IIM Bangalore to offer Online Courses

Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) will soon bring the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) into practise from July onwards. The courses will be offered free of cost. The registration process for three of these short-term courses has already kicked off.

The students can now learn diverse topics as Statistics, Information Technology (IT) and Operation Management from senior faculty of IIM Bangalore, all while sitting at their homes.

Being the first to join hands with edX, IIM Bangalore will now have it as a contributing member to offer MOOCs. Learners all over the world will be delivered MOOCs by means of latest technology.

The edX platform has been earlier used by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University , who have offered interactive online courses to thousands of the students.

Currently offering only three courses, IIM Bangalore plans to increase the total number of courses to eight by December this year and to ten by April 2016

Around ten faculty members of IIM Bangalore have signed up to formulate and teach the online courses.

IIM Bangalore has also decided to tie up with other IIMs to offer courses to a wider audience such as corporate and service sector.

Starting July 7, students can enrol for courses in Business Statistics, Innovation and IT Management and Operations Management. Each course will be of four to five weeks long and will be imparted through multimedia—video lectures, audios, infographics, quizzes and even group discussions.

At the end of the course, students will get a certificate of completion. Although the courses will be offered primarily in English, as part of its objective to reach a maximum number of people, the courses will also be transcribed in Hindi and subsequently to other languages. IIM Bangalore Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management Admissions 2013

The IIMB PGPPM is a unique opportunity for participants from the private and government sectors who aspire to leadership positions in the area of public policy management. It is ideal for professionals from NGOs, consultancy firms, international agencies, the social and infrastructure sectors, and from the civil services and PSUs.

The programme aims at providing intensive exposure in public policy making and public system management in addition to skills in leadership, decision making and management.

Open candidates (other than government candidates) should be graduates with a minimum of five years of work experience and under 40 years old as on June 1, 2013. Admission Procedure-:

Government (DoPT) sponsored candidates:
Group A Officers of All India Services and Central Services with a minimum of 7 years experience and aged not more than 50 years for General Category and 53 years in case of SC/ST/OBC category as on June 1, 2011

Open Candidates:
Open candidates from other than government sectors should be graduates with minimum 7 years' work experience and aged not over 40 years as on June 1, 2011.
Open candidates need to take CAT 2010 exam or should have secured GMAT/GRE scores between April 1, 2009 and November 1, 2010.

Selection of the candidate is based on two stage processes. At the first stage candidates will be called for interviews based on the following criteria:

At the next stage, selected candidates will be called for an interview in Delhi or Bangalore.

The admission process is highly personalized as the Committee seeks to learn about each candidate’s goals, interest in getting engaged with public system, present exposure to Indian and Global scenarios, and potential for success in public management.

It is proposed to select about 20 to 25 participants from the Open Candidates for the year 2011-2013 batch.
