IIT Roorkee invited applications for admission to Ph.D. programmes for the Spring Semester of the Session 2012-13. Ph.D Programmes are available in all departments/centres including Institute Instrumentation Centre, Centre of Excellence in Transportation Systems, Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation and Management and Centre of Excellence in Nanotechnology.

Eligibility :
Masters degree in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/ Urban & Rural Planning / Pharmacy / Computer Applications of 3 years duration after graduation, in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded.

Eligibility

Master’s degree in any discipline, with at lease 55 per cent marks or equivalent grade point average.

Financial Support

FPM students will be given Rs.20,000 per month in the first two year and Rs.24,000 per month in the last two year of the programme. In addition to this, they will be entitled to have an annual contingency grant of Rs.25,000, Computer Grant of Rs.50,000, and a grant of Rs.1,50,000 for attending International/National conferences.

The IIMB PGPPM is a unique opportunity for participants from the private and government sectors who aspire to leadership positions in the area of public policy management. The duration of the test has been extended to three hours instead of of earlier 2.20 hours and a section on general awareness has also been added. the exam will remain in the pen and paper format and will be conducted in a single day.

The exam will have two parts, the first part will have multiple-choice question on three sections-data interpretation and quantitative ability,analytical reasoning and decision making,verbal ability and logical reasoning. The time allotted for this section is 2:20 hours. The second part will have easy writing and general awareness and time allotted for this is 40 minutes.

National Student Challenge Transform Urban India 2012

The National Student Challenge is an all India annual challenge that aims to engage the youth of the nation in challenges facing India’s urbanisation. The first cycle was held in 2011. Teams from all over the country participated to share their proposals. Out of 170 teams that participated, 21 teams were shortlisted to present their intervention proposals and be a part of the India Urban Conference, the largest urban conference held in India at the Mysore Campus of Infosys Technologies. The top three teams were awarded a grant of INR 3,00,000 each along with other cash prizes to implement their solutions. These teams received technical support and mentorship from IIHS towards implementing their solutions. Mentors and judges of the National Student Challenge are experts in the fields of urbanisation, communication and entrepreneurship. Mentors for this year’s event include Meenu Handa, V. Ravichandar, Vasudev Avadhani, Dilip Mehta, Dr. S. Rajagopalan, Debanand Chatterjee, Prof. Amalendu Jyotishi, and A. Suryanarayanan.

he Transform Urban India National Student Challenge 2012 is a part of the Indian Institute for Human Settlements’ overall efforts to elicit young India’s views on urbanisation challenges and support them in transforming the urban landscape in India. National Student Challenge is supported by Rockefeller Foundation.

It includes two components - the student challenge and an academic conclave.

The Student Challenge encourages students to design innovative solutions to pressing urban challenges through the formation of interdisciplinary teams and the submission of a proposal which includes a Problem Statement and a Solution Statement.

The Academic Conclave invites young researchers to share their research work in the field of urbanisation. This year's theme for the Academic Conclave is "Basic Services in Urban Areas". The winning teams get an implementation grant of INR 3 lakhs each in the National Student Challenge in addition to other awards and a chance to interact with leading urban experts.

IIHS would like to invite students from all disciplines to participate in the National Student Challenge 2012. Students pursuing graduation, post-graduation and doctoral studies are eligible to participate in the Student Challenge, whereas the Academic Conclave is open to students pursuing bachelor's and masters' degree.

Participation in the National Student Challenge 2012 would offer opportunities for students to be mentored by experts, to present their solutions to a distinguished panel at a national-level event in November 2012 at Bangalore and to obtain an opportunity to bring their solutions to life.

Last date for registration of teams for the National Student Challenge is 15th September 2012 and last date for submission of proposals is 5th October 2012. The last date for submission of abstracts for the Academic Conclave is 1st October 2012.
