Summer Training Program at AcSIR provides an opportunity to spend one of your summers working at premier research Laboratories of CSIR with some of the leading scientists in India, in an environment which promotes trans-disciplinary research.

The program is supported/ funded by AcSIR through its AcSIR-Kalam Fellowship.

Fellowship Details

Total number of Fellowships: 20 (With Scholarship)
Duration: Two months; Between the months of May and August
Amount of Fellowship: Rs. 25,000 per student for the duration of the program (payable after successful completion of the training program and submission of project report to the Laboratory Coordinator)
Travel allowance to the selected student: Reimbursable to a maximum of Rs. 5,000 per selected student
This is a compulsorily Residential Program where the selected students would be required to stay on campus of the respective CSIR Labs on charge basis.

Eligibility

Candidate should poses any of the following qualification:
* First year of M.Sc program or equivalent: minimum first-class at pre-M.Sc degree level
* Third to pre-final year of Integrated M.Sc program or equivalent: GPA 6.0 on a scale of 10 (upto IV Sem)
* First year of M.E/M.Tech program or equivalent: GPA 8.0 on a scale of 10 OR GPA 7.0 on a scale of 10 for CFTIs at B.E/B.Tech level or GATE Score ≥600 or NET (Engineering) Rank from 1 to 100
* Third year of B.E/ B.Tech program or equivalent: GPA 8.0 on a scale of 10 OR GPA 7.0 on a scale of 10 for CFTIs (upto IV Sem)
* Third to pre-final year of Integrated M.E/M.Tech program or equivalent: GPA 8.0 on a scale of 10 OR GPA 7.0 on a scale of 10 for CFTIs (upto IV Sem) or GATE Score ≥600 or NET (Engineering) Rank from 1 to 100.

Selection Process

* Screening will be primarily based on a Research Proposal and other screening criteria decided by the Committee.
* An applicant can give five preferences of CSIR Labs/Institutes.
* Shortlisted applicants will be intimated electronically
* Selection Interview will be held at a central location. Appearance at the interview is mandatory for consideration.
* Applicant may be allowed to participate through electronic media for interview (Skype etc.) under specific request.
* Selection is purely based on merit/ performance at the selection interview.
* Food and lodging arrangements shall be made for applicants called for interview only.

JNCASR Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2014

Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research- JNCASR invites applications for its Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2014, for motivated and talented Indian students in Science and Engineering.

The Centre offers summer fellowships for two months to bright undergraduate and MSc students (renewable for a second year for selected students). This programme has proved to be popular and competitive; each year, about 5000 students from all over India apply for the 120 fellowships awarded. Fifty fellowships are supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, fifteen by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, and the rest by the Centre. Students are placed with research groups at the Centre or with scientists elsewhere in India. They are paid travel expenses and a monthly stipend of Rs. 6000. Selected students get the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, and several summer projects have led to publications in leading journals. Many of the summer students of past years have gone on to pursue graduate studies and a research career, at the JNCASR or at another leading university.

To interface interdependent disciplines of computer science and pure sciences as also application programming and scientific computing, it is one of the first of its kind in India. It has close association with the Department of Chemistry and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).The department currently offers Master of Computer Science(M.C.S.), with specialization in Scientific Computing conducted at the University of Pune.

Pune University admission to M.Sc in Scientific Computing is based on the entrance examination conducted at Pune. This examination is designed to test the speed and power of your reasoning and your grasp of the fundamental concepts of mathematics and C-programming. Mathematics done at graduation level will be tested. C-programming will include questions on programming fundamentals and C-language syntax. Your competence in English language will also be evaluated. Sample questions are provided to give you an idea of nature of examination.

JNCASR invites applications for admission to the integrated (int.) Ph.D programme in Materials Science, Chemical Science and Biological Science.

Eligibility criteria for Int. PhD Programme
Materials Science - Bachelor's degree in any branch of Science. Those with Bachelors degree in Engg with an aptitude towards scientific research will also be considered. Candidates are expected to have sound knowledge in the fundamentals of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Chemical Sci. - Bachelor's degree in any branch of Science with Chemistry as a major.

Biological Science- This is offered in two disciplines

New research activities at Delhi University

Delhi University (DU) has come up with a range of schemes to boost its research activities. Madan Mohan, dean, research, Delhi University, explains,
“Though funding for research in Indian universities has improved considerably in the last decade or so, there is a dearth of research motivation. This can be attributed to the fact that policies and guidelines for research have not been in tune with the times. Hence DU, as one of the leading universities, is taking initiatives to attract and sustain the best talent in research.”

To encourage research in the domain of biotechnology, medicine and law, DU has introduced a scheme where students with a BTech, LLB or MBBS can directly pursue a PhD. “One does not necessarily have to pursue a Master’s to register for a PhD,” says Mohan. However, to avail of this scheme, a BTech student should have 70 per cent in the final aggregate, coupled with a good Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) percentile score. For LLB students, the qualifying requisite is 60 per cent in the final aggregate.

“Students who meet this criterion will further be interviewed by the university’s Department Research Committee (DRC). Based on its decision, selected candidates can join the PhD programme,” informs Mohan. This scheme, novel to DU, is applicable to students from across universities in India.

Some of the other initiatives include extending university teaching assistanceships to deserving research candidates, introduction of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cell and patent fund to help researchers cope with publication charges of their papers or to patent their work.

The awardees are expected to work on research projects and could be considered for admission into post-graduate degree / Ph.D Programs subject to fulfilling normal IIT Bombay admission requirements

IIT Bombay Research Fellowship Scheme

* The awardees will be selected based on their academic record and an interview, followed by a written test (if necessary).

* They will be expected to work on research projects for a minimum period of one year in different Departments/ Schools/ Centres/ Inter-disciplinary Programs based on their academic background and research interests.

* The Research Fellowship Scheme is open to B.Tech. / B.E. / M.Tech. / MBA / M.A. / M.Com. / M.Sc. / MBBS or equivalent degree, with or without experience. Students with research inclinations in Humanities, Bio-sectors, Management and with background other than the above can also apply.

* The awardees with B. Tech./B.E. or M.Sc. qualification will be awarded a stipend of Rs. 8,000 - 10,000/- p.m.. Degree holders with experience may be considered for a higher amount.

* Other benefits include funding for participation in national & international conferences, Library facilities, hostel accommodation and working with proven international collaborators (where applicable).

IIT Bombay Summer Internship Scheme

The awardees (who have not completed their degrees) will have an opportunity to work on research projects under the mentorship of faculty members/scientists during their summer vacation. On the completion of their degrees, they could be considered for research Fellowship subject to performance during Summer Internship. The Summer Internship scheme is open to pre-final year B.Tech./ B.E./ M.A./ M.Com/ M.Sc./ M.E./ M.Tech./ MBA/ MBBS or equivalent degree students.

The summer internship scheme is only for pre-final year students. Final year students appearing for their final exam shall apply for Research Fellowship.
Rs. 3000/-p.m. for summer internship (For a maximum of two months).
Other benefits include Library facilities and hostel accommodation.
