IGNOU invites application for the award of IGNOU-Research Fellowship (IGNOU-RF) from full time students of M.Phil/Ph.D programme in IGNOU. The fellowships shall be awarded under following categories :

1. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Fellowship for Male Scholars
2. Savitri Bai Phule Fellowship for Female Scholars

Guidelines regarding eligibility criteria and other terms and conditions related to IGNOU-RF are available on IGNOU website for ready reference.

The objective of the IGNOU-RF scheme is to provide opportunities to research students who have no other financial support
to undertake research leading to M.Phil/Ph.D degree in the disciplines offered by IGNOU.

The Scheme will be available only to those candidates who are already registered and pursuing M.Phil/Ph.D Programme in IGNOU on full time basis.

Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research- JNCASR invites applications for its Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2014, for motivated and talented Indian students in Science and Engineering.

The Centre offers summer fellowships for two months to bright undergraduate and MSc students (renewable for a second year for selected students). This programme has proved to be popular and competitive; each year, about 5000 students from all over India apply for the 120 fellowships awarded. Fifty fellowships are supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, fifteen by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, and the rest by the Centre. Students are placed with research groups at the Centre or with scientists elsewhere in India. They are paid travel expenses and a monthly stipend of Rs. 6000. Selected students get the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, and several summer projects have led to publications in leading journals. Many of the summer students of past years have gone on to pursue graduate studies and a research career, at the JNCASR or at another leading university.

The objective of the Indo-US Research Fellowship Program for Indian Researchers is to introduce scientists and engineers in the early stages of their careers to international collaborative research opportunities, thereby furthering their research capacity and global perspective and forging long-term relationships with scientists, technologists and engineers in USA.

These awards will provide an excellent opportunity to young Indian scientists and technologists of all disciplines, under the age of 40 years to interact with the American scientific community and get first hand information of the developments taking place at the international level and acquaint themselves with new scientific research methods and to collaborate in a larger research project. New research activities at Delhi University

Delhi University (DU) has come up with a range of schemes to boost its research activities. Madan Mohan, dean, research, Delhi University, explains,
“Though funding for research in Indian universities has improved considerably in the last decade or so, there is a dearth of research motivation. This can be attributed to the fact that policies and guidelines for research have not been in tune with the times. Hence DU, as one of the leading universities, is taking initiatives to attract and sustain the best talent in research.”

To encourage research in the domain of biotechnology, medicine and law, DU has introduced a scheme where students with a BTech, LLB or MBBS can directly pursue a PhD. “One does not necessarily have to pursue a Master’s to register for a PhD,” says Mohan. However, to avail of this scheme, a BTech student should have 70 per cent in the final aggregate, coupled with a good Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) percentile score. For LLB students, the qualifying requisite is 60 per cent in the final aggregate.

“Students who meet this criterion will further be interviewed by the university’s Department Research Committee (DRC). Based on its decision, selected candidates can join the PhD programme,” informs Mohan. This scheme, novel to DU, is applicable to students from across universities in India.

Some of the other initiatives include extending university teaching assistanceships to deserving research candidates, introduction of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cell and patent fund to help researchers cope with publication charges of their papers or to patent their work.

* The awardees will be selected based on their academic record and an interview, followed by a written test (if necessary).

* They will be expected to work on research projects for a minimum period of one year in different Departments/ Schools/ Centres/ Inter-disciplinary Programs based on their academic background and research interests.

* The Research Fellowship Scheme is open to B.Tech. / B.E. / M.Tech. / MBA / M.A. / M.Com. / M.Sc. / MBBS or equivalent degree, with or without experience. Students with research inclinations in Humanities, Bio-sectors, Management and with background other than the above can also apply.

* The awardees with B. Tech./B.E. or M.Sc. qualification will be awarded a stipend of Rs. 8,000 - 10,000/- p.m.. Degree holders with experience may be considered for a higher amount.

* Other benefits include funding for participation in national & international conferences, Library facilities, hostel accommodation and working with proven international collaborators (where applicable).

IIT Bombay Summer Internship Scheme

The awardees (who have not completed their degrees) will have an opportunity to work on research projects under the mentorship of faculty members/scientists during their summer vacation. On the completion of their degrees, they could be considered for research Fellowship subject to performance during Summer Internship. The Summer Internship scheme is open to pre-final year B.Tech./ B.E./ M.A./ M.Com/ M.Sc./ M.E./ M.Tech./ MBA/ MBBS or equivalent degree students.

The summer internship scheme is only for pre-final year students. Final year students appearing for their final exam shall apply for Research Fellowship.
Rs. 3000/-p.m. for summer internship (For a maximum of two months).
Other benefits include Library facilities and hostel accommodation.
