IITs to Introduce New Courses

Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) will soon introduce new courses in medicine, humanities and design among others.

IIT Kharagpur (IIT- Kgp) has invited private partners for setting up a super speciality hospital in its premises this year.

The institute is planning to initiate a MBBS programme once the hospital starts functioning.

The institute has been venturing into different disciplines like opening a law school dealing with property rights as well.

IIT, Guwahati (IIT-G) has stepped into humanities by introducing masters' programme in development studies from this academic year.

It will comprise of six subjects - Economics, English & Linguistics, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology & History and Archeology.

Although, all IITs offer humanities department and offer electives to engineering students, but there are very few full-fledged undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

IIT, Kanpur (IIT-K) and IIT-Kgp offer an integrated M.Sc in Economics and research programmes in humanities.

The Yash Pal committee setup by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) had recommended in its report that IITs should become full-fledged universities and also offer broad-based university curriculum on the lines of Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

IIT, Delhi (IIT-D) is planning to introduce two-year MA programme in development and cultural studies.

IIT, Bombay (IIT- B) offers PhD programmes in humanities.

IIT, Madras started a five-year integrated MA program in English, Economics and development studies in 2006.

CSIR Diamond Jubilee Invention Award-CDJIA 2009

CSIR DIAMOND JUBILEE INVENTION AWARD FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN (CDJIA-2009)

Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) is the premier Industrial R&D Organisation in India. On the occasion of its Diamond Jubilee in 2002, CSIR initiated Invention Awards for school children to create awareness, interest and motivation for Intellectual Property amongst children.
On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day which is celebrated through out the world on 26th April, CSIR invites applications for the ‘Eighth CSIR Diamond Jubilee Invention Award(CDJIA) for School Children-2009’. The first prize winner would also become eligible for WIPO’s Young Inventor’s Award carrying a medal and a certificate.
Applicant must provide the details of the invention submitted for the award in not more than 5000 words in English/Hindi including an abstract (in not more than 100 words), authenticated (by giving seal and date) and sent through the Principal/ Head of the School where the student is enrolled and personal details on a separate page as follows:
Name, date of birth, school and residential address, class, telephone no. (residence/school), email address.
In case of proposals already selected for state, national, international or equivalent awards, only the subject matter covering the improvements need to be submitted for consideration of CDJIA- 2009. Published inventions would be considered as per the provisions of the Patent Act.
The applications for the award not exceeding 5000 words in English/Hindi with requisite drawings will be considered. The write-up must describe the subject matter in a problem-solution mode and highlighting the novel and non-obviousness feature of the invention and its advantages.
Any Indian student enrolled in an Indian school below the age of 18 years as on 31st July 2009 can apply.
The invention submitted should be one that is globally novel, non-obvious and utilitarian. It could be a new concept or idea or a solution to an existing problem or completely a new method/process/ device/ utility. It is not essential/ necessary that the invention should have been worked, only the concept of the invention should have been proved through a model, a prototype or experimental data. Details of any assistance/ guidance provided by teachers/parents/friends or others must be appropriately mentioned and acknowledged.
Typed applications to be sent by Registered Post/Courier to: Head, Intellectual Property Management Division, CSIR, NISCAIR Building, 14 Satsang Vihar Marg, Special Institutional Area, New Delhi - 110 067 with the envelope marked on top left hand corner 'CDJIA-2009'. You may also send application through email addressed to head.ipmd@niscair.res.in. However, a hard copy should also follow through post with Principal’s authentication.
Applications received on or before 31st October 2009 will be considered for the Award.
Prizes : There are in all 60 prizes. Besides a certificate, the cash awards are:

Second Prize (2 Nos.) Rs. 25,000/- each
Third Prize (3 Nos.) Rs. 15,000/- each

TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world, Trieste (Italy) – offers fellowships to scientists from developing countries who wish to pursue postgraduate studies or postdoctoral research in India.
TWAS is an autonomous international organization founded in Trieste, Italy, in 1983. TWAS represents the best of science in the developing world. Its principal aim is to promote scientific capacity and excellence for sustainable development in the South. Since 1986, TWAS has been supporting scientists and institutions in
developing countries through a wide range of programmes that focus on scientific capacity building largely through South-South cooperation.
The administration and financial operation of TWAS is undertaken by UNESCO in accordance with an agreement signed by the two organizations.
TWAS fellowships in India are offered in collaboration with four programme partners, including:
* Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR);
* Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology;
* Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS)
* S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences.
The main eligibility criteria to apply for the TWAS Fellowships in India are:
• Be a maximum age of 30 (postgraduate) or 40 years (postdoctoral). In the case of fellowships offered through CSIR the age limits are 35 (postgraduate) and 45 years (postdoctoral)
• Hold a master's degree (postgraduate) or PhD (postdoctoral) in the natural sciences

British Council Debating Matters Competition 2009

Debating Matters is an exciting new national debate that has been initiated by the British Council, in partnership with the Institute of Ideas of London, as part of its Intercultural Dialogue Project. It is a debating competition with a difference for students. In India the competition is for Class XI and XII students only. Debating Matters is a very successful debate competition in the UK, pioneered by the Institute of Ideas and supported by Wellcome Trust, in the UK and in India.

Institute of Ideas is the principal partner of the British Council in India, while the Wellcome Trust, the world’s largest medical research organisation, has extended their support for the competition in India this year.

The format for Debating Matters is rigorous and competitive with a strong emphasis on students researching their arguments well. Debating Matters seeks to encourage students to engage with the specifics and complexities of issues that arise in the real world today. A unique aspect of the competition has been to involve high-calibre professionals from all walks of life – academics, journalists, business people, scientists and artists – in the judging of the competition.

Debating Matters is an innovative and challenging way for students to engage with their peers and learn more about the world they live in through research and debate in real time topics.

RUHS Pharmacy Courses Admissions 2009

Rajasthan University of Health Science (RUHS) will now give admission in pharmacy courses on the basis of marks obtained in XII exams from this year. The decision to abolish pre-pharmacy test is taken in a meeting held in presence of Dean, faculty of Pharmacy and officials of central admission committee.

The central admission committee will ask to fill option form for taking admission in degree or diploma in pharmacy. For getting admission in both the courses the candidate must have physics, chemistry with either biology, Maths, computer science or biotechnology in XII.

The minimum age of the student should be 17 years on December 31, 2009.

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana-KVPY 2009 IISc

The "Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana" () is a program started during 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to encourage students of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to take up research careers in these areas. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented students with aptitude for research.

This program strives to assist the students to realises their potential and to ensure that the best scientific talent is developed for research and growth in the country. Generous scholarship and contingency grant is provided (up to the Pre-Ph.D. level) to the selected students.

ELIGIBILITY
These Fellowships are only for Indian Nationals studying in India.

The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, offers attractive fellowships (Rs. 4000 to Rs. 7000 p.m) and contingency grants (Four months fellowship p.a) for students studying in Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. Selection to the program takes into account academic excellence and demonstrated interest in pursuing research career. Selection procedures are different for Basic Sciences, SP (Engineering) and SP (Medicine) and SP(Basic Sciences). All of them, however, include an interview for final selection.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Basic Sciences (SA and SB)

After scrutiny of application forms and based on the performance in the Board Examination, all the eligible candidates from Streams SA and SB will be called for a written aptitude test (multiple choice). The test will be conducted at different centers across the country on 1st November 2009 (First Sunday). The details of the venue of the aptitude tests will be put on to the KVPY website in October 2009. Based on the performance in the aptitude test candidates will be called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

SP (Basic Sciences); SP (Engineering) and SP (Medicine)

KVPY applicant is required to submit the project report, chosen and executed by the candidate exclusively for this application. The projects done jointly with other candidates are not considered for KVPY Fellowship award. Applicant’s creativity and originality should be amply reflected in the project. This project has to be supervised by a teacher/professional in the relevant field. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted either at IISc, Bangalore or IIT-Bombay, Mumbai or ICMR, New Delhi during the month of December 2009 or January 2010.

Please Note that applications without the project report will not be considered. The project should not be a routine one (such as measuring well known property of materials etc.) The supervising teacher / professional is required to provide a recommendation letter certifying the extent of the applicant’s original contribution to the project.

Hard copy of the application form can be obtained from KVPY on request by sending a processing fee of Rs. 200/- (Rs. 100/- for SC/ST) by means of remitting Rs. 200 (Rs. 100/- for SC/ST) “to any core banking branches of STATE BANK OF INDIA, payable at all branches in India. Paid into the credit of Administrative Executive, KVPY A/c. No. 10270577392” and send the “pay-in-slip” along with the request, clearly indicating the stream (i.e.SA, SB, SP etc.) on the envelope

e. The SC/ST – candidates should provide a copy of the caste certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed proforma.

Indira Gandhi National Open University-IGNOU has started a certificate course in diabetes care.
The six-month Certificate Programme in Diabetes Care for Community Workers has been developed to build up a workforce to work in diabetic clinics, health centres at community level and in hospital diabetic clinics. The first session will start by July end.

The Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi has set up the National Accreditation Committee for Open and Distance Learning (NACODL) to accreditate institutions offering education through distance mode in India on the lines of conventional universities.

DEC is the statutory body responsible for the promotion and coordination of the Open University and distance education system.

DEC's call for accreditation is also an attempt to restore the parity between distance and conventional degrees.

Distance learning is considered as inferior to class room learning by various students, academicians and employers.

Infrastructure and human resources, student support system, relevance of programmes, employment opportunities, research and consultancy and governance will be assessed during the accreditation by NACODL.

NACODL has academicians and administrators from various distance and open learning institutes and government officials as their members.

National Talent Search Exam-NTS 2009/2010

National Talent Search Scheme is a flagship activity of the NCERT.The purpose of the scheme was to identify talented students and nurture their talent. Talent refers to the potentiality that manifests itself in a high level of performance in one or more specialized areas. The scheme, therefore, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship. For the courses in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D. level. For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law this assistance is given only up to Post Graduation. From the selection year 2010, the NCERT will conduct the National Talent Search Examination for students studying in Class VIII only.

Scholarships: On the basis of the examination conducted, 1000 scholarships will be awarded for each group of students appearing for Class VIII examinations. The amount of scholarship will be Rs.500/- per month as per NTS rules.

Reservation: 15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for Physically Challenged Group of Students each in respect of the class VIII.

Selection: There will be two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For Stage-I, selection will be done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students who qualify Stage I will be eligible to appear for Stage II examination conducted by NCERT.

The States/UTs will also conduct the selection test for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship
Scheme along with the Stage-I written examination for NTS.

Examination: The pattern of written examination for Class VIII will be as follows:

• Stage I examination at the State/UT level will comprise two parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics.

• Stage II examination at the National level will comprise (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT), (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics, (c) Interview. Only those candidates who qualify the written examination at the National Level will be invited for interview.

State Quotas: Each State/Union Territory has been allotted a quota to recommend a specific number of candidates for the Stage II examination, the details of which will be made available on NCERT website. However, there will be no State/Union Territory Quota for the final award of scholarship after the Stage II examination. Reservation for SC, ST and physically challenged will be as notified in para 2 above.

Application Form: You may contact the State/UT Liaison officer for procuring application form. However, application form can be downloaded from NCERT website also. All correspondence relating to application forms should be addressed to the State Liaison Officers (LOs) whose addresses are given at the end/Website

The completed application form duly signed by Principal of the school should be submitted to the LO/ concerned district official of the State before the last date.

Fees: States and Union Territories may notify the fee required (refer NCERT website) which will be paid for the Stage-I examination. However, NCERT does not charge any fee for the Stage-II examination.

Announcement of Results: Results of the Stage-I examination will be announced by the respective State Governments/ Union Territories. Results of Stage-II examination will be announced by NCERT.

Indian Students Studying Abroad can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examination under conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure for class VIII which is available on the NCERT website. Candidates may fill up relevant items of the Application Form available on the NCERT website and send to the undersigned along with a photocopy of the mark sheet of previous examination latest by March 15, 2010.

Government of India Scholarship For Deprived Students

Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)Government of India has launched a scholarship programme to provide financial assistance to deprived students

The scholarship has been named as 'Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students'.

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the results of senior secondary examination. 82000 fresh scholarships per annum [41000 for boys and 41000 for girls will be awarded for graduate / postgraduate studies in colleges and universities and for professional courses, such as Medical, Engineering etc.

The total number of scholarships will be divided amongst the State Boards based on the State's population in the age group of 18-25 years, after segregating share of CBSE and ICSE on the basis of number of students passing out from various Boards in the country. 50pc of the scholarships would be earmarked for girls.

Students will be given an amount of Rs.1000 per month at graduate level for the first three years of college and university and student will be given Rs.2000 per month at post-graduation level.

Students enrolled in professional courses will be given Rs.2000 per month in the fourth and fifth year. Students will be provided scholarship for 10 months in a year.

Under the eligibility conditions for the award of scholarship, the student has to be an Indian national and should have scored a minimum of 80 per cent marks in the AISSCE, 2009 conducted by the CBSE.

The Undergraduate /Professional /Degree courses should have been pursued as regular courses by the student, (not correspondence or distance mode) from recognised educational institutions in India and not availing of any other scholarship scheme.

The scheme is applicable to both 'general' and 'reserved' categories but the student should belong to non-creamy layer implying that the income ceiling not exceed 4.5 Lakhs per annum.

The reservation of various categories are: SC 15 per cent,ST- 7.5 per cent, OBC- 27 per cent and horizontally three per cent for physically handicapped.

Indian Institute of Management,cat site have given some information about CAT 2009 which will be a Computer-based test (CBT) from this year onwards

According to this FAQ the test will be a computer based test online test where the candidate will read the questions on a computer terminal and choose an answer by clicking on the correct option. The format of the test will remain the same except that a candidate reads question on a computer terminal and clicks on the correct answer.

The ICFAI University, Tripura announces the launch of the MBA-MSF Dual Masters program, designed to prepare men & women with the skills, knowledge and strategic perspectives essentials to the leadership of business anywhere in the world. The Dual Masters program consists of two streams: MBA and MSF.

The MBA stream is designed to provide both a portfolio of strong functional skills and the ability to apply, adapt, synthesize and integrate those skills into different management settings. The MSF stream is a unique hi-end program, which addresses the broader financial and managerial issue in the areas of Corporate Finance, International Finance, Strategic Finance and allied areas.

Through the Dual Masters Program, the students may acquire two career-oriented professional qualifications in management and finance and can also save their precious time. Instead of the normal duration of 4 years (two years for MBA and two years for MFS) the students of the Dual Masters Program may complete the same in 27 months.

For those aspiring to pursue fast-track careers in the sunrise sectors,the dual masters program is the most suited. The MBA stream prepares them for management and leadership positions whereas the MSF stream coupled with appropriate choice of electives in MBA stream,deepens their financial insights. Graduation in any discipline with 55% marks and above. CAs/CWAs/CSs are also encouraged to apply.

Program Structure
The Dual Masters program has 32 subjects with 20 subjects for MBA stream and 12 subjects for MSF stream. The students have to choose four electives in MBA stream and two electives in MSF stream. Subject wise waivers are available for MBA stream only.

In Stage–I, the MBA stream covers - Introduction to Management, Managerial Effectiveness, Organizational Behaviour, Business Economics, Marketing Management and Information Technology & Systems. The MSF stream covers – Corporate Finance, International Finance & Trade, Project Management, Investment Management, Investment Banking & Financial Services, and Financial Risk Management.

In Stage – II, the MBA stream covers Accounting for Decision Making, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Operations Management, Business Law, Management Control and Information Systems. The MSF stream covers – Strategic Financial Management, Mergers & Acquisitions, Elective subjects and Integrated Case Studies I & II.

In Stage – III, the MBA stream covers one Elective subject, Business Policy and Strategy, Business Ethics and Corporate Governance and Two Integrated Case Studies.

Study and Examinations
The dual masters program is based on self-study and examinations. The University provides a detailed study plan, courseware and E–learning Package. The courseware includes textbooks, workbooks and study guides specially designed for independent study by the students. The E-learning package includes E-Text books, E-Lectures, Lecture Notes, Quiz, Articles and Mock Tests etc., The E-Learning package is designed to help the flexible learning students study in a convenient computer-based environment. The students can study at their own place , pace and time. Learning through CD-ROM allows the students to take advantage of E-learning benefits without the need for an internet connection. It is more convenient than class room learning. Students can also avail of training classes which is optional.

The examinations are conceived, developed and administered on a rigorous and fair basis to bring out the best in the students and prepare them for challenging careers. Students will be eligible to appear for Group A examination of MBA stream and Group A examination of MSF stream six months after the date of enrollment. The examinations are conducted on Sundays in April, July, October and January in 230 Test Centers all over India.

Fast Track Scheme for Young Scientists-FAST

FAST TRACK SCHEME FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS
The Department of Science and Technology, through Fast Track Scheme for Young Scientists, provides quick research funding to young scientists below the age of 35 years (relaxable by 5 years in the case of SC/ST/OBC, woman and physically handicapped category) to undertake independent research in newly emerging and frontier areas of science and engineering. The details of the scheme are as follows:-
• OBJECTIVES
1. To provide quick research support to young scientists for pursuing exciting and innovative research ideas.
2. To provide opportunities for interaction and exchange of ideas with scientific community.
3. To involve young scientists in national S&T development process.

• ELIGIBILITY
1. The applicant should possess any of the following degrees:-
(a) Ph.D in Basic Science (Life Science, Physical Science, Chemical Science, Earth &
Atmospheric Science, Mathematical Science), Engineering/Technology,
Medicine/Surgery, Pharmacy, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Science or
equivalent.
(b) Masters degree in Engineering/Technology, Medicine/Surgery, Pharmacy,
Veterinary, Agriculture or equivalent.
2. The candidate should be less than 35 years on the date on which the application is
received in DST. However age relaxation of 5 years would be given to scientists
belonging to SC/ST/OBC, Women and Physically Handicapped category.
• FUNDING
1. The funding is provided up to a maximum of Rs.17.00 lakhs (excluding overhead
charges) for a period not exceeding three years. If the proposed objectives can be
achieved in less than three years, the budget may be reduced accordingly.
2. Funds are provided for equipments, consumables, travel and contingency. Additionally, the applicant if not holding a regular position or not drawing any other fellowship/stipend/salary, can draw a fellowship amount of Rs.20,000/- per month (all inclusive). The fellowship amount is taxable. In cases, where the applicant is holding a regular position, he/she can seek a manpower at junior level (JRF, Project Assistant, etc.)
3. “Overhead Charges” @ 20% of the project cost will be provided to the implementing
institution over and above the project cost.

General Guidelines for Submission
1. The applicant should fulfill the eligibility criteria (education & age) as given under ‘Eligibility’.
2. The funding is upto a maximum of Rs.17.00 lakhs (excluding overheads) for a period not exceeding three years.
3. All care must be taken to write a good scientific proposal (A copy of the model proposal is put on the website for reference). The proposal should contain significant novelty and should lead to enrichment of scientific knowledge in the field. Routine extension of Ph.D or any other work will be discouraged. The candidates who are unemployed and drawing fellowship from the project are encouraged to choose the place of work different from the place where they have completed
their Ph.D or other degree obtained in the immediate past.
4. Projects which involve Recombinant DNA work should be examined and certified by Institutional Biosafety Committee.
5. Projects, which are clinically oriented or projects, which involve experiments with human and/or animal material, should be examined and certified by Institutional Ethics Committee.
6. All the required information should be given in the text of the proposal itself and not as annexures.
7. Incomplete application and application lacking scientific/technical details will not be considered.
8. At the time of submission of proposals, it is not necessary to get it forwarded by any Institute/Laboratory.
9. Ten (10) copies of the proposal, in the format given below, neatly typed on A-4 size paper, should be submitted to DST at any time during the year to the following address:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Young Indian scientists/technologists who fulfill the following conditions can submit application/proposal for award of BOYSCAST fellowship:
(i) Academic Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent or M.D. in Medicine or equivalent with research experience or Ph.D. in Science/ Engineering or equivalent. (ii) Age: Upto 35 years (as on 1st April, 2009). The applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC and women candidates may be allowed relaxation in the age limit upto 5 years. (iii) Employment: A regular position in a recognized
S&T institution/university/college. Applications from persons holding temporary positions such as research fellows or research associates etc. will not be considered. Candidate must be officiall y sponsored (their application to be formally forwarded) by the employer/head of the institution or agency with commitment
to depute them for research/training under BOYSCAST programme. Forwarding note merely stating that above would be considered only aft er award of fellowship will not be considered by DST. (iv) Areas of work: Area proposed by the candidate should be in line with the above mentioned chosen areas. (v) Place of work: The fellow should be accepted by a foreign academic/scientific/technologic al institution, which is internationally recognized as an outstanding institution where major work in the identified area is in progress. There should be willingness of the foreign institution to accept and extend necessary support to the candidate for the work proposed. The Professor/scientist with whom the fellow intends to work should
be a research worker of repute. The candidate should himself/herself correspond with their proposed host institution/Professor abroad for placement. Candidate is required t o produce evidence, in the form of a letter of acceptance from the overseas institution to be visited along with merits/uniqueness of that host
institute in the proposed area. If the applicant has already worked at an institute abroad for a considerable period of time, the proposal to visit the same institute/work there is not likely to be considered favorably.
(vi) Young scientists and technologists actively engaged in research and having established credibility in the proposed area of work will be preferr ed. (vii) The institute to which the candidate belongs, should have either already initiated major research activities in the chosen area or should have immediate plans to
initiate such programmes, based on the expertise of the individual and proposed trai ning abroad. (viii)Candidates who have earlier availed of the BOYSCAST fellowship will not be eligible for consideration again for this fellowship. The candidates who have availed any other overseas fellowship for a period of more than three months throu gh any Government/public funding agency during last two years will also not be considered for this fellowship. Preference is likely to be given to the applicants who don’t have any/have limited international exposure as compared to the applicants who have adequate international exposure during recent past, if they are otherwise suitable.
GUIDELINES GOVERNING THE PROGRAMME: (i). The individual availing this fellowship would be called a BOYSCAST FELLOW. (ii). The fellow will be entitled to the following: (a) Fellowship amount of US $ 3000 (or equivalent in other foreign currency) per month for the period of stay (maximum duration being twelve months) at the host institute abroad. The institution to which the candidate belongs would be responsible for necessar y foreign exchange arrangements. (b). Cost of air passage in
economy class by Air India from the place of working in India to the place of the overseas host institute and back by shortest route. The fellow may, however, travel by airlines other than Air In dia, if the fare offered by the other airlines is competitive/cheaper as compared to Air India. (c) One time contingency
grant of Rs.15,000/- if the fellowship duration is upto six months and Rs.20,000/ - if the fellowship duration is more than six months. (d). Fellow will also be permitted to travel within host country to attend conferences or visit other institutes of interest with the approval of the Guide at the host institute and as per DST rules. The Fellow will be entitled to a grant of US $ 600 (or equivalent in other foreign currency) for fellowship duration upto six months and US $ 1200 (or equivalent in other foreign currency) for fellowship duration beyond six months for this purpose. (iii). Rules governing payment of salary, leave, medical, gratuity, GPF and pension etc. of the Organisation/Institution/University to which the fellow belongs would continue to be applicable. No liability on any of these accounts will be borne by DST. (iv). The candidate selected for the award of the BOYSCAST fellowship should preferably commence their research/training before the end of the financial year in which the award is given. Failure to do so would render the fellow
forfeit the award. The decision of DST on all these matters would be final. (v). Visa arrange ments are to be made by the candidate. (vi). The BOYSCAST fellow will not accept fellowship/financial assistance from any other source at the host institute abroad during the period of fellowship.
PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATION: Application for the award of BOYSCAST fellowship should be
sent in the formats given below. The matter should be neatly typed as per the formats (and not as annexures) and should not exceed 15 to 20 typed pages. Seven copies of the application (one in original and six copies) are required to be submitted. The application is required to be forwarded through the head of the
institute where the applicant is employed. The application should contain (a) A recent letter of acceptance from foreign institution to be visited by the candidate spe cifically mentioning the BOYSCAST fellowship, in original with the original copy of the application. The other six copies of the application should contain
photocopy of this letter. (b) Endorsement in original from head of the parent institution/organizati on on letter head as per the prescribed format No. (2) with the original copy of the application. The other six copies of the application should contain photocopy of this endorsement. (c) In case of SC/ST/OBC candidates, an attested copy of the certificate indicating the category to which the candidate belongs. A self addressed stamped postcard may accompany the application for acknowledgement.
Application complete in all respects should reach DST positively by 31st July, 2009.
