NOVUS Scholarship for the life science community's enhancement and evolution, research is considered as a crucial component. This program is aimed at helping students who are interested in the science field and want to develop a career in it. The scholarship is focused to further scientific achievements by guiding and supporting these students.

Eligibility criteria:

Scholarship reward:

L'OREAL India Young Women in Science Scholarships 2012

The Programme was instituted in 2003 and has consistently helped young women to pursue scientific research and development. A scholarship of Rs. 250,000/- each is granted to 10 promising young women and covers college fees for study in any scientific field in a recognized college or university in India.

The scholarship offered is upto a maximum of Rs. 2,50,000 , granted over a period of 4 years of study. The scholarship is not given as a loan. It is paid directly to the college and does not have to be refunded by the recipient.

This scholarship is open for study in any field of science: medicine, engineering, information technology, pharmacy, biotechnology, and other graduate courses pertaining to science (B.Sc) etc

A total of 5 such scholarships are granted each year.

The scholarship is open to all women under 19 years of age,who have completed their class XII examination with a minimum score of 85% in PCM/PCB

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for students

CENTRAL SECTOR SCHEME OF SCHOLARSHIP FOR COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India
has introduced a new scholarship scheme titled “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and
University Students” with the objective to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low income
families to meet day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.
The Scheme shall be effective for Class XII students w.e.f. 2008 Examination.
The scholarships shall be awarded on the basis of the results of Senior Secondary Examination (class XII)
of 10+2 pattern or equivalent and have scored a minimum of 80% marks. 82000 fresh scholarships per
annum (41000 for boys and 41000 for girls) will be awarded for graduate / postgraduate studies in
colleges and universities and for professional courses such as Medical, Engineering etc.
The total number of scholarships will be divided amongst the State Boards based on the State’s
population in the age group of 18-25 years, after segregating share of CBSE and ICSE on the basis of
number of students passing out from various Boards in the country. The number of scholarships allotted
to a Board would be distributed amongst pass outs of the Science, Commerce and Humanities streams of
the Board in the ratio of 3:2:1 with equal number among boys and girls. Within the specified quota, the
selection shall be made on merit.
The detailed guidelines regarding “Scheme of Scholarship” and “Instructions for CBSE Candidates” of
this scholarship scheme may be seen in the Board’s website www.cbse.nic.in
Depending on the number of scholarship available for the CBSE students, candidates who have secured
the cut-off marks (as per table below) in the Senior School Certificate Examination 2008 conducted by
CBSE are being provisionally considered for award of scholarship under this scheme:
Letters to 18745 CBSE candidates as per above Cut-Off marks have been dispatched to candidates
through schools. Candidates may collect their letters from the school from where they have passed
Class XII in 2008.
This is a provisional offer only and final selection will depend on the student satisfying the eligibility
criteria and number of scholarships available for CBSE’s quota under each category of stream. Within the
specified quota, however, the selection will be purely on merit.
In case the candidates have passed Class XII from CBSE in 2008 and satisfy the eligibility criteria of this
Scholarship Scheme and have secured aggregate marks as per above table, may visit Board’s website
cbse.nic.in and fill up the Application as per “Instructions for CBSE candidates” given in Board’s website.

British Council Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships 2009

Dr Manmonhan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, is a graduate and Honorary Fellow of St John’s College. He is widely acknowledged as the architect of the economic reforms that have helped propel India onto the World Stage. In honour of Dr Singh St John’s College, the University of Cambridge launched the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships in Delhi last year. These awards will enable academically outstanding Indian students to come to St. John’s College, University of Cambridge to study for doctoral degrees in subjects like Science & Technology, Economics and Social Sciences.

Applications in Aerospace Engineering and Energy Studies will be of particular interest

Eligibility Criteria

An Indian national with a valid Indian passport and currently based in India. Below 35 years of age as on 31 December 2008. Not already had significant exposure to UK education or received UK government funding.
Should hold a Master’s (postgraduate) degree from a reputed/recognised India university/institution with a First Class award (UG and PG) in the relevant subject/field
Evidence of leadership qualities (to be assessed from personal statements e.g. extracurricular activities and/or evidence of having made a difference to the country/society/participation in symposia in the relevant subject, or peer reviewed publication in the area.)
Keen to pursue and should have identified a full time Doctoral Research degree from the University of Cambridge commencing by September/October 2009
Fluent in spoken and written English
Able to fulfil any other admission criteria laid down by the university.

Application process

It is the responsibility of the applicants to identify a suitable Doctoral programme and supervisor at the University of Cambridge, apply for a place for September/October 2009 and secure admission.

1. Identify a suitable doctoral programme and supervisor at the University of Cambridge.
2. Applicants to visit the Board of Graduate Studies (BoGs) website and make formal application to the University at the same time as to the Dr Man Mohan Singh Scholarships.
3. Applicants to select St John’s College as their first choice College on their BoGs application form.
4. Applicants to indicate on their BoGs form that they are applying for the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships, but also to complete the section applying for funding from the University.
5. Apply for the Scholarship on the prescribed format by 31 December 2008 and submit it to the British Council. Please visit the British Council Website to download the application form.

Notes:
• Only those applicants who get an offer of admission at St John’s College will be eligible for the award of the Scholarship.
• Candidates should NOT approach St John’s College directly at this stage.

Selection

Candidates for these scholarships are selected through a process of short listing from the applications received by the British Council, followed by personal interviews, which will be held in New Delhi .

Subsequent to the interviews the selection committee identifies the required number of candidates for the awards. The decision of the selection committee will be final. Selection results will be communicated within a month following the interview.

Post selection

Pre-departure briefings, UK visa and travel arrangements for the selected candidates will be co-ordinated by the British Council.

The British Council will acknowledge receipt of applications through the emails provided on the application form. For this purpose, applicants are requested to provide their latest email ids. However, the British Council will not be responsible for failure of on-line delivery.
The British Council will further contact only the short-listed candidates inviting them for interviews. Applicants are requested not to contact the British Council office directly.

For Women Having Science Qualification

The Department of Science and Technology had launched a Scholarship scheme in the year 2002 for women having science qualifications for training in the area of intellectual property rights, especially in patent searches, understanding of patent specification and preparation of technology scan report. The scheme is continuing. Applications are invited from interested women having science qualifications for availing of Scholarships.

Long term Objectives :

1. Empower the talented and skilled women who have studied science, engineering and medicines to contribute effectively in the advancement of science and technology in the country.

2. Develop a pool of women in India ready to undertakes scientific and technical aspects of intellectual property rights.

Short term Objectives:

1. Train talented and skilled women who have studied science,engineering and medicines in patent searches and other aspects of intellectual property rights enabling them to seek specialized employment or be self employed.

3. Develop a pool of resource persons in intellectual property rights for conducting workshops on IPR.

Eligibility :

1. Candidates should be M.Sc.,/Ph.D in physical sciences, chemical sciences, life sciences or B.Tech or B.E./M.Tech or MBBS/MS/MD/MVSc/MPharma with good academic record. candidates with higher qualifications can also apply.

2. Candidates should have a good familiarity with computers in handling database, surfing the net and information searches.

3. Candidates with research experience,preparing project reports and experience of thesis writing will be preferred.

Scholarship:

The Scholarship will be admissible for a period of one year and the amount of Scholarship will be maximum of Rs.10,000 per month for candidates having M.Sc., or B.Tech or MBBS and maximum of Rs.15,000 per month for Ph.D/M.Tech/MPharma/MVSc and M.S./M.D

Centers :

During the period of scholarship candidates may be attached to specialized agencies dealing with intellectual property rights and attorneys firms. Placement of candidates after the training is not the responsibility of TIFAC

Selection Procedure :

Selection will be through a written test and interview. Short listed candidates meeting the eligibility criteria and appearing inn the merit list to be prepared by TIFAC will be called for the written test. A further shortlisting of the candidates will be done after the written test for the purpose of interview and such successful candidates will be informed.

Cambridge-Bose Scholarship 2009

Applications are invited from students with a brilliant career for selection as a Cambridge-Bose Scholar. The Scholarship will be given for a period of 4 year in related areas jointly supervised by faculties of the Cambridge University and S.N.Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences leading to PhD degree of the Cambridge University. The scholarship tenable for a period of 4 years is jointly funded by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the S.N.Bose Centre. The selected candidates will be admitted to the PhD programme of the Cambridge University as per the norms and academic standards of the Cambridge University. Students with consistent first class record with M.Sc or equivalent degrees in Physics (obtained within last one year or expecting to finish by August 2009), should send their applications line at www.bose.res.in/cambridge_bose_scholarship within next 15 days (20Th Dec’ 2009). L’Oréal India Young Women in Science Scholarships (FYWISS) 2008

Every year the FYWISS programme provides a scholarship of Rs 250,000/- each to 5 (five) meritorious girl students for a period of four years of study in their chosen scientific field, at a recognised Indian University.

Eligibility Criteria:
· Girl students who meet the following criteria can apply for The L’Oréal India For Young Women In Science Scholarship:

· Have passed the H.S.C. examination from Maharashtra in the academic year ending March 2008, with a minimum of 85% in PCM/PCB.

· Should not be over 19 years of age as on March 31, 2008.

· Should be passionate about Science

Only students who have passed the HSC exam (science stream) in the academic year 2008 should apply. Applications from students who have appeared in earlier years shall not be entertained.
