UGC Emeritus Fellowship 2012-2013

The University Grants Commission floated the Scheme of “Emeritus Fellowship” in order to provide an opportunity to the superannuated teachers of universities, colleges and institutions.

University Grants Commission invites applications for award of Emeritus Fellowship for the year 2012-2013 against 119 slots. The scheme provides an opportunity to superannuated teachers upto 70 years of age or upto two years (non-extendable) of the
award whichever is earlier of universities, colleges and institutions approved under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act who have been actively engaged in research and teaching programmes in the preceding years to undertake research, without any restriction of position or pay scales.

The guidelines of the scheme, detailed terms and conditions of the fellowship, eligibility, reservations etc. may be seen by logging in the UGC website.

INSA Medal for Young Scientists with the aim of recognizing young scientists of extraordinary promise and creativity who have made notable research contributions in Science and Technology. This award, considered to be the highest recognition of promise, creativity and excellence in a young scientist, is made annually to those distinguished for these attributes as evidenced by their research work carried out in India. Only those born on or after January 1, 1978 are eligible for consideration in the year 2013.

The awardee shall receive a certificate‚ a bronze medal, cash award of Rs. 25,000/- and seed amount to initiate research project and further scope for overseas training for advancement of career.

A candidate may be proposed by a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy or by earlier recipients of this award. Scientific societies of national standing, university faculty, post-graduate department or research institutions may also make nominations of eligible candidates.

Times Scholars is an initiative by the Times of India to recognize and reward the brightest young minds in the country.

The top 20 Times Scholars will get a cash scholarship of Rs. 5,00,000 each. The amount will be transferred to the parent/guardian’s bank account in four annual instalments.

80 students will be given Rs. 5,000 each as a special mention scholarship.

The programme envisages creation of a cadre of the very brightest young minds in India, who will receive financial support, exposure and opportunity to rise to the pinnacle of scholastic achievement. Open to students in Class XII, it will select 20 Times Scholars each year, on the basis of their overall mental development. The process is simple and demands little time commitment, something we felt was key since applicants are in their crucial final year of school.

Programme Objectives:
The major objectives of the programme are to:

Dairy; Fruits and Vegetables; Meat, fish and poultry; and Cereal, pulses and oilseeds. The learners will also have to attend 1 month hands-on training in food industry.

The purpose of the NTSE scheme was to identify talented students and nurture their talent. Talent refers to the potentiality that manifests itself in a high level of performance in one or more specialized areas. The scheme, therefore, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship. For the courses in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D. level. For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law this assistance is given only up to Post Graduation.

IGNOU PGD in Book Publishing Admissions 2012

IGNOU offers admission in Post Graduate Diploma in Book Publishing (PGDBP). The programme is meant to provide an opportunity for self employment to aspiring/ practicing publishing professionals for skill upgradation/ skill acquisition in various aspects of publishing.

The unique aspect of the programme is the month long training/ apprenticeship at a publishing house which carries a small stipend and the possibility of employment thereafter. The training is under the auspices of the Federation of Indian Publishers with whom IGNOU has a tie-up and trainees would get a Joint Certificate from both IGNOU and the FIB on successful completion of the training.

The programme consists of eight courses namely, Introduction to Publishing and its Legal Aspects, Editing and Pre-Press, Production and Emerging Technologies, Marketing, Promotion and Distribution of Books, Editing Books for Children, Editing Scientific, Technical and Medical Books, Editing Text Books and lastly there is an apprenticeship/ training programme which is compulsory.

In the training programme, learners would be attached to a publishing house and do a project for which they would be evaluated and awarded a separate ‘Certificate of Completion’.

The last date to submit the application form for the programme is 14th August 2012 with late fee of Rs.200. Student handbook and prospectus is available in all the regional centres of the university as well as in the university’s headquarters which can be purchased for Rs.100 and submitted along with the requisite fee in the form of a demand draft to the concerned regional centre.

Established in 1969 as an autonomous institution by the Reserve Bank of India in consultation with the Govt. of India, NIBM is the apex institution in banking and finance. The candidate must hold the bachelor's degree with atleast 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. Students completing their degree examination by June, 2013 may also apply. Refer to the website for complete details regarding eligibility criteria.

Candidates seeking admission to the PGPBF of NIBM should appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) by IIMs as a pre-requisite. The CAT registration will be held from July 30 to September 19,2012. After obtaining CAT 2012 vouchers and registering for CAT, the candidate should apply to NIBM by filling NIBM's application form and furnish CAT Reg. No.

Candidates short-listed on the basis of CAT scores will be called for Group Discussion and interview for final selection during Feb - March 2013.
CAT score is used for short-listing candidates who apply for admission to NIBM. IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the programme.

ISB PGPMAX Senior Executive Programme 2013

The PGPMAX programme is designed on a schedule that minimises disruption of work and personal pursuits.

Participants will typically be on campus for a 7 day schedule of classroom learning once every 6th week. PGPMAX is a rigorous and challenging programme. The schedule will include full days of teaching and evenings will be used for guest lectures, projects, and group work. Participants will be required to stay on campus during those 7 days.

The PGPMAX programme includes an international immersion component, involving one or more of various interventions like cultural visits, country experience, classroom teaching, industry visits and top management interaction. In the past, these international immersions have taken place in Brazil and the USA with teaching happening at FDC (Brazil), Kellogg School of Management and the Wharton School. Locations for international immersion may change and will be informed to the participant at the start of the programme.

During the international immersion component of the programme, participants may have extended terms of 2 weeks. This is to derive full benefit of the visits abroad and to reduce travel expenses.

This programme format allows them to continue working and attend a programme that is equal in rigour and content to an Executive MBA programme.

Fulbright-Nehru Environmental Leadership fellowships are designed for mid-level Indian environment professionals in public/private sector or non-governmental organizations for up to four months. The program will combine short-term practical training/internship with opportunities for networking with American counterpart organizations. Selected fellows will be placed at US environmental public/private or non-governmental organizations, academic institutions or research centers and environment related government agencies. IIM Kozhikode -IIMK has launched a new satellite campus at Kochi with executive education as the focus.

The Kochi campus will emphasise on executive education with full time and part time programmes for middle and senior level executives.

AICTE has launched the National level Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) for facilitating institutions to select suitable students for admission in all management programmes approved by AICTE since 2012-13.

* AICTE has now decided to conduct CMAT twice a year.

* The notification is issued to announce the schedule for conducting first Test of Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) for admission for academic year 2013-14.

* The students will be eligible to appear in both the exam and best of the two scores will be used for admission for 2013-14.
