TIFR Visiting Students' Research Programme 2014

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research- TIFR conducts annual summer programmes 2014 in which talented students are introduced to research activities in the areas of Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics.

The Visiting Students' Research Programme (VSRP-2014) will be held at TIFR, Mumbai during the period May 12 to July 9, 2014.

VSRP for Mathematics will be held from June 9 - July 9, 2014


Eligibility:

Physics/Chemistry : Pre-final year students of M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech.

Biology : Pre-final year students of M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. Students doing M.Pharm., Medicine/Engineering will be also be considered.

Mathematics: Pre-final and final year students of M.A./M.Sc./M-Stat./B.Tech. Exceptionally bright pre-final and final year students of B.Sc./B.Stat./B.Math. will also be considered.

Computer & Systems Sciences : Pre-final year students of B.E. / B.Tech. / M.Sc. / M.C.A. / M.E. / M.Tech.

Last date for application : For Maths - February 16, 2014

TIFR GS-2011 Application Process

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research-TIFR Graduate School Admissions (GS-2011) Entrance Examination for admission to the following programmes

Ph.D.:
Mathematics (TIFR, Mumbai & CAM, Bangalore),
Physics*, Chemistry, Computer & Systems Sciences, Biology (TIFR, Mumbai & NCBS, Bangalore).
Duration: 5 years.

Integrated Ph.D.:
Mathematics (CAM, Bangalore),
Biology (TIFR, Mumbai & NCBS, Bangalore).
Duration: 6 years.

M.Sc.:
Biology (TIFR, Mumbai).
Duration: 3 years.

* Students applying for Physics also have the option to be considered for

• Biology:
For Ph.D. : Masters in Basic Science or Bachelors in Applied Science. These include M.Sc. (Agriculture), B.Tech., B.E., B.V.Sc., B.Pharma. (4 year course), MBBS, BDS, M.Pharma.
For Integrated Ph.D./M.Sc. : Bachelors in any Basic Science.

Students with training in Physics or Chemistry are also invited to apply for the biology programmes.

• Computer & Systems Sciences:
For Ph.D. : B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech./MCA/ M.Sc. (Computer Science / Electrical Engineering / Electronics Engineering / Information Technology) degree holders.

Exceptionally well qualified students with B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. or equivalent degrees in other disciplines may also be considered.
Final year students with consistently good academic record and knowledge of advanced topics may also apply for the relevant subjects.
Candidates not holding a Master's degree and admitted to a Ph.D. programme can receive an M.Sc. degree by fulfilling prescribed requirements. See http://www.tifr.res.in/~gsoffice for details.

Admission Procedure
The admissions procedure (in all subjects, except Science Education) consists of a written test at one of the 23 nationwide centres.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews to be held during end-February to early-April, 2011. Exact dates would be announced later.
Results of the entrance examination will be announced on January 14, 2011 on this website and students shortlisted for interview will be intimated by email.

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research admissions 2009

Applications are invited for the following programme beginning from August 1, 2009:

1. Ph.D. Programme: in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer & Systems Sciences and Science Education

2. Integrated Ph.D. Programme: in Mathematics (Bangalore) and Biology;

3. M.Sc. Programme: in Biology


Eligibility: a. Mathematics:

M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.Tech./M.A./B.A./B.Sc. degree holders or final year students with a consistently good academic record.

b. Physics / Chemistry:

M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.Tech. degree holders or final year students. Fresh B.Sc. graduates or final year students with consistently good academic record and knowledge of advanced topics may also apply.

c. Biology:

i) Ph.D. Programme : M.Sc. in any basic science discipline, M.Sc. (Ag), B.Tech., B.E.,MBBS, B.V.Sc., BDS, B.Pharm. & M.Pharm.

ii) Integrated Ph.D. Programme or M.Sc.: B.Sc. in any basic science discipline/B.Sc. (Agriculture / Horticulture / Fishery).

(Final year students of all above degrees are eligible to apply.)

d. Computer & Systems Sciences:

B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. (all relevant disciplines) degree holders or final year students with consistently strong academic record. Fresh B.Sc. students with an outstanding academic record and motivation for research.


Application procedure: a) Applications for Hall Ticket may be submitted online. Please refer appropriate link. Students who wish to apply online and make payment by DD may take a print of their application and send it with the Demand Draft with ther name and reference code written behind the DD.

b) Students from remote areas ONLY may apply for a Hall Ticket on plain paper stating :

(1) name, date of birth, address, telephone number, mobile number, e-mail address, subject of choice, preferred test centre and a detailed table of marks from 10th standard onwards.

(2) Two passport size photographs : One pasted and one stapled to the application.

(3) A Stamped (Rs.20/-) and self-addressed envelope (25cm x 17cm) superscribed “GS-2009 (Subject)”.

(4) Demand Draft.

Candidates may appear for the written test in multiple subjects if the timings do not clash. Please send a separate application (including Demand Draft) for each subject.

c) Payment Option :

1) Pay online by Debit/Credit Card.

2) Send DD by post along with application and other material.

d) Demand Draft :

● Biology : DD should be drawn on State Bank of India payable in Bangalore in favour of “National Centre for Biological Sciences”

● All other subjects : DD should be drawn on State Bank of India payable in Mumbai in favour of “Tata Institute of Fundamental Research”.

e) Application Fee (Non-Refundable) :

Regulars applicants : Rs 350/-
Walk-in Candidates : DD of Rs 700/-.

f) Fee Waiver :

A waiver of the application fee on grounds of financial distress may be requested by a letter from the Principal or the Head of the Department justifying the request. Please download the hall ticket application form from the "downloads" section of this website, print it, fill it and send along with photographs and the letter from the Principal / HOD. Please not that applications with fee waiver request will be issued hall tickets as per availability of seats.

Astronomy and Astrophysics Ph.D admissions-IUCAA

The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, and the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (NCRA – TIFR), Pune, are two leading centres of research in a wide range of areas in Astronomy and Astrophysics. IUCAA and NCRA are located in neighbouring campuses in the Pune University Campus.

Admission to Research Scholarship (to do Ph.D.) in Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Physics

Applications are invited from students who expect to complete their M.Sc. (in Physics/ Electronics/Astronomy/Applied Mathematics) or B.E./B.Tech./ M.E./ M.Tech. (any branch) degree, by August 2009, for research scholarship (to do Ph.D.) at either of the following institutes:

IUCAA, Pune, for Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Physics,
NCRA – TIFR, Pune, for Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Selection procedure :

Selection to research scholarship is through a written test on December 18, and interviews on December 18, and/or 19, 2008, both to be held in Pune.

How to apply :

Candidates should download the complete application set (consisting of Application Form (two pages), two Assessment Forms (each of two pages), and Admit Letter (one page), all in A4 size paper) from the web sites listed. However, application set can also be obtained by writing to: INAT – 2008, The Coordinator, Core Programmes, IUCAA, Pune University Campus, Post Bag 4, Ganeshkhind, Pune 411 007, Maharashtra, along with a self-addressed sheet of paper (approximate size 15 cm x 10 cm) with postage stamp of Rs. 15/- affixed on it.

Candidates with a first class degree may also walk-in for the written test by producing a valid photo identity. Further details about IUCAA and NCRA may be found in the web pages listed below.

Important dates :

Request for printed (hard copy) application forms to reach IUCAA by September 29, 2008.

Last date to receive the filled in application sets is October 10, 2008.

The Admission (written) test will be held on December 18, 2008.
