-depth study into a broad range of psychological issues and concerns related to mental health.

“The objective of the programme is to build capacity through spreading of awareness and training of personnel working in the field to take care of the pressing need of the society addressing the mental health and well-being of the people,” explained the programme co-ordinator Dr. Swati Patra. She further added that the programme would help address the mental health requirements of people in view of shortage of trained mental health personnel in India.

The prospective learner for the programme should be Post Graduate in Psychology/Social Work/Nursing or be a medical graduate in any of the medicine fields viz., Allopathy/Homoeopathy/Ayurvedic/Unani/Siddha.

The programme follows Open & Distance Mode of education and uses multiple media approach viz., self-instructional print material, audio-video programmes, counselling sessions, teleconferencing and interactive radio counselling through Gyan Vani, FM channel of IGNOU.

The courses covered under the programme range from Fundamentals of Mental Health, Mental Disorders to Services for the mentally ill. The last date to apply for the programme is 18 August 2017 through online admission procedure of the University.

IGNOU has launched an innovative Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Urban Planning and Development. The programme designed with the help of experts from the field of urban development, aims at deepening the knowledge and understanding of the learners about the importance of urban planning and development.


Objectives
* To provide opportunity to the learners to deepen their knowledge and understanding about urban planning and development.

IGNOU offers admission in Diploma in Elementary Education Programme- D.El.Ed commencing in 2013.

The D.El.Ed programme of IGNOU is an innovative programme for the professional development of primary/elementary school teachers.
The programme is self-instructional, and has been developed by the school faculty and a highly experienced group of teacher educators. The programme is recognized by NCTE (National Council for Teacher’s Education).

The course eligibility would be applicable for untrained teachers teaching in permanent positions at the primary/elementary level with a teaching experience of 2 years or above. The applicant should have passed 10 + 2 examination with a minimum of 50% of marks (as per NCTE norms).

The course duration is minimum 2 Years and maximum 4 years. Medium of instruction will be in English and Hindi.

IGNOU Panchakarma Therapy Programme 2013

IGNOU announces a six month skill based vocational training programme on ‘Panchakarma Therapy’. This is a residential, skill development programme including practical and theoretical training with hospital posting.

The course is open to both female and male candidates for capacity building and enhancing the livelihood opportunities. Applications are invited from candidates having passed tenth standard with functional knowledge of English between the ages of 18 to 28 years.

The training will be conducted at the campus of Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT) at Bangalore

The last date for submitting the application forms to CTKS is 25th December 2012. Twenty candidates will be selected at Bangalore after rigorous short listing.

IGNOU launched a new online Appreciation Programme on Sustainable Management of Biodiversity (APSMB) for July 2012 session.

The programme shall be available online on the SAVE (Sustainable Action and Virtual Education) platform. it is a complete virtual learning environment suite covering all the activities form registration to programme delivery.

Programme Objectives : The conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity and the eradication of extreme poverty are two of the main global challenges. It has been recognized by the international community that these two challenges are intimately connected, and require a coordinated response. The sustainable management of biodiversity is one of the most important challenges facing humanity; one that requires the active participation of dedicated professionals who are committed to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject. Our generation has the unenviable task of making hard, possibly irrevocable, decisions on sustainable management of biodiversity at local, regional and international levels. In this context, the aim of this Appreciation programme is to provide a critical and conceptually sophisticated understanding of biodiversity science and the socio-economic, political, cultural and institutional environments within which sustainable management of Biodiversity and policy decisions are made. This programme promote awareness and capacity building for sustainable management of biodiversity for mainstreaming biodiversity into the daily lives of individuals, recreating the relationship between people and nature, securing the linkages between forests, rivers, and the sea and taking actions in a global context.

IGNOU New Courses DWM/CWHM 2012

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has started its admission process for two special courses in water harvesting.

Diploma in Watershed Management (DWM) and Certificate in Water Harvesting and Management (CWHM) for July 2012 session.

The programmes are meant for learners interested in basic knowledge and skills for water harvesting, conservation and utilization. It also includes basic aspects of agriculture like soil erosion and its management; integrated farming systems like crop husbandry, animal husbandry, agroforestry, fish farming etc. They intend to address the workforce requirement and focus on upgrading the knowledge and skills of existing personnel.

The eligibility requirement for the diploma programme is 10+2 pass or the learner should have completed the Bachelor Preparatory Programme (BPP) from IGNOU while for the certificate programme the learner should be 10th pass. However, 10th pass can enroll simultaneously for the BPP and the diploma programme.

a) For Stream ‘A’:
i) At least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST Stream) in Masters Degree from a duly recognized University/Institution.
ii) Candidates with M.Phil. or 5 years teaching/professional experience may be exempted by the Doctoral Committee from undergoing Course Work (worth 32 Credits and a minimum of one year duration). However, they cannot claim this exemption on the basis of having M.Phil degree/5 year teaching/professional experience unless such candidates possess knowledge and skills in the area of research proposed by him/her.

The programme is aimed at building the capacity of managers of over 1,00,000 telecentres and village knowledge centres, that will be in operation soon throughout the nation.

Downloaded admission application form, duly completed/filled in, can be submitted along with an amount of Rs. 100/- in addition to the programme fee in the form of a Demand Draft/Cash Order in favour of “IGNOU” payable at the Regional Centre.

The last date to apply for IGNOU Distance Courses January 2012 admission is 30th November 2011 without late fee and 15th December 2011 with late fee of Rs. 200/-.

IGNOU Online Programmes in Chinese language

The Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU and Chinese Institute of Chennai and Shri Mahavira Jaina Vidyalaya Education Foundation, Gujarat to provide online virtual programmes in Chinese language.

Both the institutes have agreed to work with IGNOU in offering six and twelve months certificate and diploma respectively in Online Chinese language and culture. These programmes will be launched through online virtual class method and also face to face at both of these institutes under the supervision of SOFL, IGNOU.

One of the main objectives of this programme is to reach learners all over India through internet. Through this method, a virtual classroom will be created by which learners can interact with teachers and vice-versa.

This Programme also intends to expose students to the Chinese Business world by introducing a Programme on how to do business with China. After fag end of the Programme, students also will be connected to all business houses which are doing business with China so that there is a possibility for them to be absorbed subsequently in those corporate sectors. Students who will be doing very good in their term-end examination, IGNOU will consider some of them to send to Chinese Universities for further sharpening their knowledge amidst Chinese citizen in China

IGNOU & C-DAC to offer PG in ICTE

IGNOU & C-DAC to offer PG in ICTE

IGNOU and C-DAC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to offer post graduate degree programmes in advanced areas of Information and Communication Technology and Electronics (ICTE) at the various C-DAC centres.

The objective of this MoU is to develop full/ flexi time diploma, M.Tech degree programme and research programmes leading to Ph.D. and M.S. by research of IGNOU at C-DAC centres. It aims to undertake joint research programmes in ICTE areas and apply for funding from National and/ or International agencies.

Programmes in M.Tech/ M.S. on Cyber Forensics, M.Tech in Microelectronics and VLSI system are ready for launch while M.Tech/ MS in high performance computing and M.Tech/MS in IT with specialization in software technologies and enterprise architecture are still in the pipeline.

According to the MoU, the M.Tech degree programme would normally consist of specific set of course work for one year, followed by a project of one-year duration. Sufficient flexibility will be incorporated to intersperse the project and the course work for maximum effectiveness.

Provision will also be made to convert course credits to diploma/ certificate program. Some of these courses can be offered as diploma/ certificate programmes with focused specialisation. The collaboration would also lead to effective national/ international workshops, conferences, seminars, symposiums and publish the proceedings thereof.

IGNOU School of Law (SOL) in collaboration with PRAYAS will soon launch a Diploma course in Child Rights, Child Protection and Juvenile Justice.

The course aims to enable the learners to gain understanding of the basic nature, problems and issues related to child protection and juvenile justice; build capacities and commitment aimed at ensuring prevention, timely intervention and accountability for promoting a healthy childhood; develop a synergy between theory and practice on issues of child protection and juvenile justice.

The programme also prepares the personnel to manage various positions for effectively implementing juvenile legislation; improve their skills and comprehension; creates and enhances large scale social awareness and advocacy; enables legal, administrative and social work ractitioners to seek the creation of new law in response to the newly emerging societal needs and improves the institutional infrastructure for implementing institutional services for children.

The course is of interest to any NGO personnel (at least a graduate) working in various child welfare fields, law enforcement agency officers, lawyers, magistrates, counselors, probation officers, superintendents/ deputy superintendents of observation/ remand homes and other institutions providing services to children. Officers serving the directorates of social welfare and/ or the ministry of women and child development, child protection workers/ advocates, social workers, school counselors/ social workers, community mental health workers can also enroll for the course.

Though the course is open for any graduate but preferably, the learner should be MA in Social work/ psychology/ sociology from a recognised university or PG Diploma in rehabilitation psychology or professionals having minimum two years of working experience with law enforcement agency.

Having availed the training offered through the course, the students would become eligible to occupy important and responsible posts in various government and non-government organisations that uphold child rights and protection, curb child trafficking or deal with the cases of missing children. This course would serve as an opening to gain valuable experience and avail job opportunities as ‘Child Protection Officers’ under the integrated Child Protection Scheme in the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12) in research, academics, governance, administration, NGO’s and development agencies

The School of Health Sciences (SOHS) of Ignou will be launching a medical cell wherein a series of post graduate medical programmes having national and social relevance shall be launched.

The IGNOU School of Health Sciences is initiating the planning and development of three full-time PG medical programmes of two year duration each. These are Post Graduate Diploma in Anaesthesia, Post Graduate Diploma in Radio-Diagnosis and Post Graduate Diploma in Critical Care Medicine for those with MBBS degree.
