IGNOU launches admission to Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability Science- PGDSS

The major objectives of the programme are to:

Enhance awareness and impart knowledge on urgent measures to be taken to limit population explosion, unsustainable lifestyle, and generation of non-and slowly recyclable e-waste, synthetic chemicals etc.

Transform green revolution into evergreen revolution so that agriculture is no longer a destroyer of forests and biodiversity.

Put “ecology” in the centre of economic development–Principles of ecological economics as well as newer areas such as social economics would be taught along with essential integration with ethics, and equities.

Eligibility of admission :

All graduates from social and natural sciences streams

Policy makers, administrators, scientists and educators as well as general public interested in paradigm shift from the present unsustainable to sustainable development.

IGNOU Online One Year Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability Science-PGDSS Admissions 2013


IGNOU Online PG Diploma in Sustainability Science,an inter-and multidisciplinary programme, have contents drawn from environmental sciences, ecology, economics, anthropology, humanity and social sciences. The ethics, economics, equity, energy, employment and education are the basic components, and the issues concerning population, anthropogenic pressure on planet Earth, the threats such as climate change, free but not fair trade etc. have also been addressed. Emphasis on essential policy requirements has been made with reference to the ecological, social and economic dimensions of sustainable development.

Eligibility :
* Graduates in any discipline.

* Policy makers, administrators, scientists and educators as well as general public interested in paradigm shift from the present unsustainable to sustainable development.

The programme is offered for July Session only. The students seeking admission may get application forms as per the university schedule for admission to July cycle at the concerned Regional Centre. The major objective of APSS is to build the capacity of policy makers, administrators, scientists and educators as well as general public in the science and art of environmentally, economically and socially sustainable development while that of APSMW is to enhance awareness on the role of wetlands on social, cultural and livelihood dimensions of the dependent communities.

2. Appreciation Programme on Sustainable Management of Wetlands (APSMW)

The programme is offered at Chair for Sustainable Development, IGNOU, which was established in 2007 as a University level Chair, cutting across disciplines and schools. The eminent Agricultural Scientist and father of green revolution in India, Prof. M.S. Swaminathan is the Honorary Chair. The main objective of the Chair is to develop and promote Education for Sustainable Development in India and capacity building in Sustainability Science.

Programme Objective: To build the capacity of policy makers, administrators, scientists and educators as well as the general public in the science and art of environmentally, economically and socially sustainable development.

Eligibility: Graduates in any discipline or its equivalent.
Duration: minimum one month and maximum six months. Medium of Instruction: English

To help those involved in agriculture to launch an era of ever-green revolution which can help to enhance productivity in perpetuity without ecological harm

Admission is on for the Appreciation Programme on Sustainability Science for APRIL-2010 session. The objective of the programme is to provide theoretical foundations and practical strategies for achieving the goal of concurrent progress in economic and ecological security.
