IGNOU has started the Academic Counsellors' Training–Online (ACT-Online), an online capacity development programme for teachers covering topics like evaluation of assignments, development of study skills and usage of new technologies for student support.

The programme is specifically for those who are engaged in or wish to be engaged in the task of providing tutoring/counselling and other technology-mediated support to the distance learners. The ACT-Online is grounded in both the theory and practice of Open Distance Learning (ODL). Some of the important topics covered under this programme are: ODL concept, models, development, student support, tutoring and counselling, importance of assignments, evaluation of assignment responses, development of study skills and self-learning, support to the educational disadvantaged students and the use of new technologies for student support.

CEC E-Course on Editing for Films & Television

Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) India, is launching a Worldwide e-Course on Editing for Films and Television. The registration for the course starts on 15th November 2010. The course will commence on 3rd January, 2011 and will be completed by 18th February, 2011. About 72 hour of classroom teaching have been condensed into about 13 hours of video programmes in 25 episodes of half an hour duration each. There will be seven live interactive sessions with the subject expert to clarify queries of the participants.

Basically designed for film and video editors, this course aspired to give an insight into the art and craft of editing. It will familiarize the participants with a range of activities required for telling a story through visuals and sound. Along the way it touches upon several issues connected with editing, right from its basic concepts to the technical aspects of electronic editing on linear and non-linear platform.

The Institute of Foreign Policy Studies, Calcutta University invites applications for the two year M.Phil course in Foreign Policy Studies for the session 2010- 2012.
Each selected student shall receive a fellowship of Rs. 6000/- per month during the period of the course.

Any candidate who has passed the M.A./M.Sc./M.Com or equivalent examination of this University with 55% marks in aggregate (SC/ST with 50% marks) or with 60% marks in aggregate of any other recognised University. Students who are taking M.A. Part-II examination may also apply provisionally and sit for the admission test but their final admission would depend on passing the examination obtaining the required marks mentioned above.

IGNOU announced admission to Post-Graduate Certificate in Oral Implantology (PGCOI) and Post Graduate Certificate in Endodontics (PGCE). IGNOU, in collaboration with the Dental Council of India, has developed two Post-Graduate Certificate programmes for BDS Graduates.

These programmes are essentially a judicious mix of theoretical and practical courses. They enhance the knowledge and skills in the field of Oral Implantology and Endodontics, respectively. The programmes are approved by the DCI. The practical skills are imparted through selected DCI recognized dental colleges all over the country.

The Eligibility for admission to the Openden-III is Registered BDS Doctors after completion of internship. The degree should be recognized by Dental Council of India.The selection will be done on the basis of a combined entrance test for the two programmes after applying the reservation as per Govt. of India rules.

The minimum Duration is one year and maximum duration is three years of this programme, the Medium of instruction is English and there is no maximum age limit.

* B.Ed. Special Education in Hearing Impairment; Visual Impairment; and Mental Retardation.
Eligibility for admission to B.Ed. Special Education is Bachelor's degree from any recognised University. A weightage of 10 marks will be given to parents of children with disability, persons with disability or persons possessing any RCI recognised qualification. The minimum duration for completion of B.Ed. Special Education is two years and maximum is five years.

* M.Ed. Special Education in Hearing Impairment (MEDSEHM), Learning Disability (MEDSELD), Visual Impairment (MEDSEVI) and Mental Retardation (MEDSEMR).
Eligibility for admission to M.Ed. Special Education is B.Ed. Special Education or equivalent degree approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) with an aggregate of 50% marks and two years of teaching/professional experience. The minimum duration for completion of M.Ed. Special Education is two years and maximum is four years.

The medium of instruction is English and there is no age bar for any of the Programmes.

Selection will be done on the basis of an entrance test and weightage as applicable. The reservation policy will be applicable as per Govt. of India rules. A Study Centre-wise merit list will be prepared.

IGNOU, French Embassy and University Stendhal, Grenoble III, France have signed an MoU to start Teaching of French as a Methodology Course in the B.Ed. Programme of IGNOU.

The main objective of this MoU is to design and develop the following academic programmes for the development of human resources: Teaching of French as a Methodology Course in the B.Ed. programme of IGNOU; Certificat d’Enseignement de Français Langue Etrangère [CEFLE] and Diplôme d’Enseignement de Français Langue Etrangère [DEFLE].

French Embassy will fund the Orientation Programme for the course writers for developing the Self-Learning Materials.

IGNOU would conduct expert committee meetings for the French methodology course in the B.Ed. Programme, CEFLE and DEFLE Programmes in collaboration with the French Embassy.

IGNOU will have complete copyright over all pedagogical study material produced for B.Ed programme, CEFLE and DEFLE programmes (Print, Audio, Audio Visual etc.) for use in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.

The programmes aim to to enhance knowledge and skill among the students in the field of French language, literature and culture studies.

This could also earn you a PG Diploma or credit towards pursuing M.Tech./.Phill./Ph.D from Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed to be university, provided yuor performance is above a specified threshold. DGFS Fellows will get opportunities for pusuing Ph.D. Through HBNI after completion of M.Tech.

DBT Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award - IYBA 2010

Identifying and nurturing outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and desire to pursue research in frontier areas of biotechnology. It is awarded by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India, Ministry of Science and Technology. The award will consist of financial support for a project and cash award / fellowship for the awardees. Awardees having regular employment will receive a cash award of Rs.1 lakh every year during the course of the project in addition to grant-in aid of about Rs.50 lakhs for a project. Awardees not in regular employment, will receive a fellowship of Rs.40,000 per month and shall be attached to a senior scientist (mentor) in a university / research institute, medical / agriculture / veterinary college or any other institute of repute.

In order to provide opportunities to teachers and others to obtain training and for carrying out science education projects, this Centre is offering a post graduate diploma programme in science education. Some of the aspects covered in the proposed programme would be courses related to subject content, laboratory experiments, research experience and experience in education technology. The training will be provided through projects and few formal courses. The programme will be for one year (for full time students) at the end of which they will be given a post - graduate diploma in science education. The programme will take two years for teachers in service who do this on a part time basis.

Indian Navy Commercial Diving Course 2011

Conducted by Indian Navy at Diving School,Kochi commencing from Jan 31, 2011
(recognized by International Marine Contractor's Association)

Duration : Ten weeks duration prior to which one week of screening will be conducted.

Eligibility : Male Indian citizens more than 18years of age and less than 28 years of age as on Jan 01, 2011 passed class 12 exam secured 50 percent or more in matriculation; fluent in Hindi and in English. Candidates should be a good swimmer with a good physical stamina; medical certificate to be attached.

Focus of the course : The course will be conducted on the lines of HSE (Health and Safety Executives UK) Part I qualification and the course is termed IDS ( Indian Diving Standard) - I. Individuals qualifying the course will be certified to work upto a depth of 50 meters using air diving equipment. The IDS - I course has been recognised by IMCA, an international consultancy agency on all offshore marine and diving activities.

Selection : Candidates have to qualify aptitude test for diving and physical fitness. The purpose is to assess candidates suitability for diving. Candidates who qualify the aptitude test will undergo screening comprising entry level knowledge test, waterborne activity, diving aptitude and physical proficiency test in swimming and physical fitness. Candidates are advised / cautioned not to undertake unaided breath hold diving for the purpose of preparing of the course.

The Institute invites applications from post graduate candidates for admission to the Ph.D programme in Biological Sciences starting from January, 2011. IBSD is an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India with excellent research facilities for sustainable development of bioresources using tools of modern biology. Broad area of research at the Institute is Plant Bioresources and Microbial Bioresources. Eligibility :
Candidates shall be eligible for registration in an ongoing programme of research in IBSD leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), if he or she has obtained 55% marks in aggregate (B or B+ only in the 10 point scale) in the Master's Degree Examination.
A candidate belonging to SC/ST who has obtained 50% marks in aggregate in Master Degree examination shall be eligible for registration

Selection Procedure :
If number of CSIR UGC NET / DBT JRF / ICMR JRF / ICAR JRF qualified applicants are more than the available PhD Postions selection will be based on only interview with the NET/JRF qualified candidates.
In case sufficient NET / JRF qualified applicants are not available shortlisted candidates (without NET/JRF but good academic records) may be called to appear for a written entrance test on 9th Dec, 2010 at IBSD at their own expenses.
Institute's written test qualified and or NET JRF qualified candidates shall be informed on same day to appear for an interview on 10th Dec, 2010 at IBSD, Imphal.
Selected candidates will be informed to join the Ph.D programme of IBSD within a week time from the date of announcement of result.

AIPMT 2011 Application Process

All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination (AIPMT) 2011 to be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education,CBSE Delhi as per the following schedule for admission to 15% of the total seats for Medical/Dental Courses in all Medical/Dental Colleges run by the Union of India, State Governments, Municipal and other local authorities in India except in the States of ANDHRAPRADESH and JAMMU & KASHMIR

Schedule of AIPMT 2011

1. Preliminary Examination-3rd April,2011 (Sunday)
2. Final Examination -15th May, 2011 (Sunday)


Both Preliminary and Final Examination would be Objective type.


(i) He/She has completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31 * December of the year of his/her admission to the 1" yearM.B.B.S./B.D.S. course and is an INDIAN NATIONAL.

(ii) The upper age limit for All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Examination is 25 years as on 31* December of the year of the entrance examination. Further provided that upper age limit shall be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes.

(iii) The candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio- technology at the qualifying examination. In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology taken together in qualifying examination be 40% instead of 50% for General Candidates. Further, for persons for locomotory disability of lower limbs, the minimum of 45% marks for General-PH and 40% marks for SC-PH/ ST-PH/OBC-PH are required.

Those who are taking plus two examination in 2011 can also appear for the entrance test provisionally subject to their fulfilling the conditions later.


15% seats for SC candidates, 7.5% seats for ST candidates, 27% seats for non-creamy layer OBC candidates in Central Institutions only and 3% seats on horizontal basis for Physically Handicapped candidates are reserved in 15% All India Quota for MBBS/BDS courses.


(i) Online application procedure for AIPMT 2011
Online submission of application maybe made by accessing the Board's website from 15.11.2010 (10.00 A.M.) to 31.12.2010 (5.00 P.M.). Instructions for sending online application, payment of fee and computer generated printout are available on website. Candidates submitting on-line application have been given exemption of Rs. 100/- in the examination fee irrespective of their category.

Accordingly, fee of Rs. 700/- for General/OBC Category Candidates and Rs. 350/- for SC/ST Category Candidates may be remitted in the following ways:
1. By Credit Card, or
2. Through Demand Draft in favour of Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi drawn on any Nationalized Bank payable at Delhi.

(ii) Offline application procedure for AIPMT 2011
Offline submission of Application may be made on the prescribed Application Form. The Information Bulletin and Application Form costing Rs.800/- for General/OBC Category and Rs.450/- for SC/ST category can be obtained against Cash Payment from the designated branches of Canara Bank/Regional Offices of the CBSE between 13.12.2010 to 31.12.2010.

Information Bulletin and Application Form can also be obtained by Post from the Board by sending a written request with a Demand Draft for Rs.850/- for General/OBC Category and Rs.500/- for SC/ST Category payable to the Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi along with a Self Addressed Envelope of size 12" x 10". The request must reach to the Board on or before 24.12.2010. The request should be superscribed as "Request for Information Bulletin and Application Form for AIPMT-2011".

DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN ARCHITECTURE AND PLANNING The doctoral program at the school is conceived to encourage independent and interdisciplinary research that has relevant to the present needs of social, cultural and environmental sustenance. To keep pace with the expanding horizons of knowledge, the program provides a research environment that has strong theoretical foundation and direct application to develop solutions that focus on issues relating to settlements and habitat.

1. Regular full-time scholars with fellowship or project support.
2. Govt./Semi Govt. Fellowship/Scholarship awardees.
3. Self –financed (Indian/Foreign/ Study Leave).
Program requires at least one year of residency period at the institute for all candidates.

ELIGIBILITY: Master Degree in Architecture/ Planning or equivalent degree with a good academic record.

FELLOWSHIP FOR DOCTORAL PROGRAM 1. The school has provision for Doctoral fellowship for full-time candidates. 2. To be considered for fellowship a candidate should have, a valid Gate Score or Govt./Non Govt. Fellowship/Scholarship. 3. Candidates not having a valid Gate score or Govt./Non Govt. Fellowship/Scholarship can be considered for award of Fellowship if they have minimum of two year of work experience after acquiring Post Graduate Degree.

THE HINDU invites applications for Scholarship for technical training in association with Hitachi Ltd., Tokyo,JAPAN. The number of Scholarships will be three. The terms and conditions are as follows:

1. Candidates who must be Indian Citizens, should not have completed 30 years of age on 31.03.2011 and should be in possession of the minimum Degree of B.E., or B.Sc.,(Engg.) or its equivalent from any recognised university. Candidates who have already had practical experience in the branches for which training is proposed to be given, will be given preference. Candidates with at least one year's professional experience need apply. Those who were interviewed with previous years for the Scholarships need not apply again.

2.The Scholarships are tenable in Japan for principally six months commencing about July 2011. Trainees may have general training in one of the following product fields of Hitachi Ltd., (Hitachi) for Example (1) Industrial Systems (2) Transportation Systems (3) Power Systems (4) Information and Telecommunication Systems being subject to the convenience of each of Hitachi's establishments. During the training, there will be special emphasis on environment-related and energy-saving technologies.

3. Trainees shall be, during their training,under the supervision and direction of Hitachi, which has full discretion on scope,mode,duration and place of establishment of their training.Training will not be available in the R&D activities of Hitachi.They will be subject to the rules and regulations and the discipline of the establishment to which they are posted.

4. Selected trainees will be provided with return Economy Class air passage.Arrangements will also be made for free Boarding and Lodging for trainees in Japan, and to defray all expenses for travelling in Japan which may be considered necessary for their training. In addition, each trainee will be paid a monthly fixed allowance to cover his personal expenses.

5. Parents or guardians of selected candidates shall guarantee their good conduct and shall undertake to pay for their repatriation should their conduct be found unsatisfactory by Hitachi Ltd., or any, public authority in Japan or in case the selected candidates desire to discontinue their studies in Japan for any reason whatsoever during the period of their scholarships.
