Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research- IGIDR invites applications for admission to the following programmes:

MSc. (Economics): This is a two-year programme commencing in August 2014.

Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to M.Sc. programme include one of the following degrees or their equivalents: B.A./B.Sc. in Economics/B.Com/B.Stat/B.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics)/B.Tech/B.E. with at least a second division for Economics discipline and first division for other dis cipline s. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level Need-based scholarships are available to Masters students as per Institute’s norms.

MPhil./PhD. (Development Studies): These are interdisciplinary programmes commencing in August 2014. The duration of M.Phil pro gramme is two years and that ofPhD. programme is four years.

Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to the M.Phi and PhD. Programme include one of the following degrees or tlieir equivalents: M.A./M.Sc in Economics/M.Stat./M.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research)/M.B.A./M.Tech/M.E./B.Tech/B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics dis cipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level

Stipend: M.Phil/PhD. students receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 17,000/- in the first two years. Those students, who fulfill the terms and conditions for PhD. registration, would receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 26,000/- after Ph D. registration in the third year.

Selection Procedure: All candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in a Online test and an interview. The Online test will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the following centres: Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, NCR (Delhi), and Thiruvananthapuram.

In Person/Post: Application forms and prospectus may be obtained in person from the Institute Students’ Office on a working day (Monday to Friday, 9.15 a.m. to 5.45 p.m.) by paying the application fee. Alternatively, a request may be sent by post to the Student Office mentioning the candidate’s name, date of birth, gender, address, academic qualifications and choice of test centre.

The application fee ofRs.500/- (non-refundable) must be paid by Demand Draft favouring Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) payable at Mumbai and can be sent by post to the Students Office, IGIDR, Gen A.K. Vaidya Marg, Santosh Nagar, Goregaon (East), Mumbai400 065 (E-mail: soffice@igidr.ac.iri).

Application form can also be downloaded directly from the IGIDR website filled and sent back with the requisite application fee by Demand Draft as mentioned above.

Online: Candidates can fill the application form online available at IGIDR website. The online application fee is Rs. 300/- only.

University of Calcutta M.Phil Economics 2013

University of Calcutta M.Phil. Programme in Economics for the Session 2013-2015.

Eligibility: Any candidate who has passed the M.A./M.Sc. Examination in Economics of this University with 55% marks in aggregate (SC/ST with 50% marks) or with 60% marks in aggregate of any other recognized University is eligible to apply to the M.Phil Programme. Students, likely to complete M.A./ M.Sc. Part-II Examination in Economics by June 30, 2013, are also eligible to apply. Their admission will be provisional subject to satisfying minimum eligibility criterion by August 31, 2013. Selection will be on the basis of an entrance test followed by an interview.

Candidates who have qualified in NET, SET or equivalent national level examination are exempt from the entrance test, but not from the interview. The candidates, found eligible through entrance test and those exempted from entrance test, would be invited to submit a Statement of Purpose (SoP) on which a final interview will be conducted.

The Entrance Test (Written) for admission to M. Phil in Economics for the Session 2013-15 will be held on 1 July (Monday), 2013.

Application forms would be available at C.U. Sales Counter (College Street Campus) from 10.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on all working days on payment of Rs. 465/- for form plus Rs. 35/- for copy of a Brochure, from May 27, 2013 (Monday).

Submission of Forms: Completed application forms will be received by the office of the Senior Secretary, University College of Arts and Commerce (UCAC) College Street Campus, Asutosh Building, Ground Floor, Room No. 3G between 11.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. on all working days up to June 7, 2013.

South Asian University Admissions 2012

In order to promote regional cooperation and inculcation of regional consciousness amongst students of South Asia, a South Asian University (SAU) was established in July 2010 jointly by the eight SAARC Member states. The University is currently located in Akbar Bhawan, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, but its own campus will come up in a few years on an 100-acre plot of land in South Delhi. Through a SAARC inter-Governmental agreement, degrees offered by SAU are recognized in all SAARC countries.

The third academic session of the university will begin in July 2012 for which a SAARC wide entrance test will be held on 27th May, 2012 at various locations in all SAARC countries. Admissions are being offered in following academic Programmes each of two years duration :

Admission for the following two Academic Programmes that would commence from August 23, 2010.

* M.A. (Development Economics), a two-year programme

* Masters in Computer Applications (MCA), a three-year programme

Minimum Qualifications-:

For admission to MA (Development Economics) the applicant should have had Mathematics as one of the subject at the +2 level of schooling. Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent grades from a recognized university, should be in Arts or Natural Sciences with Economics as main or a subsidiary subject.

For admission to MCA programme, a candidate should have had science subjects with Mathematics at the +2 stage of schooling. Bachelor’s degree may be in any subject from a recognized university with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent grades.

Selections-: Final selections for admission will be based upon the academic records and an interview (if necessary).

Intake of Students-: 25 students will be admitted to each of the above two programmes. Applicants from all the eight SAARC countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) are especially encouraged to apply. However, for a limited number of seats, applications from students of countries outside the SAARC region will also be considered.
