IIT -MASTER IN MEDICAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY : 2008 admissions

After the completion of this course, the medical professionals become well equipped to fill the void that separates medical sciences from advanced technology. With the two fields merging rapidly there is a need for people who are qualified in both the disciplines and well versed with the upcoming thrust areas for research.
The students with MMST degree are the ideal candidates to provide the necessary technical inputs to various hospitals, medical industries and research institutes who are working on innovative techniques in medicine.
The students can become extremely competent to take up challenging Techno-medical management tasks.
They can also be effectively employed for identification of thrust areas of research and help an organisation in deciding which kind of research would be relevant and would reap benefits.
Moreover they will be able to work on finer technical details of an innovative idea which the organisation may be contemplating to work upon
The innovative concept of an intensive project spanning a duration of one year in the final year provides an opportunity to investigate on a specific problem in a particular area of medical science and technology.
The students are successfully employed in organisation like GE Healthcare, Philips Medical Systems etc, renowned hospitals throughout the globe.
Many of them opt to go abroad and pursue further research in their domains of interest and bring laurels back to the country.

Eligibility for MMST

The eligibility criterion for admission to MMST students is MBBS Degree (recognised by Medical Council of India) with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate and having studied mathematics at +2 level (even as additional subject) or from any recognized Open University. Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and persons with disability as per Govt. of India rules.

Mode of Selection

MMST students - The selection of is strictly based on the performance of the candidates in an objective type of written test of 2 hours duration. The candidate needs to answer 120 questions of one mark each (no negative marking) out of which 75 questions are from MBBS syllabi. The remaining questions are equally distributed to cover the syllabi of +2 level Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, Candidates qualifying in the admission test will be called for counseling at IIT Kharagpur before final selection.

Application Procedure

MMST 2008 application is to be submitted only by an ONLINE process (internet based) by accessing the website http://gate/iitkgp.ac.in/mmst from 4 February 2008 till 29 February 2008. The candidate should first pay the Application Fee by obtaining a Demand Draft drawn in favour of IIT Kharagpur on any nationalised bank payable at Kharagpur, West Bengal. The draft details are require while filling up the ONLINE application form after successful submission of data. The printed form, with candidate's signature and photograph pasted at appropriate place, and the Demand Draft must be sent by speed post so as to reach by 7 March 2008 to The Chairman, GATE, IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur - 721302.

Following additional documents should be mailed along with the printed Application Form :

1. Attested copy of SC/ST/PD certificate (if applicable)
2. Attested copy of MBBS Degree (recognized by MCI) with mark sheet as a proof of obtaining a minimum of 55% marks in aggreagate.
3. Attested copy of proof of having studies Mathematics at +2 level (even as an additional subject)

Application Fees
Rs. 1000/- for Genral Category and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST Category.

Admit Card
Admit Card is issued only to eligible candidates who submit the application form completed in all respects before the closing date. It should normally reach the candidates by 10.04.2008. If it is not received by this date, the Chairman GATE IIT Kharagpur should be contacted for necessary action. The admit card should be preserved by the candidate even after the examination for the purpose of counseling.

Admission Test
The admission test is of objective type to identify the aptitude of the candidates for a program like MMST. The test is of two hours duration and held between 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon on Sunday, 20 April 2008. The candidate needs to answer 120 questions of one mark each (no negative marking) out of which 75 questions are assigned to the typical MBBS syllabi. The remaining questions are equally distributed to cover the syllabi of +2 level Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.

Counseling
On the basis of performance in the written test a list of qualified candidates will be prepared and these candidates are called for counseling at IIT Kharagpur on 21 June 2008 (tentatively). before final selection is made for admission.

thanks for your invaluable post.i would like to know about other courses like mmst.i mean other courses which combine medicine and technology.is iit khpr the only iit which offers pg courses for doctors.i am a final year MBBS student and would like to pursue a course like mmst rather than a usual postgradutate course for MBBS guys.

sir, i want to know about the numbr of seats for general candidates...and what is the minimum cutoff marks for it...can i get previous year ques paper...if possible kindly tell...i m really worried
