IGNOU Tourism Courses Admissions 2012
IGNOU offers Master of Arts in Tourism Management (MTM), Bachelor’s in Tourism Studies (BTS) and Certificate in Tourism Studies (CTS) for not only entrepreneurs but also extends to those who are already employed, directly or indirectly in any branch of the industry.
The Master’s level programme is meant for those who intend to take managerial jobs or make a career in tourism industry (travel agency, hotel, tour operator, etc.), or providing tourism related services through their own enterprise or planning to become an entrepreneur, are associated with tourism awareness programmes and research or would like to update their knowledge and skills in the field of tourism.
Students with Bachelors in Tourism, B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration, Bachelors in Hotel Management (approved by AICTE) and those who have completed their graduation in any field with diploma in tourism recognized in the university set-up or by AICTE are eligible to apply for the course.
Though students with a bachelor’s degree in any field are also eligible to apply but they will have to pass four additional tourism foundation courses during their period of study. The programme is of minimum two years duration and can be completed in maximum four years.
IGNOU also offers Diploma in Tourism Studies (DTS) consisting of 36 credits (each credit equals 30 hours of study). The course content for the diploma programme includes- foundation course in tourism, tourism development: products, operations and case studies and management in tourism along with project work.
Candidates having completed Bachelors Preparatory Programme (BPP) from the university or with 10+2 or its equivalent are eligible to apply for the diploma programme.
Student handbook and prospectus is available in all the regional centers of the university as well as in the university’s headquarters which can be purchased for Rs.100 and submitted along with the requisite fee in the form of a demand draft to the concerned regional centre.
The last date to submit the application form for both the programmes is July 30, 2012 (with late fee of Rs.200 up to August 14, 2012).
