UPSC Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination 2008

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2008 commencing from November 22, 2008 for recruitment to Grade IV of the Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service. The examination will be held at various centres across the country.

Salient features of the examination are published below for general information of candidates. For details regarding Eligibility Conditions, the Syllabus and Scheme of the examination, Centres of examination, Guidelines for filling up application form etc aspirants must consult the Detailed Notice of the examination published in the Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar dated June 21, 2008.

Conditions of Eligibility
Age Limit
Candidates must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on January 1, 2008.

The upper age limit is relaxable for Scheduled Castes/ Schedule Tribes/ Other Backward Classes/ Physically Handicapped and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the Notice.

Educational Qualifications
A candidate for the Indian Economic Service must have obtained a Post-Graduate degree in Economics/ Applied Economics/ Business Economics/ Econometrics and a candidate for the Indian Statistical Service must have obtained a Post-Graduate degree in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Applied Statistics from a recognised University.

Application Form
The candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/ Post Offices (specified in Appendix-III of the Notice published in the Employment News dated 21.6.2008) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs 20/-. Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.

In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Forms from the designated HPOs/Pos, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC's "Forms Supply Monitoring Cell" over Telephone: 011-23389366 / Fax: 011-23387310.

Examination Fees
Rs 100/- (Rupees one hundred only) to be paid through a single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only. SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from payment of Fees. (OBC candidates are required to pay full fees).

Address and Last date for receipt of applications
All applications must reach the "Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110 069" either by hand or by Post/Speed Post or by Courier, on or before the July 21, 2008.

However, in respect of candidates residing abroad or in certain remote areas specified in the Notice published in the Employment News dated July 21, the last date for receipt of applications by Post/Speed Post only (not by Hand or by Courier) is July 28, 2008.

In case of any guidance/ information/ clarification regarding their applications, candidature etc candidates can contact UPSC's Facilitation Counter near Gate 'C' of its campus in person or over Telephone: 011-23385271 on working days between 10 am and 5 pm.
