Delhi government has recently announced Chief Minister's Urban Leaders Fellowship Programme on Twitter. The programme wishes to fill a total of 30 positions out of which 10 will be for Associate Fellows.

About the Programme

The Chief Minister’s Urban Leaders Fellowship programme provides a unique opportunity to young leaders across India to work within Delhi government to address some of the most pressing urban challenges in India, and experience what ‘making change happen’ looks like. The Fellowship aims to attract outstanding young men and women from across the country under the age of 35 years who are passionate about public service and are willing to work for two years.


Key Features

» Fellows will be assigned to work with Ministers or Senior officials across various departments of Delhi government such as Education, Health, Water, Environment, Transport, Art & Culture etc.

» Fellows will provide analytical support in the formulation of policies, implementation of projects and various governance initiatives.

» Remuneration of ₹1,25,000 per month will be provided to Fellows (20 positions) and ₹75,000 per month will to Associate Fellows (10 positions).

IGNOU has launched an innovative Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Urban Planning and Development. The programme designed with the help of experts from the field of urban development, aims at deepening the knowledge and understanding of the learners about the importance of urban planning and development.


Objectives
* To provide opportunity to the learners to deepen their knowledge and understanding about urban planning and development.

* To expand capacities of the working urban development professionals and elected representatives of Urban Local Bodies on various theoretical and practical aspects of urban planning and development.

* To develop professional knowledge and skills in formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of urban development projects and programmes.

Any graduate can take admission in this PG Diploma programme, which is offered both in January and July session of IGNOU. The duration of the PG Diploma in Urban Planning and Development programme is one year, however, student can complete it within a span of three years and there is no age bar. PG Diploma holders will be able to effectively serve various government, private and non-governmental organizations, dealing with urban planning and development. This programme will also strengthen, the efficiency and effectiveness of in-service personnel working in various organizations dealing with urban planning and development. It will be very useful to the functionaries and elected representatives of Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats.

National Student Challenge Transform Urban India 2012

The National Student Challenge is an all India annual challenge that aims to engage the youth of the nation in challenges facing India’s urbanisation. The first cycle was held in 2011. Teams from all over the country participated to share their proposals. Out of 170 teams that participated, 21 teams were shortlisted to present their intervention proposals and be a part of the India Urban Conference, the largest urban conference held in India at the Mysore Campus of Infosys Technologies. The top three teams were awarded a grant of INR 3,00,000 each along with other cash prizes to implement their solutions. These teams received technical support and mentorship from IIHS towards implementing their solutions. Mentors and judges of the National Student Challenge are experts in the fields of urbanisation, communication and entrepreneurship. Mentors for this year’s event include Meenu Handa, V. Ravichandar, Vasudev Avadhani, Dilip Mehta, Dr. S. Rajagopalan, Debanand Chatterjee, Prof. Amalendu Jyotishi, and A. Suryanarayanan.

he Transform Urban India National Student Challenge 2012 is a part of the Indian Institute for Human Settlements’ overall efforts to elicit young India’s views on urbanisation challenges and support them in transforming the urban landscape in India. National Student Challenge is supported by Rockefeller Foundation.

It includes two components - the student challenge and an academic conclave.

The Student Challenge encourages students to design innovative solutions to pressing urban challenges through the formation of interdisciplinary teams and the submission of a proposal which includes a Problem Statement and a Solution Statement.

The Academic Conclave invites young researchers to share their research work in the field of urbanisation. This year's theme for the Academic Conclave is "Basic Services in Urban Areas". The winning teams get an implementation grant of INR 3 lakhs each in the National Student Challenge in addition to other awards and a chance to interact with leading urban experts.

IIHS would like to invite students from all disciplines to participate in the National Student Challenge 2012. Students pursuing graduation, post-graduation and doctoral studies are eligible to participate in the Student Challenge, whereas the Academic Conclave is open to students pursuing bachelor's and masters' degree.

Participation in the National Student Challenge 2012 would offer opportunities for students to be mentored by experts, to present their solutions to a distinguished panel at a national-level event in November 2012 at Bangalore and to obtain an opportunity to bring their solutions to life.

Last date for registration of teams for the National Student Challenge is 15th September 2012 and last date for submission of proposals is 5th October 2012. The last date for submission of abstracts for the Academic Conclave is 1st October 2012.

Doctoral Program in Architecture and Planning
