Calcutta University PGD Media Studies Admissions 2014

Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Calcutta University, offers admission to PG Diploma in Media Studies: Film and Television, commencing in 2014.

Eligibility: Graduation in any discipline (pass/honours/vocational etc) from a recognized University. Those who have appeared for final examination and awaiting results are also eligible to apply .No age bar. Reservation for SC/ST and physically Handicapped candidates as per rules and University norms.

To Apply: The prescribed Application Form can be downloaded from the official website of CalcuttaUniversity www.caluniv.ac.in. Downloaded application forms completed in all respects along with the proof of payment of Rs. 250/= by University cash Challan from 20th August – 9th September, 2014.

Application fees may be deposited with the Calcutta University through Cash Challan by the candidate. Counterpart of the Slip in original after Cash deposition is to be attached with the application form.

Admission to this course would be done through written test. Question for the written test are set in English and are objective in nature. Emphasis is put on general knowledge, current affairs, proficiency in language, reasoning, audiovisual media etc.

Candidates would be selected through written test and personal interview.

Last date for the submission of application form is September 09, 2014.

Written test would be held on September 12, 2014.

AIC Young Media Fellowship 2013

Australia India Council- AIC has opened applications for the 2013 AIC Young Media Fellowships.

The Fellowships provide career development opportunities for young Indian print and television journalists. The Fellowships encourage the development of networks between Indian and Australian journalists and media organisations, and expose young Indian journalists to Australia.

* A grant of AUD $8,000 to cover international airfares, domestic travel, accommodation and other expenses; and
* Assistance with establishing contacts in Australia.


To be eligible for an AIC Young Media Fellowship, you must:

be a journalist in print or television media;
be born after 1 January 1973;
be employed by a professional Indian print or broadcast media organisation
have your employer's permission to apply and participate in the Fellowship program; and

Post Graduate Programme in Communications Management (PGPCM) leading to Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Communications) - (PGDM-C) 2010 - 2012

Eligibility-:

Admissions to the PGDM (C) programme requires a Bachelor's degree (in keeping with the 10 + 2 + 3 (4) system) with minimum 50% marks or an equivalent qualification in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities. Candidates appearing for the final examination towards a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) are also eligible to apply.

Students with demonstrable aptitude for expressing, assessing or conceiving ideas that move people to action and achieve business results, will stand better chances of being shortlisted.

Selection Procedure-:

The selection process for the PGDM (C) involves three steps:

Stage - I
CAT / GMAT

Candidates have to apply on the basis of CAT 2009 or GMAT (Score of 31 December 2007 or later).

Indian students can also apply with GMAT scores.

GMAT score of 600+ can also be considered in lieu of CAT. (However shortlisting will be conducted depending on the number of applications).

The CAT cut-off percentile for the 2009-2011 : 90 percentile and above overall with sectional cut off of 50 percentile and above in DI & QT. For verbal comprehension, sectional cut off was 60 percentile and above.

Stage - II
MICA Admissions Test (MICAT)

Candidates shortlisted from CAT/GMAT will be invited to appear for the MICAT, which will be conducted in Feburary / March at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai. The MICAT is designed to assess analytical and divergent thinking, written communication skills and familiarity with the Indian ethos.

Note: The Institute reserves the right to change any MICAT Centre without assigning any reason.

Education through Information and Communication Technology By India

Shri Arjun Singh, Minister of Human Resource Development, will launch the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology on 3rd February 2009 in Tirupati at the auditorium of Sri Venkateswara University. This was announced by Shri R. P. Agrawal, Secretary, Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, at a press conference here today. Union Government had approved the Mission in the first week of this month. The highlights of the components of the Mission will be exhibited during the launch ceremony.

The Department of Higher Education had realized the tremendous potential of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning process enhancing the capacity as well as efficiency of the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system by the use of appropriate ICT tools to make the learning interesting and easy through digitizing the learning material thereby converting it to e-contents and widening the access of the learners to the said e-contents. Considering the above, Department had conceptualized a Pilot Project namely ‘SAKSHAT’ – One Stop Education Portal which was launched on October 30, 2006 by the then President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Encouraged with the experience of the Pilot Project ‘SAKSHAT’, a web based Portal providing various services to the student community, it was decided to formulate a Centrally Sponsored Scheme by the name National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology, henceforth called as ‘Mission’, to fully leverage the potential of ICT in teaching and learning process for the ultimate benefit of all learners in higher education sector. The interventions of Mission are to be delivered through the above said One-Stop Education Portal ‘SAKSHAT’.

The proposed Mission broadly has the objective of ensuring connectivity of the learners to the ‘World of Knowledge’ in cyberspace and to make them ‘Netizens’ in order to enhance their self-learning skills and develop their capabilities for on-line problem solving and to work for : creation of knowledge modules with right contents to address to the personalized needs of learners; certification of competencies of the learners, acquired through formal or non-formal means; and to develop and maintain the database having profile of human resources.

The Mission aims for:

(a) building connectivity and knowledge network among and within institutions of higher learning in the country with a view to achieving critical mass of researchers in any given field;

SAGE Publications fellowships for Media and Communication

Two fellowships will be awarded annually, one each in Media and Communication Studies and Business and Management.

*The duration of the fellowships will be one year and fellows will be paid Rs 50,000 a month for 12 months with another Rs 50,000 for travel.

*There are no restrictions of theme or ideology but the work must contribute to an understanding or an advancement of the subject in South Asia.

*The principal brief to the fellows is to author a book on their chosen subject of research at the end of the fellowship. The book may be published by the scholar's choice of publisher with due acknowledgement to the Tejeshwar Singh Memorial Fellowships for supporting the research.

*The fellowships are open to nationals of South Asian (SAARC) countries, including those currently resident overseas. Candidates must be below 40 years of age on April 1 of the year in which they apply.

*The first round of fellowships will come into effect on April 1, 2009. Applicants are invited to submit their curriculum vitae, a research proposal and a 5,000 word sample of their writing.

*The last date for receipt of applications is November 30, 2008.

*The applications for each fellowship will be vetted by a jury of four experts and one representative of SAGE. The award of the fellowships will be announced in February 2009.
