JNCASR Postgraduate Diploma in Materials Science (PGDMS) is a two semester (one year) programme and is meant for students who have completed their M.Sc. Teachers from colleges and universities with M.Sc. as the basic qualification can also apply. The training will be imparted through projects and formal courses. Stipend will be paid as per norms. Boarding and lodging will be available. A Postgraduate Diploma will be awarded on successful completion of this programme. Only limited number of candidates will be selected based on the recommendation of a selection committee.

The PGDSE programme envisaged is to provide opportunities and training to teachers in science education. Various aspects that will be covered in the proposed programme would be subjected content, teaching methodology in science, laboratory experiments, research experience and experience in education technology. The training will be provided through projects and one or more formal courses.

In order to provide opportunities to teachers and others to receive training in science education, this Centre is offering a post-graduate diploma programme in science education (PGDSE). Aspects covered in the programme are: courses related to subject content, laboratory experiments, education technology and research experience. The training will be imparted through projects and formal courses. The programme is for two semesters beginning 1 August every year. A stipend of Rs. 10,000/- per month will be paid to those selected for the programme.

Eligibility: Teachers with B.Sc./M.Sc. with or without B.Ed. as well as from individuals who have B.Sc./M.Sc. qualification and interested in science education. In special cases, teachers working in the vicinity of Bangalore may be allowed to the PGDSE programme and in such cases; the course duration will be four semesters with a stipend of Rs. 6,000/- per month.

Applications are invited for admission to 5 year BS-MS dual degree with major in biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics.

Eligibility
Candidates satisfying at least one of the following three criteria may apply.

KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) Science Stream: Students qualified in SA (2010) / SX (2011) / SB(2011) / SP (Passed 10 +2 in 2011 / 2012).

IIT-JEE 2012: Students obtaining a minimum of 60% marks in class XII and securing a place in rank list.

Central & State Boards: students qualifying in class XII in 2011 or 2012 in Science stream with either

a. Marks above cut-off percentage declared in DST website for the INSPIRE eligibility in http://www.inspire-dst.gov.in . For OBC (non-creamy layer) a 5% relaxation on DST cut-off is admissible. The cut-off for SC / ST is 60% in class XII for all boards in 2012.

b. Advisory note for the eligibility in scholarship for higher education (SHE) under INSPIRE scheme.

Applications are invited from Indian citizens for admission to Ph.D Program scheduled to commence from July 2011 in the following schools of basic sciences at NISER Bhubaneswar:

The students should have qualified the CSIR-NET/GATE/JEST/NBHM or equivalent examination valid for the current year in the relevant area of research. UGC-CSIR JRF qualified candidates can avail the fellowship directly from UGC or CSIR, whereas, students selected for Ph.D program based on GATE scores, are eligible for Fellowship from NISER as prevailing in DAE.

NISER provides Rs.16,000/- as fellowship for Selected Candidates who opt for DAE Fellowship.

The application form is available free of cost and can be downloaded along with the guidelines. Else,the form can be obtained by post, or in person, from the academic section, NISER Bhubaneswar.

NCSM PG Fellowship for M.S in Science Communication

National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) is the largest network of science centres/museums under a single administrative umbrella in the world. 27 science centers/museums of NCSM located in different sites in India have a total floor area of 155043 sq mtrs. and have been visited by around 7 million people during 2008-09.

Continuous upgrade of display materials and technology happens in the Council as a part of its R&D activity.

National Council of Science Museums-NCSM, an autonomous scientific & research organization under the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, engaged in popularization of Science & Technology among the people at large, intends to offer Post Graduate Fellowships(10) for a period of two years commencing from July, 2011

The selected Fellows will undergo full time four Semester Master of Science (M.S) Course in Science Communication being conducted by the Council in collaboration with the Birla Institute of Technology & Science(BITS), Pilani on an off-campus mode. The lectures and tutorials would be held at National Council of Science Museums, Kolkata.

Essential Qualification:
i)1st Class Bachelor degree in Engineering or Technology in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Information Technology/Telecommucation/Computer/Metallurgy/Chemical/Production Engineering
OR
ii)1st Class M.Sc. degree in Physics/Chemistry/Zoology/Botany/Biotechnology /Environmental Science.

Fellowship: Rs.8,000/- per month for two years with contingency grant of Rs.8,000/- per annum.

Mere possession of requisite qualifications shall not entitle the candidates to be called for the Test and Interview. Decision of the Council in this regard shall be final. Canvassing in any form and/ or bringing in any influence, political or otherwise, will be treated as disqualification for the fellowship. Interim enquiries will not be entertained.

NEST 2011 Application Process

National Entrance Screening Test (NEST-2011) is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and UM-DAE CBS have been started by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007. Their mandate is to train scientific manpower for carrying out cutting edge scientific research and for providing input to scientific programmes of Department of Atomic Energy and other applied science institutions in the country. The test is conducted in 34 centers across India.

Programmes in NISER through NEST 2011

NISER offers a 5 year integrated M.Sc. programme in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences. Degrees at NISER will be awarded by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be University within the Department of Atomic Energy.
There are 60 seats this year, including reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC candidates and persons with disability (PD) as per Government norms. Further details are available on the NISER website (http://niser.ac.in).
Programmes in UM DAE CBS- Admission through NEST 2011

The Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has an autonomous Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences in Mumbai. CBS offers a 5 year integrated M.Sc. programme in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences. The degrees at CBS are awarded by the 150-year old University of Mumbai.
Tentatively, there are 35 seats this year with reservations as per government norms, including reservation for persons with disability (PD). Further details including maximum number of seats in any stream and allotment procedure are on the CBS website (http://www.cbs.ac.in).
Eligibility criteria for appearing NEST

Students securing at least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India are eligible to apply. For Scheduled Cast (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%. Students who have passed the Class XII qualifying examination in 2009 or 2010 or are appearing in 2011 are eligible to apply. (Where only Letter grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)

How to apply for NEST 2011 (Applications can be submitted in either of the following ways: 1 or 2)


1. Online form submission is the most convenient and preferred way. Follow these steps to go for it.
a. Register yourself before you login. It is assumed that you already have an e-mail ID.
b. Confirm your registration from a mail sent to you just after registration.
c. Login in the NEST homepage with your mail-id and password.
d. Fill the form and save it or, modify an already saved form.
e. Upload passport photo and scanned signature.
f. Transfer fees or Send DD (in favour of "NEST-2011", payable at Bhubaneswar). Quote Appl.No. in both cases.


2. A letter of request can be sent to get the printed form by post. This form will have to be sent back along with DD after filling it properly. Please send a self-addressed envelop of size 30cm X 22cm.

Post Graduate Diploma in Science Education - 2011

In order to provide opportunities to teachers and others to obtain training and for carrying out science education projects, this Centre is offering a post graduate diploma programme in science education. Some of the aspects covered in the proposed programme would be courses related to subject content, laboratory experiments, research experience and experience in education technology. The training will be provided through projects and few formal courses. The programme will be for one year (for full time students) at the end of which they will be given a post - graduate diploma in science education. The programme will take two years for teachers in service who do this on a part time basis.

Applications are invited from teachers with B.Sc / M.Sc with or without B.Ed qualification as well as from individuals who have B.Sc / M.Sc qualification interested in science education.
