Application are invited for the First YEar Diploma courses in Tourism and in Software Development


B. Voc. is a three year degree course with multiple exit points. Students can leave:
1. At the end of first year with a Diploma
2. At the end of second year with an Advanced Diploma
3. At the end of three years with a Degree

B. Voc (Software Development) : The IT sector in India is growing and vocationally trained skilled workforce in very large numbers(~ 40,000) is required for automation of enterprises & companies.

This course will be designed so that at the end of three years students will get B. Voc. (Software Development) degree and can seek jobs in the field of materials management in manufacturing industries in the purchase / stores/ sales & marketing departments.
However, at the end of first year student can leave with a Diploma and seek jobs as Computer Assistants for the General Office & Accounts Management. If they continue through the second year they can leave with an advanced diploma and seek jobs in the technical management in publishing, entertainment media & social industry.

B. Voc (Tourism) : India’s huge natural, historical and cultural diversity is poorly tapped by the tourism industry. According to one source, India’s position stands at 41 internationally and 11 in the Asia-Pacific region. While the Government and other agencies look into the infrastructural and other essentials for Tourism development we see lacunae in the availability of well trained Tour guides, Managers, Operators to develop the vast potential for Tourism that India has to offer. Besides, the concept of Tourism and hospitality management has now widened to include Event Management of both short and long programmes for corporate groups, educational institutes etc. This service–based industry requires (besides cognitive, creative and core-competency skills in the practical and organizational aspects of the industry) crucial and well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.

IGNOU offers Master of Arts in Tourism Management (MTM) Programme designed for those students who are interested in pursuing a career in tourism sector at managerial level. This is for aspiring entrepreneurs or those running their own tourism agencies. The programme consists of four semesters.

For further education one can go for Ph.D. in Tourism related areas and jobs in education sector

Eligibility for MTM is Category 1: BTS,BA (Tourism); B.Sc. 4 Years (Tourism Management) Hospitality and Hotel Administration(BHM); Bachelor’s in Hotel Management (approved by AICTE) and those students who have done their graduation in any field along with a Diploma in Tourism, which is recognized in the University System or by AICTE.

Category 2 : A Bachelor’s Degree in any field. (However, all students of Category 2 will have to pass four additional Tourism foundation courses during their period of study.)

The Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology is a four year extensive programme affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H) consisting of eight semesters with 800 hours of industrial exposure training. IGNOU Tourism Courses Admissions 2012

IGNOU offers Master of Arts in Tourism Management (MTM), Bachelor’s in Tourism Studies (BTS) and Certificate in Tourism Studies (CTS) for not only entrepreneurs but also extends to those who are already employed, directly or indirectly in any branch of the industry.

The Master’s level programme is meant for those who intend to take managerial jobs or make a career in tourism industry (travel agency, hotel, tour operator, etc.), or providing tourism related services through their own enterprise or planning to become an entrepreneur, are associated with tourism awareness programmes and research or would like to update their knowledge and skills in the field of tourism.

Students with Bachelors in Tourism, B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration, Bachelors in Hotel Management (approved by AICTE) and those who have completed their graduation in any field with diploma in tourism recognized in the university set-up or by AICTE are eligible to apply for the course.

Though students with a bachelor’s degree in any field are also eligible to apply but they will have to pass four additional tourism foundation courses during their period of study. The programme is of minimum two years duration and can be completed in maximum four years.

IGNOU also offers Diploma in Tourism Studies (DTS) consisting of 36 credits (each credit equals 30 hours of study). The course content for the diploma programme includes- foundation course in tourism, tourism development: products, operations and case studies and management in tourism along with project work.

Candidates having completed Bachelors Preparatory Programme (BPP) from the university or with 10+2 or its equivalent are eligible to apply for the diploma programme.

Student handbook and prospectus is available in all the regional centers of the university as well as in the university’s headquarters which can be purchased for Rs.100 and submitted along with the requisite fee in the form of a demand draft to the concerned regional centre.

The last date to submit the application form for both the programmes is July 30, 2012 (with late fee of Rs.200 up to August 14, 2012).

For sensitizing youth to tourism

IITTM invites applications from eligible students to participate in 21 days training programme during summer vacation. Programme intends to create awareness and impart basic knowledge and skills on Tourism so that the students can work as volunteers. Programme will be organized at Gwalior, Bhubaneswar and Delhi centres.

Eligibility - Graduate or pursuing graduation, between 18 to 25 years of age, NOC from the college / institute is required for joining this programme.

Stipend - Every successful participant will be paid Rs.1,000/- for entire duration of the programme and a tourism volunteer card will be given

Selection - Selection will be made through a written examination at various centres in India on May 22, 2011.
