distance learning courses in Law by NLSIU Bangalore
The National Law School of India University, Bangalore provides for academic programmes, in distance education mode, to enable people who are interested in learning more and equipping themselves with legal knowledge, with an urge to meet the new challenges. There is no age limit, it is open for any graduate of any recognized University. Those who have appeared for the final year degree exam and are awaiting results, may also apply. The courses available are:
• A two year Master of Business Laws (P.G. Degree)
• One year P.G. Diploma in Human Rights Law
• One year P.G. Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics
• One year P.G. Diploma in Environmental Law
• One year P.G. Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights Law
The courses start in July every year. Admissions are completed by 30 June, every year. However at the discretion of the Director, and for justifiable reasons, candidates may be admitted upto 31 st August on payment of late fee of Rs.500/-.
The Distance Education Committee of the National Law School of India University, Bangalore comprises of the Director, the Registrar, some of the Senior Faculty members, Course Co-ordinators and Co-ordinator of Distance Education Department. The Council makes policy decisions from time to time, directs structuring of new courses or restructuring of existing courses, monitors the administrative functioning and issues all necessary directions for the smooth functioning of the courses.

The issue of form and Handbook will commence from after May 10th, every year. Cost of the form and Handbook is Rs.1000/-. The filled-in form may be submitted on or before 30th June without late fee and 31st August with late fee of Rs.500.
1. MASTER OF BUSINESS LAWS (M.B.L.)
First Year
• Contract Law
• Banking Law
• Corporate Law
• Industrial Relations Law

Second Year
• Investment Laws
• Insurance Laws
• Law relating to Foreign Trade
• Intellectual Property Law
• Taxation of Corporations
Each theory paper carries 50 marks. The candidate has to submit a project for each paper, which carries 20 marks, viva-voce based on the Project, carries 10 marks and Module Assignment carry 20 marks.
Annual examination would be held in June and the supplementary in January / February, every year. To evaluate the performance, grading system is followed. Minimum B grade (50% marks) is required to be obtained. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) should be an aggregate of 3.00 to complete the course.
2. POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN HUMAN RIGHTS LAW (PGDHRL)
Paper I - Human Rights, Rule of Law and Constitutional Governance
Paper II - International Bill of Rights and Enforcement - Civil and Political Rights
Paper III - International Bill of Rights and Enforcement: Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
Paper IV - Human Rights, Legal Aid and Access to Justice
Paper V - One Dissertation is to be written on a chosen topic
Each paper will carry 80 marks and 20 marks for writing 4 assignments. Written part of the Dissertation carries 80 marks and viva-voce 20 marks. To pass in each Paper / Project / Dissertation 50% marks are required to be obtained.
Annual Examination is held in June and Supplementary in January.
3. POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL LAW AND ETHICS (PGDMLE)
Paper I - Law and Health: An Introduction to Systems
Paper II - Health Law and Ethics - Constitutional and Legal Perspective
Paper III - Medical Professional, Patient and the Law
Paper IV - Professional Accountability and Patient's Rights
Paper V - One Dissertation is to be written on a chosen topic.
Each Paper will carry 80 marks and for writing 4 assignments 20 marks. Written part of the dissertation will carry 80 marks and viva-voce 20 marks. To pass in each Paper / Project / Dissertation 50% marks are required to be obtained.
Annual exam is held in June and Supplementary in January, every year.
4. POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW (PGDEL)
Paper I - Environmental Policy, Law and Development
Paper II - Pollution Control and Waste Management Laws
Paper III - Biodiversity related Laws
Paper IV - International Environmental Law
Paper V - One Dissertation is to be written on a chosen topic.
Written part of Dissertation will carry 80 marks and the viva-voce 20 marks. Each Paper will carry 80 marks and for 4 Assignments 20 marks. To pass in each Paper / Project / Dissertation 50% marks are required to be obtained.

5. POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS LAW (PGDIPRL)
Paper I - Basic Principles and Acquisition of IPRs
Paper II - Ownership and Enforcement of IPRs
Paper III - Information Technology related IPRs
Paper IV - Biotechnology and IPRs
Paper V - One Dissertation is to be written on a chosen topic.
Written part of the Dissertation will carry 80 marks and for writing 4 Assignments 20 marks. To pass in each Paper / Project / Dissertation 50% marks are required to be obtained. Annual Examination is held in June and Supplementary in January, every year.
