NEST 2011 Application Process

National Entrance Screening Test (NEST-2011) is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and UM-DAE CBS have been started by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007. Their mandate is to train scientific manpower for carrying out cutting edge scientific research and for providing input to scientific programmes of Department of Atomic Energy and other applied science institutions in the country. The test is conducted in 34 centers across India.

Programmes in NISER through NEST 2011

NISER offers a 5 year integrated M.Sc. programme in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences. Degrees at NISER will be awarded by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be University within the Department of Atomic Energy.
There are 60 seats this year, including reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC candidates and persons with disability (PD) as per Government norms. Further details are available on the NISER website (http://niser.ac.in).
Programmes in UM DAE CBS- Admission through NEST 2011

The Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has an autonomous Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences in Mumbai. CBS offers a 5 year integrated M.Sc. programme in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences. The degrees at CBS are awarded by the 150-year old University of Mumbai.
Tentatively, there are 35 seats this year with reservations as per government norms, including reservation for persons with disability (PD). Further details including maximum number of seats in any stream and allotment procedure are on the CBS website (http://www.cbs.ac.in).
Eligibility criteria for appearing NEST

Students securing at least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India are eligible to apply. For Scheduled Cast (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%. Students who have passed the Class XII qualifying examination in 2009 or 2010 or are appearing in 2011 are eligible to apply. (Where only Letter grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)

• Online submission of application starts : January 01, 2011
• Last date for receiving request of application form (hard copy) : February 21, 2011
• Last date for receipt of completed application form with DD (online/postal) : March 07, 2011
• Online applications freeze : March 07, 2011
• Dispatch of offline admit cards begins : March 20, 2011
• Download of online admit cards begins : March 20, 2011
• Date of examination : May 29, 2011 (Sunday), 2:00 - 5:00 pm
• Announcement of results on NEST website : June 20, 2011


How to apply for NEST 2011 (Applications can be submitted in either of the following ways: 1 or 2)


1. Online form submission is the most convenient and preferred way. Follow these steps to go for it.
a. Register yourself before you login. It is assumed that you already have an e-mail ID.
b. Confirm your registration from a mail sent to you just after registration.
c. Login in the NEST homepage with your mail-id and password.
d. Fill the form and save it or, modify an already saved form.
e. Upload passport photo and scanned signature.
f. Transfer fees or Send DD (in favour of "NEST-2011", payable at Bhubaneswar). Quote Appl.No. in both cases.


2. A letter of request can be sent to get the printed form by post. This form will have to be sent back along with DD after filling it properly. Please send a self-addressed envelop of size 30cm X 22cm.
