Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) invites applications for Admissions to B.A. (Hons.) in Social Work with Specialisation in Rural Development for 2008–2011 Session
The B.A. (Hons.) in Social Work, with Specialisation in Rural Development, programme aims to build commitment and competency in facilitating participatory change and transformation in rural areas at the level of individuals, groups and communities; in government and non-government organisations (NGOs); and in law and policy. The programme is expected to shape personnel competent to develop and implement rural development programmes independently.
Duration
The duration of this Bachelor's Degree Programme is for 3 academic years. However, students may complete the formal requirements of credit hours over 6 years from the date of admission to the programme.
Eligibility to Apply
(a) The applicants who have passed the Higher Secondary Examination, 10+2 or its equivalent (HSC/PUC/Pre-Degree) course with minimum aggregate marks of 50% (40% for SCs/STs) are eligible to apply to the Bachelor's Degree Programme. The candidates should produce all the relevant documents in original at the time of admission preliminaries.
(b) The applicants who have appeared in their Higher Secondary Examination, 10+2 or its equivalent (HSC/PUC/ Pre-Degree) and are awaiting their results will also be eligible to apply. In such cases, admission to the Bachelor's Degree Programme of the SRD shall be provisional. If a provisionally admitted student fails in the Higher Secondary Examination, 10+2 or its equivalent (HSC/PUC/Pre-Degree) course or secures less than required marks, as mentioned above, the offer of provisional admission will be automatically cancelled. All admissions to Bachelor’s Degree Programme of SRD are considered to be provisional.
How to Obtain the Application Form
The last date for issue of the Application Form by post is May 02, 2008, and in person is May 12, 2008. The prescribed Application Forms can be obtained:
By sending a request letter to the Assistant Administrative Officer of the TISS, Mumbai (postal address: Tata Institute of Social Sciences, V.N. Purav Marg, Deonar, Mumbai - 400 088, INDIA) along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 550/- drawn in favour of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, payable at Mumbai; or
By sending a request letter to the Administrative Officer of the TISS, Tuljapur (postal address: School of Rural Development, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Post Box 09, Tuljapur – 413 601, District - Osmanabad, Maharashtra, INDIA), along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 550/-, drawn from State Bank of India in favour of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Tuljapur, payable at Tuljapur; or
By downloading the Application Form from the TISS Website: www.tiss.edu (please note that while submitting the downloaded Application Form, it should be accompanied by a Demand Draft for Rs. 500/- per form, towards the application processing fee); or
From the Cash Counter either of the SRD, TISS, Tuljapur or TISS, Deonar, Mumbai on cash payment of Rs. 500/-. (Cash Timings: Monday to Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. andSaturdays from 10.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.)
SC and ST candidates need not pay for the Application Form and Information Brochure, if they are unemployed and the income of their parents/guardians was Rupees One lakh or below, during the financial year 2007-2008. However, they will be required either to (i) download the Application Form from the Institute Website and at the time of submission of the Application Form, enclose a true copy of Caste/Tribe and
Income Certificate or (ii) send their request letter to either the Administrative Office (TISS, Tuljapur), or to the Assistant Administrative Officer, TISS, Mumbai, enclosing the following documents for obtaining the Application Form:
i) A photocopy of the Caste/Tribe Certificate issued in the candidate’s name by a village revenue officer or a
Tehsildar.
ii) A copy of the Income Certificate (for the year 2007–2008) of the candidate's parents/guardian issued by the
employer or by any appropriate authority.
Submission of Duly Filled-in Application Form
(a) Candidates who have filled in the downloaded Application Form should send a demand draft for Rs. 500/- drawn in favour of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, payable at Mumbai along with the Application Form towards application processing fee.
(b) Candidates should write their name, address, telephone no. (along with STD code), etc., on the reverse of the Bank Draft, at the time of submitting the completed form.
(c) Candidates can send their duly filled-in Application Forms through Registered Post/Speed Post/Courier. The
application should be addressed to the Assistant Administrative Officer, Academic Section, Tata Institute of
Social Sciences, V.N. Purav Marg, Deonar, Mumbai 400 088.
(d)Candidates can also submit their applications personally to the Academic Section, TISS, Mumbai, against proper receipt. The Institute will not be responsible for the applications delivered to any other functionary of theInstitute.
(e) The last date for receiving the Application Forms, complete in all respects, by hand or by post, at TISS, Mumbai is May 12, 2008, upto 4.30 p.m. The last date for receiving applications sent BY POST from remote areas/regions (that is, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Lahaul and Spiti district, Pangi sub-division of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep Islands) and for international students, is May 19, 2008.
Candidates who are claiming the benefit of extended time should clearly indicate in their forwarding letter, along with the Application Form, the name of the particular area or region (for example, Assam, Meghalaya, Jammu & Kashmir, etc.) from where they have posted their application. In case they fail to do so, the benefit of extended time will not be granted. In the case of Application Forms received by hand or through courier services of any type, the benefit of extended time will NOT be granted, regardless of the place of residence of the applicant
(f) Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, or OBC categories, candidates with disability, and Kashmiri Migrants must attach the relevant certificate issued by a competent authority.
Candidates should clearly note that the Institute will in no case be responsible for non-receipt of their applications or any delay in receipt thereof on any account whatsoever. They should, therefore, ensure that their applications reach the Institute on or before the prescribed last date.
The Selection will be based on Written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview
The Written Test will be conducted on Sunday, June 08, 2008, at 13 different centres in the country — Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhubaneswar (Orissa), Guwahati (Assam), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Kolkata (West Bengal), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Mumbai (Maharashtra), Nagpur (Maharashtra), New Delhi (Delhi), Patna (Bihar), Raipur (Chattisgarh), Ranchi (Jharkhand) and Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir). The exact date and venue will be mentioned in the admit card of the candidate. The TISS reserves the right to change the venue and test centres without citing any reasons thereof. The Group Discussion and Personal Interview will be conducted on June 28–29, 2008 at TISS, Mumbai.
